Hello Mr Rynad! Glad you had time to pop in again.. and there's
always cake! Although its not a special Receptacle anniversary cake
I'm afraid. And if I did get Yumi to knock one up - even though
stranger things have happened here - I think it would have come across
as very sad and too geeky..!

Interesting artwork too. Is this how you spend your evenings?!
Incidentally.. do you have a game over there, similar to Pin the Tail
On The Donkey, called Pinning for the Fyords?!

Oooo.... must have been some party.   My head still hurts.  Can't remember much about what happened, but I've got 200 photocopies of Supergirl's bum in my room!

Anyway.. just managed to finish the other nice scan for the anniversary.. another of the gorgeous Troughton covered TV Comics.   This time issue 803, with the start of the Dr Who strip 'The Exterminator'.

Have Fun!

That cover looks like it was done with art markers.

Even if one had no personal reasons for being bothered by the show, it just wasn't funny. Everyone ridiculed the concept, but really a possessed vintage auto was no more absurd than an adman married to a witch, or a reporter with a Martian housemate, or any of the other fantasy sitcoms of the '60s. It was just a case of really poor writing. It's been called the worst comedy series ever produced, though I think there is lots of competition there.
The car itself was lovely, though - a "1928 Porter", with big spoked wheels, little running boards and a gold eagle on the hood. I was very disappointed to learn that no such model ever really existed. And the Dixieland jazz theme song was jaunty and fun - the words appeared onscreen with a little bouncing ball so you could sing along!

A very BAD one.

Jerry Van Dyke - 1960 something.  Woman dies - and is reincarneted into an old car.

Her son is the only one who knows she is there.

About 14 years ago, Nickelodian, a cable station in the US ran a night of pilot shows - that was one of them.  I made the mistake of starting to watch it... unfortunately it was about three months after my mother died unexpectedly.  BIG mistake... HUGE...

"Prez" lasted only four issues, plus a guest appearance in 'Supergirl". I may still have those packed away; it was a gloriously silly comic, and must have left most readers shaking their heads, wondering if it was meant to be serious or a parody. Like the few other "counterculture- friendly" comics of the time, its hero kept speaking out on behalf of peace, yet leapt into hand-to-hand combat with superior fighting skills! (He'd been trained by his top advisor, a teenaged Native American named Eagle Free...)
Too bad he never had the chance for a crossover with Brother Power, the Geek.

That's brilliant, Geoffrey. For some reason, this made me think of a short lived DC comic book called "prez", I believe, where a teenager becomes President of the United States. Early 70s, I think, and very hippy. Probably lasted less than a year. Anyone remember this one?

Now, now, let's not start spreading those Dynamic Duo rumors again!
That cover does remind me of a "Star Trek: Voyager" comic from a few years back. At the end, Captain Janeway remarks, "I don't like to think of those two flying around the galaxy out of control." She is supposed to be referring to a pair of alien spaceships - but her hand appears to be pointing straight at Seven of Nine's cleavage!

Frobisher has only appeared in the audios twice, sadly. "The Holy Terror" was indeed the first to appear. However, "The Maltese Penguin" takes place earlier, near the beginning of his travels with the Doctor. Not that it matters much.

No one has yet mentioned "The Holy Terror", which is slightly odd, since for years it was one of the highest-rated in fan polls. Anyone with fond memories of the Frobisher years in DWM should get a kick out of Robert Jezek's performance in both this and "The Maltese Penguin".
Hmm...the publicity for "Children of Earth" mentions a Mr. Frobisher with a well-guarded secret. It couldn't be...?

Okay, a mate of mine has just heard about the Big Finish audios and wants to borrow some off me.  So, which five would you think are a good introduction to the range, given I don’t want to overload him with fanwank or give him ones in the middle of plot arcs.  I’ve got a few ideas but would be interested in knowing which people think would be a good, non confusing, introduction…

Look for a movie called "Tune in Tomorrow". Reeves, near the start of his career, had as much range in that as any average young actor. And Peter Falk is totally hilarious.

Our last Early Strip outing for a while.

Strip number 8.. a nice idea for a strip, "Time In Reverse".. where lake in the Red Dwarf III episode 'Backwards', they begin at the end of the story and work their way to the beginning.     I suppose that this story could have started as one the right way around.. but was a bit straightforward, so slapping it in reverse added a bit of zest!

Classic Comics scans by Mikky, and part three from the original comic by Michael 'Tuppy'.

http://www.savefile.com/files/2163896

Onto strip number nine, and the last strip which was originally black and white before the strip received the double centrespread colour treatment with the next story.

Lizardworld..

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9388/xxtvcomic0716receptacle.jpg

The opening dialogue on this seems a bit to obvious though..  and the story is a bit thin.. but cute monsters!

http://www.savefile.com/files/2163899

Classic Comics scans by Mikky again.. and original issue scan by me.

The next couple of nights will involve packing, so wont be posting too much.   Then Wednesday we'll be off to Japan for a month.   Havent had a holiday for a couple of years, so I'm making up for it now!  Plus Yumi's family want to see the baby, and Yumi wants to spend some time with her family and friends.

I wont be gone from here permanently though as I will have internet access while we're in Tokyo, but once on the island we'll have to visit friends to be able to sign on.

Have Fun (I will be!)

Thanks for uploading all these strips. It's been fun reading them. Even if the
astronauts in Moon Landing were a bit thick!

The newest two I'm just about to read.

Enjoy your holiday!

Frobisher was introduced in The Shape Shifter, the first Colin Baker strip. He
stays on through all of Colin's strips (with one exception, I think?), plus the
first McCoy story, A Cold Day in Hell. After that, there's just the
aforementioned cameos in Where Nobody Knows Your Name, The Holy Terror and The
Maltese Penguin.

Not for the first few years, anyway. The final season was under someone else's supervision, and was actually quite good. Except for the awful series "finale", which was done  by the idiots who had ruined the early seasons, and featured only holograms of the characters! (The novels immediately disavowed the whole episode as imaginary, with Paramount's blessing.)
After its opening two-parter, which necessarily wrapped up all the mess the new producer had been left to sort out, the final season was otherwise doing all the things the series should have been doing in the first place, such as bringing the Vulcans back to some semblance of what they were supposed to be, explaining why the Klingons had two different makeups, and building toward the Romulan War and the beginnings of the Federation. Sadly, by then hardly anyone was watching.

I asked Ian if it was OK to post this, and he gave me the OK, so I'm not just randomly spamming you lot.

I'm looking specifically for Doctor Who Adventures #99 to help fill a big gap I've got after someone who was supposed to (and was getting paid to) be purchasing them in the UK for me while I was too sick to notice he wasn't went ahead and neglected to do so for several months.

I've got a reliable trustworthy "supplier" now (the same person who does my "Battles In Time"s), but also a big gap.

It looks like I found a couple of auctions which fingers-crossed will solve the bulk of my problems, but I still end up #99-less.

If someone has a spare #99 and is willing to sell it me (it does not have to be all gifty or anything) please contact me off list at jasonrh@....

I'm in the USA so we'll have to do airmail and paypal, but you would be helping the Doctor's comic book adventures continue on in my household. It would be a pure tragedy for an uninterrupted run which begins in November of 1964 with those silly Klepton people to get scuppered by bleeping Doctor Who Adventures and blanking multiple-freeping-sclerosis of all things.

Any help would be met with much gratitude.

Okay, I just got sent this as a link

Compare that to the box out in the latest DWM where he’s asked about Time Crash…  Either the online thing was written far more recently than DWM or someone online’s making up an interview.  Thankfully DWM doesn’t do that any more J
