Just when it appeared as if Gabe Ruediger was the only fighter with
weight problems, Brandon Melendez appeared to have the same problem, but
ended up making weight. He must be on the Ross Pointon weight loss
program.
Speaking of Brandon Melendez, the guy must want to contribute to
attracting both gay and female fans to the show judging from his choice
of weigh-in wardrobe.
Andy Wang. I guess his new name is Andy "Wah-Wah" Wang, judging from his
crying fit after losing his fight. Yeah, I'd cry too if I embarassed
myself like he did with a fight like that. BJ is screaming, "Take him
down, Andy! Take him down!" And did he? No. He blatantly ignores his
coach's orders and tries to slug it out and loses a unanimous decision.
I guess his new favorite song is "Wah-Wah".
Kind of surprising that Brandon didn't go for the KO, since he had Andy
on his heels the whole fight.
Next episode we finally get to see Corey "This is my zone, this is my
home" Hill take on Gabe "I didn't come ready to fight as a lightweight"
Ruediger, who seems to have a bad case of Travis Lutteritis.

i've become a fan during the 3rd season, and watch it every week now. i
enjoy watching the fights, training, and the experiences in the house.
Last few seasons i noticed that some trained, wearing sauna suits. I
realize this season, most are around the same weight. I wondered if
any of you have worn the sauna suits before. I feel like i've
accomplished even more with the extra sweat i build up.
I agree with you. This fight wasn't even close to being the best.

Dana White said Episode 3 had the best fight of all 5 seasons. I
disagree. Nate looked good standing and had some good takedowns. Rob had
good takedown defense in the first round, landed a few shots, but other
than that, he gassed out the 2nd round, eventually yielding a takedown
or two before giving up his back and tapping to a rear naked choke.
Personally, I was not impressed by this fight. Here are some of the best
fights of the past 4 seasons (at least as far as I'm concerned):
Jason Von Flue vs. Jorge Gurgel--Season 2
Luke Cummo vs. Sammy Morgan--Season 2
Edwin DeWees vs. Gideon Ray--Season 4
Matt Hamill vs. Mike Nickels--Season 3
Stephan Bonnar vs. Bobby Southworth--Season 1

It would also seem that another recurring theme has occurred that has
been a constant since Season 1: Homoerotic entertainment. It started
with Lodune Sincaid(?) weighing in for his fight against Bobby
Southworth wearing leopard print speedos. It continued with Season 2
with Team Franklin showing up to a training session wearing whitey
tighties, then Season 3 found Ed Herman engaging in some bubble
wrestling with Kendall Grove, and then Season 4 found Shonie Carter
hitting the speed bag in his now-famous speedos. Now, this season has
several members of Team Penn walking around in homemade thongs asking
for hugs from Team Pulver.
Looks like Zuffa aims to please more than just the heterosexual
demographics, but also the homosexual demographics as well. Either that,
or Ron White was right when he said that he told a friend that, "We're
all gay. It's just a matter of to what extent..."

Gabe should really shut his mouth. I mean, he most likely lost a lot of
face as well as his share of credibility what with his breakdown on the
Season 5 premier episode. Badmouthing a teammate like he did on Thursday
night's episode is NOT an intelligent move. I mean, what's gonna happen
if he's called out to fight? He's gonna have to pull out a Ross Pointon
and shed X number of pounds overnight and then lose the rest in the
sauna. Otherwise, who knows what they might do to Team Penn. I mean, I
don't think they'll accept a forfeiture.
Scribbling on the walls is something little kids do. Okay, you support
the troops. Good for you. Don't we all? But scribbling "Suck It Team
Pulver" on the wall? Talk about childish. Speaking of, Team Pulver's
reaction was just that. If you're going to let someone's immature
childish scribbling affect you to the point where you want to call both
the coaches and who-knows-else in and then challenge the other team to a
fight right then and there, you really need to take a look at yourself
in the mirror and ask yourself: "Would I behave like this if the cameras
weren't on?" This reminds me of the Chris Leben-Bobby Southworth-Josh
Koscheck mess back on Season 1. Only there was no alcohol involved.
Rob, grow up. Team Pulver, you do the same. In fact, everyone, please,
GROW THE ____ UP!
I will say this: Chances are, the whole confrontation might've only
lasted a couple of minutes, but the editors did a good job of extending
it as well as Manny's tirade to a segue to the fight.
Speaking of Manny, that guy is pit bull (no offense to Andrei Arlovski).
The guy hadn't fought in 2 years? Are you kidding me? I didn't see any
rust at all!
This season is looking awfully one-sided. Almost like Seasons 1 and 3. I
seem to recall BJ saying at the last UFN that he "wouldn't do it again",
meaning coaching a bunch of up-and-coming fighters. Now I wonder what he
meant by that...hmmmmm...
[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
New season, new fighters, new weight class, same case of alpha dog
syndrome. There seemingly always has to be an alpha dog in every reality
show. Understandably so, since they always keep us guessing as to
whether or not they're hamming it up for the cameras or if they can
really back up their mouth (see Melvin Guillard. lol)
Gabe needs to pull off a Bobby Southworth and drop that 20-odd pounds as
well as the crybaby bit. Uh, Gabe, women cry about their weight, and
you're not a woman. Hit the treadmill or the sauna or risk becoming
another Eli Joslin.
"Raise your hand if you wanna be on BJ's team." Damn. Talk about putting
the guys on the spot.

I know that some of you might be dissapointed , about Rich "ace" Franklin
catching a beat down,... but i knew Anderson Silva was going to destroy him .
Anyone that follows MMA BOUTS knows that Silva is no new commer, and has an
extensive fighting background. Well versed in Muay Thai and jujitsu, Silva has
all the tools nessesary to maintain the belt for along time.
I was also very impressed by Kenny Florian. Had he been a little stronger he
would have beaten "the muscle Sheirk" . Sheirk's strength is what saved him
in that fight, Florian is oviously the more skilled fighter, but just
could'nt over come the strength of sheirk . I'm impressed with Florian because
he
showed remarkable tenacity in his ability to go 5 rounds AND inflict damage on
the stronger man , not to mention his attempts at submissions under pressure.
I really did'nt think he was that good , but he changed my mind about that.
Hats off to Kenny Florian! he ought to change his nick name to " Kenny the
flow master Florian"
[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
With Kenny losing to Sean Sherk, that makes the boys from TUF 0-2 in
title fights (Nate Quarry losing to now-former Middleweight Champ Rich
Franklin was the first). With Matt Hughes facing GSP in November,
should Hughes get past GSP, could Diego be in line for a title shot?
And has anyone heard anything about Stephan Bonnar? I haven't heard
anything since he was suspended(?) for testing positive for an
annabolic substance in his post-fight urinalysis after his loss to
Forrest.
Yeah-- head wounds bleed a lot...just the nature of the beasts. And Team No
Love-- is a No Go unless they shape up. Showing them just goofing off
really bugged me and right then and there I turned all my loyalty over to
Team Mojo. The other thing is -- there isn't any excitement with these
coaches. I miss Tito! and even Shamrock! LOL!

Edwin was really pouring out blood, but the doctors know for sure
when a cut is bad enough to stop the fight. The problem was, the cut
kept opening back up. Stitchman (the guy who's in charge of
controlling any bleeding from the fighters. You'll also see him in
boxing matches, too.) did a good job in keeping the bleeding in
check, though.

Not that I am any expect-- but it seemed to me that Eddie was the clear
winner in the first 2 rounds. It almost seemed like they opted to go to a
3rd round-- just for the blood and gruesome effects it would have! And
despite what the MD said -- I think poor Eddie must have lost a least a pint

Gideon seemed to just assume that since he managed to cut Eddie-- he could
weight it out and hope that the fight would be stopped and he'd win by
default. I was unimpressed with him-- and that entire team's attitude.

What makes this fight interesting aside from being the fight that
everyone has been clamoring for since their memorable fight back on
the first Ultimate Finale, the fight that got many a mainstream
American into watching the UFC and doubled/tripled/quadrupled business
for the MMA clothing lines like TapOut, Sinister Brand, etc.
Stephan is coming off a loss to Rashad Evans and Forrest is coming off
a loss to Tito Ortiz, a fight many feel Forrest rightfully won (myself
included, and I like Tito). But Stephan's loss really hit him hard,
while Forrest actually won by losing.

I agree-- this season is a nice break from just the newbes -- and there will
be a different intensity for these men who are trying to prove themselves in
a totally different way. I have to admit, that I miss all the clowning
around from the first season--when the two couches were a bit more fun.
