Buffy the vampire slayer is back. As a cartoon that is.
Well ok, so maybe not entirely. The animated pilot still needs some
animation, and to well you know - be bought before it can hit
airwaves.
The voice behind the slayer, Giselle Loren -- who is replacing
series star Sarah Michelle Gellar -- spoke recently with Mediasharx.
She's no stranger to the Buffyverse however, voicing the slayer in
the two video games the series spawned.
"I'm an actress," she said. "I studied(Gellar), I learned how and
where to place my voice to match hers and then I watched specific
seasons of the show to understand her mannerisms, her physicality,
her inflections. Finally, I created my version of Buffy as she seems
on the page. Joss has created an amazing world and (Gellar) has a
very specific style. I just got lucky enough to be able to do it."
The only difference she said she noticed between voicing the pilot
and voicing the video games was actually taking direction from
series creator Joss Whedon for the animated pilot.
"Working with Joss and the other producers for the pilot was
fantastic," she said. "They know this world so well, obviously, that
the direction is clean and clear. They know exactly what they want
which makes my job easy."
Loren, a self-proclaimed Buffy fan, said she is interested in seeing
how the series being animated will differ from the contraints of
reality the television series faced. But in the end, life is good
for Loren.
"I play a blonde and kick some baddies' asses while wielding pointy
objects," she said.
