I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jon Pertwee and his "Venusian
Lullaby". That was brought up at least twice, in both Peladon episodes.
Or isn't that considered singing.
Till then - Kevin

Doesn't Jon also sing "Shine on Martian Moon" in one episode? I can't
remember which.

Personally, I think that almost every second of Tom Baker's era as the
Good Doctor was one of those 'magic' moments. A good actor delivering
good lines from the mind of good writers. But as you mention Pertwee
singing 'I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire', I thought I'd add a few
more great scenes where the Doctor hums, sings, or whistles. First in
'Inferno', Jon sings (in that quote 'lovely baritone') 'Le Donna e
mobile' while driving in Bessie. The next is the forementioned scene in
'Terror of the Autons'.
My favourite singing double-meaning scene comes from Peter's tenure.
In 'The Visitation' he hums 'London's Burning' while, well..er...London
is burning.
Now to Colin's short stay. In 'The Two Doctors' (set in Seville, Spain
for those that didn't know) The Doctor sings 'The Barber of Seville.
As you can see, look (and listen!) carefully and you can find hidden
meanings that make Doctor Who beam. What about my favourite Doctor?
Well, Tom wasn't very creative when it came to song. The only three
times in the actual series, each time he whistled the same tune.
'Colonel Bogey'. Betcha don't know which three serials those were. The
only other time Tom had ago at a tune was in The Pescatons where he
sings 'Hello Dolly.' These four, not including Tom's, occurrences
weren't the only times the Doctor has sung, but instead the only scenes
that have connections between the song itself and what's going on in the
story. If you know of any other occasions please mail me because I'm
really into details such as these.

The boring one,
--Tom Snook-

Hello everyone!

Glad to be a part of the new community....oh, now, where are my manners
(introductions, and all that sort of thing)....

My name is Tim, and I'm from Boone (so if any of you Ames, DM, or Carroll people
want to get together sometime, just drop me a line!!!)

I've been a Doctor Who fan for far too many years, as I can remember when IPBN
was carrying the half-hours of the Pertwee episodes on Wednesday afternoons once
a week (which would be somewhere around 1975 or so... long enough ago that I
actually got to see Pertwee's "The Ambassadors of Death" when a color copy still
existed!!! Of course, this also is a rather telling point as to my current age
as well!)

I've also recently discovered the fan "reconstructions" of some of the missing
Hartnell and Troughton stories, and would recommend them to anyone with an
interest in the early Doctors' adventures. I've certainly enjoyed the ones I've
acquired so far.

I look forward to all the opinions of the group, and I can tell from the
messages in the digest so far that there's some pretty nice people
here...probably good companions (and Doctors) all!

it is because I haven't gone back to look for the quote on my video.

I am looking for someone who would be willing to send or trade tapes of
the First Doctor stories. Basically, there are 2 stories that exist in
their entirety, have never been released on video and I have never seen.
They are "The Sensorites" and "The Gunfighters". If you have these
stories, and are willing to negotiate, please let me know by e-mailing
me at Stinkeye3@.... Thank you.

Favorite Doctor is Davison...for the simple fact that he didn't always
get it right....When making mistakes he (reluntantly) admited when he
was wrong...It gave me a role model as a child, that I should not give
up when things go wrong...I guess that kinda stuck with me as an
adult...favorite companion???....that would have to be Turlough, because
he is such a coniving bast***. I LOVE THAT!!!!!LOL!

Hey, I'm new here...from CR, Iowa...I like Colin for the simple fact
that he makes the fan "uncomfortable" with the Doctor, but then each
Doctor has his own seperate quirk that makes him special..
Hartnell's Crankyness. Troughton's Sillyness. Pertwee's Elegance. Tom
Baker's Oddness. Davison's Imperfection. And Sylvester's Dark
Mystism...That's why I like each of them....

I like Colin Baker better the second time around. I guess he
was just too abrupt a change from Peter Davison for me to
appreciate his portrayal of the Doctor, but I must say my
opinions change with each Doctor as I see the episodes again.

Well, here I am, late as usual. I've been watching Doctor Who for
about four years now. I live in Ames, (IA). My favourite episodes are
"The Invisible Enemy" because it was the first that I saw, "The Talons
of Weng-Chiang", and "The City of Death." As you can probably tell, my
favourite Doctor is Tom Baker. My favourite companions are Leela and
Ace because they are the "anti-companions." They didn't run around
waving their arms, screaming, tripping on rocks. I think Ace was a
better character, but Louise Jameson did a wonderful job portraying
Leela.

I want to start another conversation going by saying this. I always am
trying to convince people that Colin Baker was not a 'bad' Doctor. I
think he did a wonderful job. But look at what he had to work with!
Low budget, bad plot, few good actors, and worst of all JOHN
NATHAN-TURNER. But because it was during his period as the Doctor,
everyone blames Colin for it all. If any of you disagree with me on
this point, just put it in your next letter.

Bill- About your question about the daleks on Red Dwarf, I read
somewhere that Terry Nation, before he for he died of course, sold the
rights of the Daleks to Red Dwarf. But I never thought they'd be used
as a cameo apperance on it's tenth anniversery special!

On another note non-Who related, How 'bout those Cyclones!!!

Hello,
Well, we are off to a good start. We've heard from three states in the
first two weeks. I'm hoping for the first few montsh this list can really
start building it's numbers and awareness. I sent email to the people at
IPTV and I'm hoping that Mike Frisbee will announce us either with the Dr.
Who special this week or when they get back to regular programming next
week. For now just keep telling people so we can set up a big network.

My favorite Doctor is a tie between the third and seventh Doctors. If I
really had to choose I would say the third. That's because he was the
first one I saw and he got me involved in the series. That was 25 or so
years ago when I watched it on my 12 inch black and white TV before going
to bed. I didn't know anything about the history of the series but I
couldn't turn a way. He was also the first person who responded to my fan
mail.

The seventh Doctor is also one of my favorites. I have to admit, though,
that I am prejudice because I've met him. I went to Visions last year and
got his autograph. I took a 14 inch tall police box, that I also made
about 25 years ago, and he drew a little character of the seventh Doctor on
the door and signed it "Sylvester McCoy was here." I have a jpg of it and
if anybody wants it just drop me a line.

Did anybody else catch the Daleks on the Red Dwarf special? It was hilarious!

Bill

Hmm, being relatively new to the Whoniverse. I havent really formed
opinions of the 2nd, 5th or 6th Doctors. I would have to say that my
favorite Doctor/Companion is the 3rd Doctor and Jo. There is just
something about the Pertwee/Manning/Delgado/Courtney/Franklin/Levine era
that is just "Who" to me. Although, this probably has to do with the
fact that these are the stories currenty running on IPTV. My favorite
stories are "The Dæmons", "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" and "The Aztecs"
just to name a few. Second Favorite Doctor Companion are 7th/Ace.
"Ace, hand me some of that nitro-9 you are NOT carrying".
But, like I said, there are many, many stories I haven't seen yet.

Hi, all you "guys", as Jeff puts it (am I the only female Whovian
in this link up?)
Have talked to Jeff a lot and enjoy our "conversations" through
email. He is a cool guy! :)
My favorite Doctor is a tie with Peter Davison and Sylvester
McCoy. I would have to say my favorite companions are Sarah
Jane and Ace. Also, I don't really have a favorite story as
I can never remember the names of them. (Too old, maybe?)
Love the mail.
Keep it up all you "guys"!

Hi. I am from Milwaukee, Wi. and have enjoyed all Doctors for the
last ten years. Our pbs station does not carry dr who; they dropped it
some 6 years ago. Locally, I belong to the Milwaukee Time Lords and
while I am not in your state i do enjoy getting other peoples
perspectives. We have to connect to each oter as who fans since many
stations have gone the way Milwaukee has throughout the nation. One
positive note to astarting organization is that a club is where you
still can go to watch Dr. Who when your public service stations don't.
I enjoy the third doctor and what i have seen of the first. thank you
for starting this board up.

Well, we've all introduced ourselves, so what should we do now? How
about which doctor/story/companion is everyone's favorite? There are so
many good ones that it's difficult to say which is my favorite, but I
would have to say that Planet of Fire is one of my all-time favorites
and Peter Davison is definitely my favorite Doctor. Also, Tegan or Peri
would have to be my picks for favorite companion. How 'bout you guys?

tell you. The Northeast side of Cedar Rapids.

Hi all! I am a huge Doctor Who fan. I have been watching for probably
around 10 years. I am in Omaha, but I am originally from good ol' Fort
Dodge, IA! :-) I also collect the DW books and videos. This was a
great idea! Hope to find that lots of Who fans join!

Hi, Mike
I am from Carroll area - between Ames and Omaha. Been watching Doctor
Who for 8 years. The only other person in my area that I know of that
watches Who is my daughter and she and I usually spend Friday nights
together as a time to just "reconnect" after a long and busy week.
(She is a senior this year.)
I look forward to hearing from more of you DW fans out there and am
enjoying my penpals I have heard from so far.

Way to go, Bill!!!!! Thanks for getting things in motion around here.
You all can email me direct at
     bensonw@...
Look forward to meeting lots of new friends.
Molly Benson (alias 'Mama Bear')

Good idea! This is Bill and I decided to start this list for fellow Who
fans in Iowa and the surrounding states. So far we have two eastern Iowa
people and one Des Moine area person. I'd like to keep track of our
geographic center so if everyone can tell me where the live it would be a
great start.

Did everyone donate to IPTV?

Bill

Lots of stories I haven't seen, lots of books I haven't read :-) I just
can't get enough. A friend of mine (to whom I've just sent instructions on
how to join the list) and I get together on a pretty regular basis and view
tapes of Doctor Who. We have alot of fun and have often spoken of trying to
get more people to join us. I think this list is a fabulous idea and I'm

Okay, I joined the list.
I see there are 7 members so far, myself included. But the list doesn't seem to
be very active yet.
Let's get started shall we. Where is everyone located? I am in Hiawatha. I was
just introduced to Doctor Who about a year to a year and a half ago. Lots of
stories I haven't seen, lots of books I haven't read :-) I just can't get
enough. A friend of mine (to whom I've just sent instructions on how to join the
list) and I get together on a pretty regular basis and view tapes of Doctor Who.
We have alot of fun and have often spoken of trying to get more people to join
us. I think this list is a fabulous idea and I'm glad to be a part of it. Hope
to hear from you others soon.
