Thanks for the PICS and information... but I am sad to hear about the accident.
Did she go to jail? I would be biased, but I will say it anyway I hope not, but
drunk driving... depressing.
I also am wondering if she is married, because I saw her date of birth, she
doesn't have to be married but I hope she at least has someone she can turn to
especially facing something as scary as jail. I hope no one was injured or
killed in her accident.

CCH is a little country, a little rock and roll!
^_^
I need sleep. Let this be a lesson to you all, don't ork third shift as an
insomniac... life becomes very difficult!
Seriously though CCH is very slimy and people seem to "look away" until he
slimes them! Then its not funny anymore! It was fitting he was sitting on the
throne laughing like a jackass, but at least he didn't have terrorist playing
cards! Least not yet... And we can never forget that although it would have
been a good place to stop OH NO, NO NO NO we have to see just HOW he mucks it
all up first and THEN it will end, but certainly not before... That would be too
humane, no no no we must see CCH for the sneaky rat bastard that he is in
ALLLLLL his DRUNKEN WITH POWER GLORY!
How bout a gentlemen's bet that he kills Lotus or Jaunson? One of these two
ladies is going down and not in a good way either! My instincts tell me that one
of them is about to get killed, but because CCH is so slimy I don't know which
one. I am also sure that Hyang, his youngest son is going down to. He'll
probably get killed thanks to Jaunson's nasty words to Woo and then CCH will
kill Jaunson. That's IT! That's how it will play out. Woo kills Hyang and CCH
asks him who filled his mind with that idea. Woo rats out Jaunson, CCH confronts
her, she pulls an Aran and CCH has her executed.
-_-

I still can't get past the macrobiotic part! It's too funny! and yes it sounds
like you would have had a pretty penny stashed away!
Later!

I think Ui-Bang must have gotten bumped off in episode 40 or earlier.
Episode 40, or maybe 41, was when I began watching AOW, and I don't
remember it. The first hours I watched had to do with his widow (I think!
it was very confusing at first) and her little girl being told they had to
leave court, and I remember them talking to Myung-Jong's empress about
breaking the betrothal with the Crown Prince and sailing (actually rowing)
away down a river into the sunset. Does that help?

Gosh, it seemed like last Friday's episode (in Philly), no. 153, was a
logical place for the whole series to end, with Choi sitting on the throne
of empire and having a fit of laughter. Did it seem that way to anyone
else? Choi is such a piece of fascist slime, who can empathize with him?
It's like watching the rise of Hitler, or You-know-who.

Looks like Choi Cousin got dumped, despite what the narrator said. Maybe
he'll wander back. Not that I much care.

PS: My irritating acquaintance Marlon, the pointy-chinned religious
fanatic, got personally enthused over Jesus (various sects), not to mention
the Millennium, several saints, his personal guardian angel, Zen, Hatha
Yoga, the Maharishi, the Templars, Krishna Consciousness, snake handling &
speaking in tongues, UFOs, existentialism, and probably a few others I
can't recall, long before he took up macrobiotics. He was obviously
mentally ill and my husband and I felt sorry for him, so it took us a long
time to tell him "Please don't return." Nowadays I wish I had a dollar
for every time he preached at us with those over-acted "Choi cousin" facial
expressions. I'd have a pretty good bankroll in my retirement.

Episode 50, then 51 he dies at the very end and 52 they bring his body back
to the Imperial City... I could be off by one, but anyway). At the end of
the Episode prior to Ui-Bang's death Muby finally convinces him (by the way
Muby would have made a great Advisor... if she wasn't always driven by
greed and self-interest most of the time, I think watching Muby struggle
with the fact that although Sir Yi was definitely swayed and influenced by
her and truly loved her, she couldn't always control him and I think that
was what made her love him... as much as a woman like her is capable of,
ironically I could relate to Muby as a character, because I could only
imagine her life before the palace and then being brought in and then the
palace intrigues and back and fourths, she was EXTREMELY distrustful of
EVERYTHING, but unfortunately we never really see what turned her into who
she was... or are they trying to show us
> with Jaunson? Jaunson was a peasant girl as well (or was she a
slave-peasant girl? as if that helps right) brought in by Choi Choong-Hoi
(that sneaky BASTARD! He's NO WARRIOR!) for the sole purpose of tempting
the Archfiend. He then has Lotus teach her the art of Geisha (while CCH
pimps out Lotus to the Archfiend... PS; does Choi Choong-Hoi have ANY
limits at ALL... his mind seems to be in constant Psychoanalysis of
everything around him and then how can he USE a person to get what he
wants, he knew Lotus would do anything to help him including using herself
and he HAMS IT UP, but lets her sleep with Ui-Min, but if you pay attention
to when she first talks to him of her "idea" he actually TELLS HER in so
many words; Sure we can run with the "take my wife ploy", but you're gonna
fall in love with the guy cause I heard he's quite the stud...)
> -_-
> Any-way! He uses Jaunson and she loves him to pieces because he took her
away from peasant life. When Ui-Min doesn't fall for the worlds most
beautiful Alien Vs Predator (what is up with her forehead? Seriously...
tell me she doesn't look like Alien with that forehead, mind you she's cute
in a deranged sort of way... guess I'm back ta needin Jesus, anyway) CCH
then says here; "Go serve his deranged and abusive middle son" which I'm
sure that poster boy for restraining orders was a hot time on the town. She
then watches him die at her feet
> and after all of this she and CCH had a deal that he wouldn't leave her
out in the cold (failed to mention the fact that she was competing with her
adopted mother Lotus... for CCH!
> Two words; EWWWW NASTY!) And after ALLLLLLLL OF THIS... he leaves her out
in the cold, but she did get a great Geisha House for a little bit. If this
was what Muby had to go through in her life, queue Dr.Phil cause I could
see why she was drunk with womanly POWER!)
> Ok, now that I have gone all the way around God's Green Earth back to
our feature presentation. When Muby finally convinces Ui-Bang to overthrow
Myong Jung she tries to get him to stay the night with her and he refuses
and leaves (big mistake, let this be a lesson to all you men, if you're
woman offers... you should NEVER refuse). In the middle of the night Muby
has a dream of Sir Yi on a horse and he is dead. She tells Olan to go to
him first thing in the morning and bring him back to her. Olan goes by his
estate (I can't explain why she was told first thing in the morning except
that the show producers had to come up with a means to get Ui-Bang outta
there, because MOST sane people would've went to him THAT NIGHT)... either
way she goes to his estate and is told he left already and went to the
military training grounds.
> Queue cowardly Kyun's sneak attack! Ui-Bang escapes on his horse, but
is mortally wounded. He eventually falls off and is surrounded by Kyun's
Cowards, but then Olan appears and chases them off! She helps Ui-Bang to a
cave and nearly gets choked out by him when he wakes up delusional. He
eventually tells her to go and get General Cho (ohhh Cho General, I was
never more disappointed by his betrayal, but he did betray Che Won so I
should've saw it coming). At this point she leaves Ui-Bang in the cave and
a huge argument breaks out around me because people are screaming at my TV
for her to stay with Ui-Bang till he can move.
> Olan gets captured and eventually kills herself after having her knees
and legs crushed by Cowardly Kyun and his mad, mad Monk. Ui-Bang leaves the
cave and comes across the John Kerry of Korea and the rest is history. I
would like to point out that when the AOW starts the initial warriors are
powerful, skilled and very, very good at their job. By Kyung Dae-Sung's era
they are a step down and by the Archfiend era they are holding discussions
about state affairs... in a Geisha HOUSE! Meanwhile the warriors themselves
are no more than an unruly mob as witnessed when CCH attacks Ui-Min and
they lose a huge chunk of CCH's personal army to a still dangerous but much
older Ui-Min, Brue and General Choi.
> I like the subtle way that they showed how power and influence slowly
reduced the warriors skills and judgment... So now I'm off to the Geisha
House to discuss VERY IMPORTANT state affairs with VERY THIN WALLS to be
heard through!

and when he saw her appear on AOW told me that she had a similar character
in another K-Drama and he told me about it, but I didn't see first hand. I
have seen Yellow Roses or is it Yellow Handkerchief, I never get the name
right, but a ton of the AOW actors appear on that one without all of the
makeup and costumes and I really enjoy trying to ID them without it. Ui-Min
actor Lee Duk-Hwa is a reknown artist on that one... he was also cheating
on his wife but that that's another story.
> (Queue clearing of the throat and looking around aimlessly!)
> You are absolutely correct that Madam Yim (poor clueless lady)
certainly got Ui-Bang's attention. Hey did you notice that with both Madam
Yim and with Muby, Ui-Bang basically had two women that he could only be
seen with in public at certain times or circumstances? Muby was in her
villa at Kwang-Hwa and Yim spent most of her time in the guesthouse or
sneaking around with Kyun, but neither woman except the time Ui-Bang was
called to the palace by Empress Dowager with Madam Yim, Ui-Bang was rarely
seen with these women in public (Muby had mitagating circumstances).
> I think the only thing that stopped Muby, ironically was Muby. She had
9 children but everyone knew that not all 9 were Ui-Jong's (this was
discussed early on by the Empress Dowager and Empress Dowager Sun as well
as by Che Won and Yi Ko when they finally decided to kill her children and
a few others characters brought it up as well when they were all trying to
"Race for the Emperor's Seal" that she had taken). Muby was told by the
Head Monk at Keguk Temple (I believe it was Keguk) that she had everything
and that people were going to get hurt if she kept going and she ignored
him. Repeatedly! Even Ui-Bang told her that he would take care of her
forever and to just leave well enough alone, but she just couldn't...
> Sorry to say my friends and I had a rather heated debate about "What
would they do if they were involved with a woman like Muby?" Far as I'm
concerned, unfortunately, as a man you are gonna get burned eventually,
because she really doesn't seem to know how to do things for anyone but
herself anymore. Too much energy would be spent in tug-of-wars with her
while important things go unattended. I think this was one reason why Madam
Yim was able to pull Ui-Bang away from Muby, because even Ui-Bang could
tell that his original intent had changed dramatically and he even argued
with Muby a number of times about some of the "advice" she had given him
leading to some of his problems.
> Yim may have been clueless, but she had a better feel of being genuine
and sincere while Muby often got angry at herself whenever she actually
felt any kind of renuine emotions for Ui-Bang. I know I have a pretty keen
eye for detail at times but the actress (whose name escapes me) who played
Muby, did a very good job at portraying Muby's inner conflicts without any
dialogue. I remember one argument she had with Ui-Bang when she tries to
convince him to kill Ui-Min and he says no, then she eventually jumps to
the Madam Yim affair and when Ui-Bang says "I don't wanna hear anymore" and
leaves Muby standing there, she looked on the verge of tears by his lack of
trust in her, but she never lets out not one tear until he gets killed...
> And then in typical fashion she pilfers his body from Kyun, DIMES OUT
THE Archfiend, the entire Poison Bottle Plot (which she did WITHOUT Sir
Yi's knowledge) and then says not one WORD to his wife that "I have his
body let US, not ME, let US give him his last rites!"
> She was just too far gone by the time Ui-Bang reached her and she
poisoned him, which is a shame for both of them.
> If I feel sorry for three women on the AOW its the Princess So-An (I
think her name was) who loved Kyung Dae-Sung and never got anything but
misery for it. Olan who never even got the chance to even experience love
or a man for that matter (she seemed more loyal to Ui-Bang than Muby at
times and did you see Muby's expressions whenever Olan would say "We have
to tell Sir Yi." ouch) and lastly Ui-Min's First Madam, second wife
Bu-Young. She was very inspirational to Ui-Min and I think that losing her
and letting his middle and youngest son's , along with his wife, constantly
bully her was a damn disgrace.
> I would have killed those two sons and begged forgiveness from Buddha,
then I would have banished the first wife to some island for constantly
chopping me at the kneecaps and never telling the truth whenever it
mattered!
> -_- Let that be a lesson to all you women... Don't be like Ui-Min's
first wife, no man will stay with you no matter how good the sex is.
> As for Muby and CCH she would have destroyed CCH because he was and
still is at the heart of it all a sneaky cowardly snake. I personally
believe that she would have destroyed him because she would refuse to share
her dresses with someone who was supposedly a man!

> Good point... the list of women... really is not too good for
rolemodeling. Madam Yim was too naive. Madam Bu-Yong was too tolerant. Aran
was just psycho cat girl. Madam Yi Ui-Min was a high class stuck up whore
who got knocked up by the Governor of Surabul who dished her off on Ui-Min
(It sounds really bad when I say it that way, she was another weird woman,
but her whole situation with Ui-Min was just ALL WRONG... nobodies going
anywhere with the shotgun wedding!)

lick of spit difference (say that 10x's fast!)

off or something or do I need to get my eyes re-evaluated) and actually
took his belly-crawlin-butt back, she gets nothing but empty words from
him. Everytime she is on the show she offers him sound advice and is
genuinely concerned about him, their family, his mother and he just... "Eh
I am Choi Chong-Hon! I must go to the Geisha house and laugh psychotically
and then LOSE EVERY FIGHT I GET INTO!"
> I have to admit I enjoy watching him because I can't wait to see when
he gets his reward!

> -_- I hope he gets killed, but ironically he's still cooler than Chung
Kyun the Eye-Twitching Lecher!
> As for the role models I think that Ui-Bangs wife was one until he
started roaming the neighborhood like the local Hound in heat. She stuck
with him through thick and thin, but he got drunk with power and another p
word and lost his mind...

you save could be your own!
> I think the AOW really shows how these warriors had good women but no
good sense and eventually they ended up failing and falling flat on there
faces. I think the real key here is that the "Good Girls" stuck with Bad
Guys too long or didn't put there foot down and say enough is enough...
Dealing with Bad Girls is tough to do but not impossible but it can be
really draining because you have to be somewhat of a "policeman" because
you know she's looking to take an inch and make a mile.
> No I think the Good Girls should have spoken up for themselves more and
compared themselves to their Evil Counterparts in front of their men... It
would have been very funny to see. I think only Ui-Bang's wife really tried
to call him on the carpet, but she just wasn't forceful enough to get right
up in his face. Even though it was a show I was disappointed with Ui-Bangs
callous disregard for a woman that rode with him for years and years and
years. I guess what was worse was whenever he would come to his senses then
Muby or Madam Yim would scurry into the picture or some matter of state
would happen and then he was whipped again.
> Lady DaeJu... I would love to know the name of the actress who
portrayed her she was very pretty and I was really convinced of how torn
she was over her loyalty to her brother and her feelings for an enemy
general. If memory serves she became a monk and ultimately Park Sulhee lost
his life in Dawn of the Empire.
> Another tragic heroine in Emperor Wang Guhn was Goongyae's Empress...
Wang Guhn lamented privately about losing her to Goongyae but never once
confessed anything directly to her. There were times when I was watching
that one where I had to say this guy was a better man than me, especially
when he let her get executed...
> -_-
> The bad part was that Wang Guhn called his 2nd wife by the Empresses
name whenever he was stressed and she knew that something was up but she
never spoke up and told him that he couldn't just leave her in the palace
for Goongyae to eventually kill, but she never went that far. I remember
when she tried to talk with Guhn about her and he flipped out and then she
went into the palace with the 1st wife and tried to sneak in a few hints to
the Empress that she knew about the fact that she and Guhn were supposed to
be together...
> It was very hard to watch something that was obviously going to end
badly, but I couldn't stand the fact that he never told her (The Empress)
that he felt bad for being forced to give her up... and then to have to
watch her die...

Subject: Action Alert: Proposed Federal Budget Cuts to Public Broadcasting
grimsd1
Send Email Send Email

To all Public Broadcasting Viewers, Members and Friends:

The future of Public Television and Radio is at stake. If you love
the unique programming brought to you through Public Television and
Radio, I urge you to read this email fully.

The Federal Government is proposing and will soon be voting on
cutting back funding to ALL Public Broadcasting. If you value quality
educational programming, independent productions, being able to gain
a balanced perspective on global issues, viewing programs that are
not influenced by any special interest groups and more – Then I
strongly urge you to take action and call your local Senators and
Representatives opposing the federal budget cuts to Public
Broadcasting. The Federal budget cuts would cripple the ability of
Public Television and Radio Stations to bring you the programs you
love so much. If you feel as strongly as we do, please forward this
email to your friends, family and colleagues and urge them to call
their Senators and Representatives as well.

Time is of the essence. Please act now!

1.Take Action!

Every American who supports public television must join together to
fight back. The political strength of local public television and
radio stations lies in the support we receive from communities across
the nation. In this time of danger, we need our supporters mobilized.

Call your Members of Congress to express your support for Public
Broadcasting – and find out where they stand on the proposed
budget.

Congress will respect your personal call much more than anything else
we can do. Public broadcasting needs you to join the fight – our
future depends upon it.

Supporters of public broadcasting are extremely disappointed that
House appropriators have proposed more than $220 million in crippling
funding cuts for public broadcasting in the new fiscal year. Proposed
funding cuts as severe as these – representing 45% of federal
financial support – are nothing less than a direct attack on the
future of public television and radio. Because of the urgent nature
of this matter, we urge you to contact your Member of Congress
directly to convey your extreme disappointment.

Make Your Feelings Clear on the Proposed 45% Funding Cuts:

· Support action to restore level funding for public broadcasting.

· Oppose the $100 million rescission of funds to the Corporation
for
Public Broadcasting.

· Oppose the elimination of the highly successful Ready To Learn
Program.

· Oppose the elimination of the highly successful PTFP program.

· Oppose the elimination of funding for the digital conversion
program – a federal mandate.

· Oppose the elimination of funding for the satellite
interconnection
program for programming distribution to local stations.

These Funding Cuts Will Severely Impact Public Television and Radio
Stations

· These funding cuts are so drastic that they will severely impact
every public television and radio station's ability to provide
educational, cultural and informational programming in local
communities and throughout the nation.

· The recommended 25% cut in Community Service Grants funding
would
result in [station] receiving $______ less than last year, plus the
loss of $______ in Ready To Learn funds for our educational outreach
programs for disadvantaged children.

· Total cuts of $_______ almost certainly would cause [station] to
cancel its Ready To Learn programs and slash local programming

It appears that this administration is lashing out at Public Radio and TV for
not airing its agenda's in a "corporate" fashion. I was wondering when they
would start taking shots at those who have not told their various stories from
"the proper point of view" (Bush's first election, the so-called Convicted
Felons List in Florida from the first election, Bush Family ties to the Bin
Laden Family, 9/11 Disclosure or Censorship and of course the "Liberation of
Iraq" while neighborhoods in our own countries are just as bad as the Insurgency
in Iraq).
One reason why I have really enjoyed Age of Warriors, Dawn of the Empire and
Emperor Wang Guhn is because here in this country their are a lot of
similarities to them but without the exact same culture, but they are very
close.
George Bush is very much like CCH.
Well I will make my calls and do everything that I can. Bush speaks of a Global
World Community, but I wonder what would happen if a National Network like NBC,
ABC or CBS aired Emperor Wang Guhn at 8 or 9pm. I wonder if mainstream society
would be interested enough to read the subtitles and enjoy it for what it is...
good entertainment with an actual purpose. I wonder how it would play out?
Either way I will send this email to everyone I know and we will do everything
we can. I must admit that the thought of a diminished PBS is very disturbing.
Especially considering that the Network news stations are now controlled by
private companies (for the most part) with their own political ties,
affiliations and agenda's...
With that kind of ominous backdrop... who needs Goongyae with what we already
have going on.

· Total cuts of $_______ almost certainly would cause [station] to
cancel its Ready To Learn programs and slash local programming
production.

Please ask your Member of Congress to commit to supporting any
amendments or other legislative remedies to provide level funding for
all public broadcasting programs.

Many points I agree with, but The Republicans have had their sights set on PBS
and the CPB in general since the 1980's. So this isn't new. NPR only receives
about 1% and PBS about 10% of their funding from the CPB. This is why they've
had to go into hyper-beg mode for years. Having pledge drives year round instead
of once/twice a year.
If they get their way PBS & NPR as well will disapear.

I'm really enjoying this series.
I'll try not to do any spoilers here for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

But just in case; read no further

This story started out with that standard K-Drama see-saw thing one day the main
characters are on top of the world the next day in they're knee deep in a pile
of smeg. Of course these events are cleverly set into cliff-hanger mode. This
stabilizes about 7 or 8 episodes in though.

Of course there's the She loves him but there's no way for them to ever connect
because of artificial barriers and of course someone else loves her, but her
heart is taken by another etc...

Emperor of the Sea is less the serious Historical Drama in the mold of AOW & WG
and more like the regular 16 - 24 ep K-dramas. It's more centered on the
plot/counterplot thing than the actual history. I'm a bit more than a third of
the way through so I'll reserve total judgement. The anachronistic rock music
with wonderfully singing guitar work is way out of place for my blood - This
bothered me also in Damo. But -- and this is important, at least we don't have
the flying people all over this story. I dislike flicks with flying people. Mind
you a little kick off the roof for momentum is ok and pushing off the tops of
trees for a bit doesn't need a complete suspension of belief; this show has no
overt flyers (well - so far. But Damo did).

That being said the plot, character development and acting is superb as well as
the great swordplay action (minus the flying people) and dramatic scenery.

I have seen 26 episodes of Emperor of the Sea. It is fantastic!

I'd rather have her as a drinking and arm wrestling buddy.

What I'm worried about is that big hair thing hanging on the front of her head
I forget what ep that appears on....
maybe she uses it to smuggle illegal goods from Shilla?

Subject: Action Alert: Proposed Federal Budget Cuts to Public Broadcasting

To all Public Broadcasting viewers, members and friends:

Please pardon the intrusion, but the future of Public Television and Radio is at
stake. If you love the unique programming brought to you through Public
Television and Radio, I urge you to read this email fully. The Federal
Government is proposing and will soon be voting on cutting back funding to ALL
Public Broadcasting. If you value quality educational programming, independent
productions, being able to gain a balanced perspective on global issues, viewing
programs that are not influenced by any special interest groups and more – Then
I strongly urge you to take action and call your local Senators and
Representatives opposing the federal budget cuts to Public Broadcasting. The
Federal budget cuts would cripple the ability of Public Television and Radio
Stations to bring you the programs you love so much. If you feel as strongly as
we do, please forward this email to your friends, family and colleagues and urge
them to call their Senators and Representatives as well.

Time is of the essence. Please act now.

1.Take Action!
Every American who supports public television must join together to fight back.
The political strength of local public television and radio stations, PBS and
NPR lies in the support we receive from communities across the nation. In this
time of danger, we need our supporters mobilized.

Call your Members of Congress to express your support for Public Broadcasting –
and find out where they stand on the proposed budget.

Congress will respect your personal call much more than anything else we can do.
Public broadcasting needs you to join the fight – our future depends upon it.

Supporters of public broadcasting are extremely disappointed that House
appropriators have proposed more than $220 million in crippling funding cuts for
public broadcasting in the new fiscal year. Proposed funding cuts as severe as
these – representing 45% of federal financial support – are nothing less than a
direct attack on the future of public television and radio. Because of the
urgent nature of this matter, we urge you to contact your Member of Congress
directly to convey your extreme disappointment.

Make Your Feelings Clear on the Proposed 45% Funding Cuts:
· Support action to restore level funding for public broadcasting.
· Oppose the $100 million rescission of funds to the Corporation for
Public Broadcasting.
· Oppose the elimination of the highly successful Ready To Learn
Program.
· Oppose the elimination of the highly successful PTFP program.
· Oppose the elimination of funding for the digital conversion program –
a federal mandate.
· Oppose the elimination of funding for the satellite interconnection
program for programming distribution to local stations.

These Funding Cuts Will Severely Impact Public Television and Radio Stations
· These funding cuts are so drastic that they will severely impact every
public television and radio station’s ability to provide educational, cultural
and informational programming in local communities and throughout the nation.
· The recommended 25% cut in Community Service Grants funding would
result in [station] receiving $______ less than last year, plus the loss of
$______ in Ready To Learn funds for our educational outreach programs for
disadvantaged children.
· Total cuts of $_______ almost certainly would cause [station] to
cancel its Ready To Learn programs and slash local programming production.

Please ask your Member of Congress to commit to supporting any amendments or
other legislative remedies to provide level funding for all public broadcasting
programs.

Suggested script for phone calls to Senators and Representatives:

Hello, my name is ______________ and I am from _______________. I am calling to
express my extreme dissatisfaction with the proposed budget cuts to Public
Broadcasting. I would like to strongly urge you to reconsider this proposition
and vote against cutting funds for Public Broadcasting. These budget cuts if
approved could mean the end of Public Broadcasting within a few years. How do
you plan on voting with regards to this issue?
(Please feel free to add any personal stories or experiences you have had with
Public Television and Radio and how it benefits Americans to have public
broadcasting available to each and every citizen)
Thank you for your time.

2. Direct Attack on Federal Funding for Public Broadcasting
House appropriators have proposed more than $220 million in crippling funding
cuts for public broadcasting in the new fiscal year. Proposed funding cuts as
severe as these – representing 45% of federal financial support – are nothing
less than a direct attack on the future of public television and radio. The
proposed cuts constitute at least malicious wounding, if not the outright
attempted murder of public broadcasting in America.
3. The Proposed Cuts
Proposed Rescission of FY 2006 CSG Funds: The most draconian cut proposed by
House appropriators is the rescission of $100 million – or 25% – of the
appropriation already made in 2004 to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
for FY 2006.
Proposed Elimination of the Ready To Learn Program: In perhaps its most punitive
move, House appropriators proposed eliminating all funding for Ready To Learn, a
successful educational program that serves tens of millions of American kids.
Ready To Learn consistently receives strong bipartisan support – even the budget
submitted by the Bush Administration recommended funding it at $23 million.
Even Deeper Funding Cuts Proposed: House appropriators continued their attack by
proposing no new funding for digital infrastructure and interconnection
programs, which combined received $79 million last year.
PTFP Under Attack: House appropriators proposed eliminating the Public
Telecommunications Facilities Program (PTFP) – a cut of another $21 million.
PTFP, which has supported public broadcasting for 40 years, plays an
indispensable role in providing matching money for infrastructure, which in turn
delivers innovative new programs and services.

For whatever it's worth, my take
on this is that the rightys know
they can't get away with a
radical defunding of CPB --
public TV and radio are too
popular. They are softening the
opposition up for what they
really want: more power for a
GOP-dominated CPB that will then
go about trasnforming PBS and
NPR into yet another cog in what
the formidable Rachel Maddow
calls "The Right Wing Scheme
Machine," iow a compliant public
broadcasting establishment
utterly at the beck and call of
corporate donors and their
political allies. Frankly, I
don't think a bush league (no
pun intended), community-
o/ned / operation like WYBE is in
any substantial danger -- but
fighting this is a good thing to
do anyway, simply because it's
just plain evil!

Tax money pays very little
for any kind of public TV
-- the real tension is
between corporate donors
and individuals in local
communities. Believe me,
your taxes aren't paying
for AOW on WYBE any more
than they're paying for
lowest common denominator
pap like Lawrence Welk and
Daniel O'Donnell on NJN
and WHYY. The GOP pressure
is about more big donor
control, defunding the very
minor federal portion of
public TV's finances is
just a trojan horse for
that goal.

>What about the liberal lies that try to pervert the minds of the youth of
america.

I'm going to take wild
guess here, Frank, feel
free to tell me if this
isn't what you mean by
"liberal lies" (as if
"conservative lies" are
somehow better?):

Stand down from read alert
-- tax money isn't paying
for "In The Life" or "In
Bed With Butch" either.
Like AOW, those programs
get air time because of
the support of individual
donors in the community.
In effect, the public
votes in what it wants to
see with their donations.
You voted for AOW, etc.,
others voted for stuff
you consider "liberal
lies" -- it's hard to
imagine a more democratic
process except that those
who can't afford to donate
don't get to vote.

>Get off the Bush bashing and talk Age of Warriors.
>
>
If you care about keeping
public TV truly public,
"Bush bashing" is the way
to go -- the guy believes
in privatization as an
inherent good, and the
closest he can hope to get
to that regarding public
TV is more corporate
influence via stacking the
CPB's management. I agree
it's borderline off-topic
for this list, but
ultimately that call
belongs to Betz, wouldn't
you agree?

Just curious Frank,
what are these liberal lies on PBS?

or are you buying into the right wing brainwashing of America?

PBS has more ombudsmen to keep the balance in programming than several networks
combined

the issue may or may not be the politics, but if some people had their way years
ago, we likely wouldn't be discussing AOW here. PBS is and has been in the cross
hairs. Keep defending the folks who want to bend you over a barrel man.

Some people want to tell you how to think. They hate PBS because they encourage
people to think. Thinking for yourself is anti-American...

sorry for the politics people, but folks who benefit from quality service should
support it, now gulp up everything they are fed.

Bob

I whole-heartedly agree!
I've been biting my tongue for some time reading the
"informed opinions" from some of posters.

While I may enjoy reading someone's opinion about a
dramatic device or their view of Korean past &
present, I DON'T enjoy reading the constant sniping
about a President I VOTED FOR AND SUPPORT 100%!!!

I am a colloege-educated, free-thinking, reformed
liberal who is tired of seeing our country go to hell
in a handbasket because the radical left doesn't
understand the concept of individual accountability
and the radical right keeps trying to shove their
version of religion down my throat on a daily basis.

Your opinion about politics has been dule noted. It's
fine for another BB, but I, for one, will not sit idly
by anymore while crap is spewed.

Get off it folks and stick to to Korean dramas, or
this group WILL disintegrate---seen it happen on too
many other BB.

LET IT GO!

Keep the politics out of this group!

Now that the battles are in full swing I am really enjoying this show, but
