I thought I'd explain my vote, rather than just cast it. By the
start of third season all of the basic backstory was complete, so
the writers could vary the formula a bit and concentrate on stories
that were as much about coming-of-age and character development as
having amazing adventures and dodging evil plots. In contrast, the
fourth season started with too many cast changes and was obviously
dedicated to wrapping up the series, so even the most interesting
episodes had sort of a lame-duck feel to them. Fortunately, it never
quite reached the point where the series "jumped the shark," so even
the least inspiring episodes were enjoyable in some way (which is
more than can be said for a lot of shows ;) ).
