Description
A Sort Of Small Space For Dr Who.
This group was set up as a temporary place to show old or rare Doctor Who paraphernalia.
When I began 'collecting' Dr Who in the late 70's in the UK, seeing 'Dr Who' was a rare happening. You saw it 24 times a year if you were lucky to be in. There were no DVDs or videos and repeats were more rare than finding 20 quid in the street. This is why the Target novelizations were so popular and why I began collecting Dr Who books and magazines.
As the years passed, bootlegs, repeats and BBC Videos became more and more available, and with this you start to notice that some things 'Wobble'! Whether it be acting, sets or scripts it became much more noticable with subsequent viewing.
As the 80's ended with the final episode of 'Survival' in Dec 89, a new decade began with a bigger push in a different direction of articles on the programme. Namely disecting the show into tiny pieces and, to put it bluntly, ripping it to shreds. Every 'wobble' is now 100 times more noticable than it was ever supposed to be, and even more so with the advent of super big budget New Who.
Anyway to get to my point, I love 60's and 70's Dr Who in print. Some of the scripts may be a tiny bit (or a lot) ropey, but at the end of the day, it only wobbles if you sneeze. I get a much bigger feeling of nostalgia from pulling these old tomes from my shelf, blowing the dust from them and having a quick flick through before popping them back again, than I do from watching The Talons of Weng-Chiang for the 145th time. Though with life being busy, as it mostly is for us all, I rarely get a chance to do this.
