Hugh Jackman's boost for Aussie actors

HUGH Jackman may be the star but plenty of other Australians may be in for a
career boost from new Hollywood blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

A Who's Who of local actors lined up for extra roles and small speaking parts
with the film mostly shot in and around Sydney, as well as in Newcastle, Lake
Macquarie, and Brownlow Hill. Some scenes were also shot in Canada and New
Zealand.

"Shooting in Australia and New Zealand has opened up the X-Men universe,''
explains producer John Palermo.

"Audiences are going to be really excited about the film's look. We were very
lucky to have access to the countries' resources and amazing exteriors.''

There's plenty of action in the film but Australian audiences will have the
bonus of spotting local actors.

There are a couple of TV soap and drama stars - Home and Away's Chris Sadrinna
and McLeod's Daughters Myles Pollard - as well as veterans of the big and small
screen like Peter O'Brien, Max Cullen and Julia Blake.

Love My Way's Asher Keddie has one of the more prominent small parts, playing a
scientist in the mutant test facility.

"This film has lots of great characters new to the X-Men movies,'' said Jackman.

"It was particularly rewarding to establish these new characters and find the
right actors to play them.''

Even a small role in a film of this scale could provide a massive boost for
aspiring actors hoping to impress executives and studios.

At the very least, it's an impressive addition to the show real and resume.
