Absolutely superb! (and I'm intrigued by some of the things going on in The
Tunnel!)

How many hours has it taken you to get to this stage?

Good luck with it; I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops!

My best to all,

Mark.

Thanks to Mike Loewen's photos, I now have pretty serviceable SAGE pluggable

For those that want to see more:

This is a 14mb QTVR movie. Any version of Quicktime should run it (although
Vista has problems as it seems to with a lot of stuff).

You click and drag your mouse around on the image (or use the arrow keys) to
see the towers from different viewpoints

You spoil us.

Is there any chance you could do a zip file as you have done with others in the

If not, that's okay.

I'll download them from the site.

I have had mixed feelings about this episode.

I have enjoyed the recycled Bernard Herrmann score
from "Garden of Evil", the "War of the Satellites" footage
of the starship, and the conclusion bringing another
pair of visitors to the Tic-Toc base.  The concept of
aliens plundering other worlds for foodstuffs is too
implausible.

=====================

It's one that I find painful to watch, and it tends to be one that I turn to
when I've been through all my favourites...

There's nothing wrong with the central premise of an alien invasion in the past.
It's almost Eric Von Daniken territory - which I'm not a believer in, by the way
- and the scene where we see the aliens arrive at the farm is visually
interesting and gives you some idea of the potential the idea had.

The idea of a technologically advanced civilization going head-to-head with a
more primitive one is pure WAR OF THE WORLDS, after all.

There are, however, too many ludicrous elements; the stock footage (and the
Apache attack sub-plot) is very badly integrated - worst of all in the scene
where they freeze-frame the cattle running and try to claim they're suspended in
time...

The scene, too, where Tony gets jailed and then cons the deputy into thinking
he's a reporter is thoroughly unconvincing.

That said, our regular cast are as superb as ever. I just wish their talents
could have been better employed.

As I say: nothing wrong with the idea...

Best to all,

Mark.

Hello Mark,

I like the beginning and the end of the episode.  The middle
plot is ineffective.  I found it novel at the beginning tumbling
aboard the starship.  You only know Tony and Doug are
somewhere in space, but you don't know when.  Later
we learn they are heading for earth, but it seems Tony
and Doug believe it might be their own present day
rather than the late 19th century.

During the denoucement the Tic-Toc complex and earth
are threatened as a another pair of aliens investigate the
disappearance of the 19th century visitors.  We watch
the starship make its departure for points unknown
in the image area.

I liked the beginning and the end too.  Most IA shows suffered from a lack of an over all universe where they could draw stories from.  These same aliens could have been seen in LIS or even in VTTBOTS.  I would have enjoyed having stories that had characters and races that went from show to show with the same look and story lines.

I'd much rather that the aliens had been scouting the Earth prior to a possible
invasion rather than just looking for some tins of beans being hoarded by an old
cowboy. Other than that I must admit to being rather fond of this episode. It's
certainly head and shoulders above other 'alien' episodes such as Raiders From
Outer Space and Town of Terror. And I love Robert Colbert's turn as Evil Doug
:-)

Hi, all.

In regard to David and Janet's comments:

===================================
>I love Robert Colbert's turn as Evil Doug :-)
===================================
>The "Evil Doug" was indeed a good take.
===================================

Colbert is very convincing; he's a superb actor.

It's interesting how many TIME TUNNEL stories are built around the relationship
between Tony and Doug - both in terms of their loyalty to each other *AND* the
occasions where circumstances bring them into conflict.

In addition to Doug going bad in VISITORS, he is brainwashed by the Gestapo in
INVASION - and nearly kills and is almost killed by Tony...

Then, Tony loses his memory in DEATH MERCHANT and finds himself an enemy of
Doug's, ending with that big fight on the bridge - and there's another
confrontation of a kind between the look-alikes in TOWN OF TERROR...

Getting back to VISITORS, the sub-plot of the cowardly barman works, I think.

===================================
> Tony himself was willing to sacrifice Doug
> to stop the alien raiders.
===================================

You're right, that is a good moment.

In regard to David and Mary's comments:

===================================
>Actually one of the few things I like about the episode is
>Tony conning the deputy.
===================================
>There was a humor about that.
===================================

I *DO* think its a good scene. It's clever (and credible) of Tony to recognise
the deputy's love of sensational journalism and exploit his desire to be a
celebrity.

I think I found it a bit ludicrous because the sheriff has just arrested Tony as
a potential trouble maker and tells the deputy to watch him carefully - and the
guy falls for the first strategy Tony comes up with! At least the actor playing
the deputy (whose name escapes me at the moment - and it shouldn't because he's
in a couple of episodes) does try to play him as a little gullible.

I have to say the set of the alien spacecraft control room is really nice.

I just feel it's a wasted potential.

The fact the humanoids depend on the gun for everything is a little convenient:
smash the gun and you win.

It would have been better if, say, Tony and Doug had beaten the aliens using the
weapons at hand in the 1880's.

Lastly, Janet:

===================================
>I'd much rather that the aliens had been scouting the Earth prior to >a
possible invasion rather than just looking for some tins of beans >being hoarded
by an old cowboy.
===================================

I agree about the beans -- and the motivation you came up with is a good idea.
That would have been more credible...

===================================
>Other than that I must admit to being rather fond of this episode.
===================================

I remember watching this one as a child but can't recall how I felt about it,
other than (I hate to admit) I was pleased some aliens had shown up...

:-p

===================================
>It's certainly head and shoulders above other 'alien' episodes such as Raiders
From Outer Space and Town of Terror. And
===================================

Well, now, I agree about RAIDERS (awful!) but (as I've said before) I'm quite
fond of TOWN...

I know it's got the most ridiculous aliens ever in the history of aliens but...
there are some good bits in it... honest!

===================================
>PS Mark, I'll be uploading the pics to 4shared in the not too >distant future.
===================================

Fantastic! Thank you. Would it be okay to use them (and some of the others
you've done) as part of the episode guide on my site?

My best to all,

Mark.

It's interesting how many TIME TUNNEL stories are built around the relationship between Tony and Doug - both in terms of their loyalty to each other *AND* the occasions where circumstances bring them into conflict.

In addition to Doug going bad in VISITORS, he is brainwashed by the Gestapo in INVASION - and nearly kills and is almost killed by Tony...

Then, Tony loses his memory in DEATH MERCHANT and finds himself an enemy of Doug's, ending with that big fight on the bridge - and there's another confrontation of a kind between the look-alikes in TOWN OF TERROR...

Getting back to VISITORS, the sub-plot of the cowardly barman works, I think.

You're right, that is a good moment.

In regard to David and Mary's comments:

============ ========= ========= =====
>Actually one of the few things I like about the episode is
>Tony conning the deputy.
============ ========= ========= =====
>There was a humor about that.
============ ========= ========= =====

I *DO* think its a good scene. It's clever (and credible) of Tony to recognise the deputy's love of sensational journalism and exploit his desire to be a celebrity.

I think I found it a bit ludicrous because the sheriff has just arrested Tony as a potential trouble maker and tells the deputy to watch him carefully - and the guy falls for the first strategy Tony comes up with! At least the actor playing the deputy (whose name escapes me at the moment - and it shouldn't because he's in a couple of episodes) does try to play him as a little gullible.

I have to say the set of the alien spacecraft control room is really nice.

I just feel it's a wasted potential.

The fact the humanoids depend on the gun for everything is a little convenient: smash the gun and you win.

It would have been better if, say, Tony and Doug had beaten the aliens using the weapons at hand in the 1880's.

Lastly, Janet:

============ ========= ========= =====
>I'd much rather that the aliens had been scouting the Earth prior to >a possible invasion rather than just looking for some tins of beans >being hoarded by an old cowboy.
============ ========= ========= =====

I agree about the beans -- and the motivation you came up with is a good idea. That would have been more credible...

============ ========= ========= =====
>Other than that I must admit to being rather fond of this episode. ============ ========= ========= =====

I remember watching this one as a child but can't recall how I felt about it, other than (I hate to admit) I was pleased some aliens had shown up...

:-p

============ ========= ========= =====
>It's certainly head and shoulders above other 'alien' episodes such as Raiders From Outer Space and Town of Terror. And
============ ========= ========= =====

Well, now, I agree about RAIDERS (awful!) but (as I've said before) I'm quite fond of TOWN...

I know it's got the most ridiculous aliens ever in the history of aliens but... there are some good bits in it... honest!

============ ========= ========= =====
>PS Mark, I'll be uploading the pics to 4shared in the not too >distant future.
============ ========= ========= =====

Fantastic! Thank you. Would it be okay to use them (and some of the others you've done) as part of the episode guide on my site?

My best to all,

Mark.

The "Evil Doug" was indeed a good take.

Tony himself was willing to sacrifice Doug
to stop the alien raiders.

I'd much rather that the aliens had been scouting the Earth prior to a possible invasion rather than just looking for some tins of beans being hoarded by an old cowboy. Other than that I must admit to being rather fond of this episode. It's certainly head and shoulders above other 'alien' episodes such as Raiders From Outer Space and Town of Terror. And I love Robert Colbert's turn as Evil Doug :-)

Janet

PS Mark, I'll be uploading the pics to 4shared in the not too distant future.

Actually one of the few things I like about the episode is Tony conning the deputy.

It's one that I find painful to watch, and it tends to be one that I turn to when I've been through all my favourites.. .

There's nothing wrong with the central premise of an alien invasion in the past. It's almost Eric Von Daniken territory - which I'm not a believer in, by the way - and the scene where we see the aliens arrive at the farm is visually interesting and gives you some idea of the potential the idea had..

The idea of a technologically advanced civilization going head-to-head with a more primitive one is pure WAR OF THE WORLDS, after all.

There are, however, too many ludicrous elements; the stock footage (and the Apache attack sub-plot) is very badly integrated - worst of all in the scene where they freeze-frame the cattle running and try to claim they're suspended in time...

The scene, too, where Tony gets jailed and then cons the deputy into thinking he's a reporter is thoroughly unconvincing.

That said, our regular cast are as superb as ever. I just wish their talents could have been better employed.

As I say: nothing wrong with the idea...

Best to all,

Mark.

I’m quite happy for people to do what they like with the pics – fill up your Flickr photo albums with them, use them for your Time Tunnel websites, or even upload them to other SF or Irwin Allen groups (although, for obvious reasons, I’d quite like it if they weren’t uploaded to rival groups that have the words ‘Time’ and ‘Tunnel’ in their title, please – it’s a pointless duplication apart from anything else and robs the groups of their individuality).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures (I know some of your girls will especially love the pics of hunky Whit Bissell and John ‘The Body’ Zaremba. In some of the pics Whit is holding a telephone so you can pretend he's phoning you and asking you out on a hot date - exciting huh! Yeah, break out the chocolates...mmmmmmmm).

Enjoy,
