Could Erin Andrews help ESPN/ABC beat TNT?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------

I pitched an idea of ESPN/ABC having an answer to Charles Barkley
that isn't Stephen A. Smith. You know that ESPN uses front office
people for their MLB and NFL coverage. ESPN uses Steve Phillips,
former General Manager of the New York Mets, and Floyd Reese, the
former Titans General Manager. I thought it would be awesome for
ESPN/ABC's NBA coverage to have the controversial Mavs owner Mark
Cuban as a part-time analyst. I think Pat Croce would say that his
tenure on the NBA on NBC was good enough. Mark Cuban would be the
perfect choice and he doesn't like TNT.

But, if that isn't good enough, you can always get the sideline
reporter that covers College Basketball and asks the best
questions............

ERIN ANDREWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on ESPN, if you can't get Cuban, then get Erin. That's your
answer to EJ, Kenny, Charles and Marv. This is a golden opportunity
and a way to pull ahead of TNT for the first time. Maybe we won't
think about the NBA on NBC that much anymore. You're making a fatal
mistake by not having Erin Andrews.

If you can get Cuban and Erin Andrews, that's even better!

BTW, I like Erin Andrews because of her popularity.

Come on ESPN, if you don't do this, it's going to be another long 8
years!

Having an analyst or a very good sideline reporter isn't going to
suddenly make ESPN/ABC any better then it is presentation and
commentary wise so what's the point? Although I will agree with you
that the NBA coverage is way too jock heavy. It's like the
culmination of Howard Cossell's "jockocracy". I don't think they
could get Cuban because his mouth would get him into more trouble
then it'd be worth but I liked Pat Croce's work when he was at NBC
and I think he'd be a very good fix. He'd give a much needed
perspective on the sport and what teams are thinking that would be
far different then the analysts and such they have right now.

BTW Lisa Salters is just as good as Andrews so no need to go looking
for a new sideline reporter.

I don't think he was touting Andrews because of her reporting skills.

Please, for the love of god, ESPN, don't move Erin Andrews from
college coverage to the unwatchable NBA. Even her presense won't make
the NBA watchable.

In a word, no. You can't compare the occasional sideline reports of
Erin Andrews to the witty banter that EJ, Charles, and Kenny have
before the game, during halftime, and for a full hour after the
second game. EA's also not good enough to salvage ESPN's coverage.
It's boring and uninspired without her, and it would be boring and
uninspired with her.

And as for the Mark Cuban idea, he's a current NBA owner. Can you
say "conflict of interest?"

I like Erin Andrews because of her popularity with fans and viewers.

I'm just trying to offer suggestions for the next 8 years because I
find it shocking that even though most fans, including me, would take
NBC over ESPN/ABC, ESPN/ABC's coverage will last 2 years longer than
NBC's.

I like Lisa Salters. What's wrong with having Salters and Andrews for
the Finals? If Stuart Scott is hosting for ESPN/ABC, he won't be
doing sideline reporting for the first time in ESPN/ABC's coverage of
the Finals. If you think about that, it's bad news because Scott has
to put up with David Stern in the Finals. The last two hosts, Mike
Tirico and Dan Patrick, had at least one on-air incident with David
Stern.

If you notice, ESPN is slowly putting away the old NBC talent. Ahmad
Rashad is only doing his Access show, Tom Tolbert is gone, Jim Gray
is gone, and Snapper Jones is gone. This is like the NFL on Fox
reducing the roles of their old CBS talent. Lets just say that Bill
Walton is ESPN/ABC's Terry Bradshaw, such a big asset and you can't
get rid of him.

For the sidelines, ESPN/ABC is using mostly females. They've used
Salters, Michele Tafoya, Stacey Dales and Heather Cox (have they used
Swin Cash?) Ric Bucher, I think, is the only male sideline reporter
they've used for real games (the Celebrity Game doesn't count if you
want to include Stuart Scott). Salters and Michele Tafoya are great,
but Craig Sager and his suit are better. You gotta get Erin Andrews
involved and I think it may happen in the future. Don't tell me you'd
rather have Colleen Dominguez?
