I will disclaimer AND bump this message up a notch by saying I *never*
liked or watched American Idol......and then I saw Baby V. Oh, wow. This
woman is PHENOMENAL.

I'm a trained opera singer (yup, go ahead, read: snob). I *hate* out of
tune singing, which is all a lot of R&B wannabes do -- sing flat and whine
around the notes. UGH! I saw Vonzell's "background" bit, and thought "Here
we go, R&B whiner with no pitch control..." Was I WRONG! She is AMAZING.
Her ability to smoothly sing and move that voice without EVER going off
pitch blows my mind. I could listen to her all day long.

That said, WHERE'S A CD, BABY V??? I'm dyin' here! I want to buy a CD, badly!

Anyone know anything about an album date? If no one has signed this girl,
they're all crazy. She's a money train waiting to happen...

I hope she realizes just how amazing and special she is. I'm an "old lady"
in fandom terms (36 --- yipes!), and she is the finest pop voice I've ever
heard.

Go gettum, girl.

Well I just wanted to say that I went to the American Idol show in
columbus ohio last night , and met Vonzell backstage .  Show was
awesome and vonzel is a true sweetheart .  And she blew the top off of
the Schottstein Center last night with remake of " I have nothing "
that girl can seriously blow !!
  I wish her the best and I will certainly be looking for her cd .
Whenever that does come out ?   I will be supporting her all the way !!

Vonzell should have won or at least made it to the finals. What is
wrong with the America. Carrie!? Why would they want Carrie to win.
Vonzell is SO much better than her. I wonder if they even got along.

Local American Idol tours, performs in concert this week

Since being voted off "American Idol" in late May, Vonzell Solomon — the former Fort Myers letter carrier — hasn't had much time to rest.

The singer who wowed fans here and across the nation with her booming soulful voice knows the momentum of her third-place finish won't last forever.

So with a 41-city tour kicking off Tuesday in Sunrise and a bevy of appearances and celebrity schmoozing, Solomon is beginning to think about life after "Idol."

"Once the tour is over, I'm really going to start to focus on getting a deal," Solomon said during a phone interview between rehearsals in Los Angeles. "I'm also hoping to do some modeling and acting. I have some things happening, but I don't want to jinx myself by saying too much."

For now, though, the only thing running through Solomon's mind is the tour.

“We started full rehearsals for the tour (on June 22),” Solomon says. “It’s going real well and we’ve all been having a ball. It’s going to be a very diverse show and a real crowd-pleaser.”

For those who watch “American Idol,” Solomon seemed most comfortable singing the songs of soul divas Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston. If she’s still on that path is anyone’s guess. “I sing three songs and open the second half of the show,” Solomon says. “I’m not going to say what I’m going to sing — just that there will be some that people haven’t heard me sing before.”

That’s fine with fan Brittany Packard of Fort Myers. Packard will be attending the concert with her younger sister who recently graduated from Solomon’s alma mater, Cypress Lake High School.

“I’m up for anything she wants to sing,” says Packard, 20, who’ll be heading to Wednesday’s concert in Tampa. “She was my favorite. I loved her voice and I loved her personality.”

For those who knew Solomon before “American Idol” made her a household name, they say it’s her blinding smile and cheerful attitude that draw people to her.

One of those people is Fort Myers resident Carol Sears. Sears met Solomon through her husband Al, who worked with Solomon at the Tice Post Office.

“There’s about 12 of us from the post office going up to Tampa to see her,” said Sears, 60. “I don’t care what she sings. I just want to see her and have her know that we’re still supporting her.”

Although she’s always careful regarding what she reveals about herself and the TV show, Solomon says that performing in front of millions of people weekly for more than four months was thrilling, but draining.

“I’ve had like four or five days off since the end of the show,” she says. “I hung out with my family and friends — and I slept a lot. I was really tired.”

She hasn’t even had time to stop by and say hello to her old post office friends, Sears says.

“They’re keeping her pretty secluded,” says Sears.

Except for big public appearances.

After the “American Idol” finale, Solomon joined runner-up Bo Bice and winner Carrie Underwood at the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race where they all sang the national anthem.

Then came Solomon’s TV appearance on “Regis & Kelly.”

“That was a lot of fun,” she recalls. “I flew from Los Angeles and got to New York real late and I had to find something to wear for the next morning. It was so hectic.”

The show also featured an appearance by Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, recording artist and owner of Bad Boy Records.

“I met him at the show and he stayed around to hear me sing,” Solomon says. “He gave me some words of encouragement.”

Combs wasn’t the only one.

“I also got to meet Katie Holmes, but only for a second,” she says. “She smiled and told me I’m great.”

Over the next few weeks, Solomon also met R&B singer Mario during his rehearsals as the opening act for the upcoming final tour of Destiny’s Child.

“I can’t believe they’re breaking up,” says Solomon of her favorite act. “I think it’s a tragedy. I actually cried when I heard that, but I think they’ll get back together eventually. Maybe I’ll get to sing at their reunion.”

More than a month after “American Idol’s” finale, Solomon says she’s still surprised about all the attention she’s received.

“I really didn’t expect people to act the way they are. I was listening to a radio show in Washington, D.C., and Gabrielle Union was on talking about me and how much she loved me,” she says. “People from all over are asking me to take pictures with them, sign autographs — I even had one guy ask me to marry him in the middle of an airport. I said, ‘No, but I’ll give you an autograph.’”

She sang her whitney houston song and looked beautiful.  Kelly said that she was her favorite and thought she had the best voice.  Kelly also said that she was throwing things at the tv when she was voted off.  Vonzie got a lot of air time which was good and Regis and Kelly talked to her quite a bit.  It was nice and I was soooo glad to see her.  She said she does not have any contracts right now but is working on something.  GO BABY V  :)
