After watching "The Contender" for several weeks now I have decided
not to watch this program anymore. As a true boxing fan I cannot
help but cringe when I watch this show. Realizing that the following
statements may offend those who monitor this forum I nevertheless
feel compelled add a few comments. First, this is NOT a boxing show,
it is an entertainment show. Second, I do not care what the boxer's
families have to say about the "matches", I do not care to see these
people interviewed, nor do I care to hear what the boxers themselves
have to say. Boxers usually say the same type of things over and
over again, it becomes repetitive and clichéd. Three, when
the "matches" are happening, I do not care to see endless crowd shots
and reactions, what's the point? It adds nothing to the match itself
other than to "heighten the excitement... supposedly" Four, why
don't we know who the judges are and how they scored the fight? Is
it perhaps the fights are fixed or the winner is predetermined? How
are we supposed to know if we don't hear the scoring and who scored
it? And finally, and most frustratingly… WHY DON'T WE GET TO SEE THE
WHOLE MATCH??? This is SUPPOSED to be a "Boxing Tournament" NOT A
HIGHLIGHT SHOW FOR HEAVENS SAKE !!! This last part is the most
annoying part of the show and one I can no longer tolerate. How
anyone who is a true boxing fan can watch is bilge and think its for
real is beyond me. Well, that's my 3 cents worth… take or leave it…
it is of little consequence to me.
