Um. Might've helped if you'd given us a
location, because I came up with a slew of "Channel 44" hits. :-)
Are you in the LA area? I got
a hit on a forum dedicated to (gasp!) Wang Guhn and Dawn of the Empire.
One of the participants indicated that Channel 44 airs DoE at 2 p.m (perhaps
2:05?). on Mondays and Tuesdays. The URL to the forum is here:
Greetings!
i'm sending you this message becuase long ago, you sent an e-mail in
response to my Korean Historical Drama web page (used to be on .ripco.com,
NOW on JP.PAULUS.COM). (if you think this message spam, i'll send you the
e-mail message you sent)
Thanks for reading!
i'm sorry if i haven't responded very quickly...i've been busy with a few
things, and looking back, there have been over 60 people who have sent
e-mails!!!!
i've been busy with a few things, but have searched the net some for some
new resources. i'm listing them at the end of this message.
One thing i've noticed is that there are MANY viewers from Philadelphia (17
-- at least on the internet), with Chicago i think is second (7), and
others spread all over, such as Seattle (3), Quad Cities (3), LA & Hawaii
<Hmm..i've long had good feelings toward Philadelphians; they & Chicagoans
were the largest contingincies at the Kingdomworks/COmpassionWorks urban
youth workers conference at Phillie>
Perhaps, especially int hose areas, we can have Drama parties, where we
watch an episode or two at a restaurant or someone's house.
If someone wants to be the key coordinator of this info, let me know (and
everyone else) know!(Like creating a FAQ page) Or perhaps take on an aspect
of this dramas, again, let me know!
Some things that i've heard or seen:
> Individual show descriptions
> Photos of the show
> specific actors
> The military style portrayed in the show
> Overall historical accuracy of the shows

"Place cute tagline here"
Hello to everyone!
I discovered EWG almost a year ago on WYBE in Philly. I had a really
bad sinus headache and was up late one night waiting for the Tylenol
to kick in. I started channel surfing and tripped over EWG. I was
addicted from that point on. I had missed the first 75 episodes, so
I was overjoyed when WYBE began replaying it during the day. I rush
home from work just to watch the tape! I am also an avid fan of Dawn
of an Empire.
I never really got into So This is Love but I am thoroughly addicted
to To Be With You. You guys may already know this but the actress
who plays Moon-hee is the wife of the actor who plays Wang Guhn.
Anyway, everyone I know thinks I am nuts - to include my kids. I am
glad to find that it isn't me! I am fine - the rest of them are nuts!
I contacted WOCH-LP, Channel 28 in Chicago and, at present,
there are no plans to rerun the Emperor Wang Guhn series. Nobody
there was aware of a DVD or VHS release with subtitles yet. At least
Dawn of the Empire is on Monday and Tuesday nights at 8. It seems
that the rebroadcast times for Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons vary
a bit. Channel 28 isn't available on cable, so the reception may be
iffy depending on where you are in the Chicago area.
Maureen and John(your webpage is nice!), drop me an e-mail - I have
most of the last episodes on tape, including the complete final one.
My wife and I miss the show a lot already, but it's good to see so
much enthusiasm about it and some new members here!
In Chicago, Wang Guhn just ended.
Dawn of the Empire, which follows Wang Guhn's sons, is
on channel 28
Mondays & Tuesday, 8pm-9pm
Repeats Tuesday & Wednesday 1:30pm-2:30pm
I have a few episodes on tape (especially the last
one, with the exception of a couple of minutes of
recap---can anyone help on this???)
Also, just so you guys know, a couple of goodpages to
check out:
http://jp.paulus.com/king-kor.html
<yeah, it's my page!--shameless self-promotion>
www.koreanwiz.org
i'm just getting back into the internet...i hope to
update a few things, and hand stuff off to other
Historical Drama fanatics...

Hello -
Anyone know what channel Wang Guhn is on in Chicago? Its sort of my
last hope. We are moving from the Philadelphia area and unless WGN
out of Chicago is the correct station, I am SOL.
Hi, all,
Discovered this group when I was surfing for websites about EWG, and
had to join. I'm also from the Phildelphia area (Levittown). My
husband got me hooked. He came across it on one of his days off,
started taping it and watching it when we got home from work. My
daughter, who is majoring in International Studies (with an emphasis
on Asia) is likewise hooked.
But then, who could blame us? lol!
Just wanted to say "hi!" Will post a more coherent message in a day
or two when it isn't nearly 1 a.m.
Diane
Hi all,
I saw the entire Wang Guhn series here in Los Angeles - it took two
years and finished around March 2002. My girlfried thought I was nuts
until she started watching and then she got hooked on it. I am glad
to find other individuals who liked the series. The Dawn of the
Empire started immediatly afterwards and I have been watching that
until about two weeks ago when the local independant station changed
hands - I think it's now on channel 44 here in LA but I'm having a
hard time picking up that station. Does anybody know what happened
from the time the Emperor took the elder Lords on the hunting trip
and the following three episodes? If someone could email the info it
would be greatly appreciated.
I know it is available on Video, WYBE was offering it as a "thank you for
pledging" gift. However, they didn't say and I don't know, if it was subtitled.
It is available in Korean, a local Korean Video place has it (and the owner
didn't treat me like a nut when I asked for Wang Guhn instead of some kick
flick <g>)

Ok, here's my pitch for one of those online services. I figure, if I'm going to
shop at a particular store anyway, why not get something for it. Ebates gives
you an automatic rebate for each purchase at such places as Amazon.com,
Wal-Mart, and more.http://www.ebates.com/index.jsp?referrer=ata1anta@yahoo.com

Does anyone know if the series is on video or dvd for purchase? I
have been on the KBS web site, but could not find anything. My family
and I watch it on WYBE, Phila. We live in NJ.
I have been an avid follower for over a year and the channel that I
was watching has moved to 12 (KTLA) in Orange County. Does anybody
know what are the new days and times? Used to be Monday and Tuesday
from 9:30 to 11PM.
Thanks
Hi! I am a new member and wish to introduce myself. I have been
following Wang Guhn and Dawn of the Empire for several months in the
Phila area and have become interested in Korean culture. I am
American born, of Polish and Ukrainian descent. In subtle ways, I
find more similarity between Eastern European culture and Korean
than between Eastern and Western Europe! Korean is vaguely familiar.
My friends do not find WG interesting. Since becoming a viewer, I
have a Korean doctor and attend a Korean language Catholic Mass. This
is the most fascinating series I've ever seen. I wish American
producers would take notice. I am delighted to find this site.

Thanks for your e-mail. I've checked in the D.C. area and nothing Wang guhn or Dawn of the Empire. I'm hoping at some point they will air it. I have a freind who send me tapes of Dawn every now and then. A little disjointed since I only see about every fourth episode, but still good. I guess I'll just have towait until PBS in D.C. gets enlightened.

I"m in a Wang Guhn/Dawn ofthe Empire drought now. I'm in the military (Navy) stationed in D.C, but my family lives in Richmond (I commute home on week-ends). Unless I haven't found it there is no Wang Guhn on D.C. or Richmond cable. A friend in Hawaii has sent me a couple episodes of Dawn by the mail, but that's pretty hit or miss.
Anyway, it's been rare that I've enjoyed a show more and as a military guy having been to the U.S.Naval War College the series has a lot to teach about politics, tactics, strategy and is very entertaining. It made me read a lot about Korean history and the series is very accurate (obviously they've filled in the holes with things to be entertaining but are pretty good at caveating when they're not sure something is true.)
It's nice to see others enjoy the show. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but it is extremely compelling. I'm hoping at somepoint to have the show broadcast in an area where I'm in so I can see the episodes I missed and the new ones from Dawn of the Empire.

It's good to see my wife and I are not alone! Emperor Wang Guhn ended
its run last weekend and Age of Empire is on Monday and Tuesday
nights (#70 is on tonight). They were the only shows we never missed,
though I don't know what we'll watch on the weekends now! I
especially appreciate the level of scholarship - the shows point out
what history has recorded in relation to the storyline and on what
points historians differ in opinion and what the dramatization is
actually based on. That sort of honesty is unheard of in Hollywood.
There's not too much on the web about the show, but I did find a few
interesting pages that I added to the links section here.
I'm not interesting in groups normally, but I couldn't resist this
one!

Thankyou for the invite to join your group!!!
I have watched both shows from the start this time around & they are
great. At least now I can understand why some of the events took place
the last time instead of guessing at it.
Also I am finally glad I have someone to talk about the show with.
This is great.

Hi, Chrissy,
I'm so glad you saw my mention of this group on Korean Wiz. It's nice
to find other fans of EWG. Betsy and I have been talking about a get-
together of the fans in the area. I think it's a great idea.
I'm looking forward to hearing your favorites. I'm still catching up
on episodes myself. I came in halfway through the series the first
time it was shown, so I'm seeing all these shows for the first time.
I don't want to miss a single show!!!

Thanks so much, Betsey, for letting me know your favorites on Wang
Guhn. I've never watched a show before where I absolutely love so
many of the characters: Guhn, Sulhee (he really cracks me up!), Kyon-
hwon, the Vice Prime Minister (cool guy!), CHOI UNG (WOW!), General
Bok and Shin Seungkyum. Who are your least favorite characters?
I'm so grateful to WYBE for rerunning the show. I love having the
chance to catch all the shows I missed the first time around. It's so
interesting to see how the characters develop and how all the "sworn
brothers" came about.
Watching Dawn has been a little confusing for me because when I
started watching the show I was trying to catch up on 2 weeks of Wang
Guhn I had taped because of having surgery. Some days I watched tapes
of both shows and I kept forgetting which show I was watching. Also,
seeing some of the same characters from Guhn looking totally
different (especially Sulhee) kind of threw me. Although that
definitely won't stop me from watching every week! I still haven't
watched To Be With You yet. Isn't Choi Su Jong's real-life wife on
that show?
Please keep me posted on that fan get-together. I'm definitely
interested!

I discovered Wang Guhn back in the summer and have been totally hooked ever since. I started watching in the middle of the series and was so happy when WYBE began running the series again. I think it's one of the most entertaining, well-written, and exciting series I've ever seen.
Dawn of the Empire just started 2 weeks ago here in Philadelphia. I hope that this series is just as good as Emperor Wang Guhn. I've spent many hours online trying to get any information on the show, so I'm thrilled that I found this group!
It's great to know that there are other people out there just as enthusiastic about this show as I am!

Might as well introduce myself. I watch Wang Guhn on WYBE in the

then immediately started up again with episode 1. We don't have Dawn of
