I run a 99% spam-free Yahoo group with little effort on my part. All I
do is make the default setting for all members "moderated". This means
that no message gets through without me okaying it. Of course, that's
not very practical. So, what I do is wait to see a post from members.
If their first post is on topic, then I go into "members" and
unmoderate that particular person. The list of unmoderated contributors
continues to grow as people post. Email addresses that generate spam or
inappropriate material are easily deleted and banned. No more spam! For
a small group, one moderator should be able to handle it. There is some
wisdom in having a couple of moderators though. This group is a case in
point. The moderator has disappeared and is no longer involved. They
should either have passed on the torch or deleted the group out of
respect to the members. So, when do we get to vote in the poll?
P.S. Looking for any info or memories of Elwy Yost's "Magic Shadows"
program from the mid-70s.
