I was watching Kathy Griffin's "My Life On The D-List" (Kathy appeared on the
Celebrity Apprentice finale and is a good friend of Joan Rivers) and watched how
she lobbied the Grammy people for a nomination for best comedy album. She
informs us that only two women have won a Grammy for best comedy album in the 60
year history of the show!!! I found this fact to be very disturbing even more
disturbing than Annie Duke. I know a lot of funny ladies in fact most of my role
models growing up were funny ladies (no not Babs)like Gilda Radner,Mary Tyler
Moore, Carol Burnett, Joan Rivers, Roseanne Barr, Lilly Tomlin, Jane Curtain,
Loraine Newman, and a host of others. They formed a good portion of my sense of
humor and personality. I can't believe these people couldn't find more than two
women in over sixty years who could make people laugh. It's an outrage,
seriously!!! We all should be marching the streets and demanding that this be
changed.
Ok my point is that I hope Joan records a comedy album this year and it
campaigns to get a Grammy next year. With her success on the Celebrity
Apprentice I am sure people would be receptive to the idea.
And I think the Grammys should award those women I have mentioned above lifetime
achievement awards for their comedy albums.
