Supernatural News
The return of Supernatural means the return of promo images.  Check out the gallery to see them and check out the added screencaps too.

You can find photos of Jared from January's Fangoria event in Texas here.  A few of our members had the privilege of going, and you can read the discussion about it in the forums.  There are a few videos of the convention up on YouTube, like this one for example, and  SuperWiki  has a huge collection of fan reports, photos, and videos as well.

Eyecon will take place April 4-6 in Orlando, Florida, and its guests include Jared, Sandy McCoy, Samantha Ferris, Alona Tal, Chad Lindberg, and Gabriel Tigerman.  There will also be a screening of Ten Inch Hero.  Check out Eyecon's site for more info and to book tickets.

TV.com recently posted an interesting interview with Eric Kripke.  He talks about the last four episodes of Supernatural, the writers' strike, and fans of the series.  Kripke mentioned Supernatural.tv in one of his replies, and we're all excited for that recognition from Supernatural's creator!

Supernatural will not get Lost
Supernatural.tv and WinchesterBros.com have joined forces in a newcampaign: Supernatural will not get Lost.Starting January 31, Supernatural will start airing its (current) last four episodes. The last episode will air on February 21, after which the series will be pulled out of the CW schedule.

In those four weeks, Supernatural will be up against Lost, CSI repeats, Don't Forget the Lyrics and Celebrity Apprentice.

We all know that Supernatural is never safe, and in the battle for ratings, every viewer counts!

Starting January 28th, and through the following weeks, both Supernatural.tv and WinchesterBros.com will post regular reminders, calling fans to watch the series on Thursdays, 9 p.m./ET; to tell their families, friends and co-workers to do the same; to spread the word: Supernatural will not get Lost.

---Phase Two
The Supernatural will not get Lost! campaign enters its second phase, in which we are offering fans the opportunity to send us their fanart - whether it be avatars or banners, whatever gets your creative juices flowing - for use in the fandom at large.

The fanart will be posted on both Supernatural.tv's and WinchesterBros.com Galleries. By submitting your fanart, artists give permission for their creations to be used by other fans, while being given due credit, in a joint effort to spread the word: The Supernatural will not get Lost!

This is not a competition! We will accept any fanart, as long as it complies with the following conditions:

1. It has the campaign slogan on it: Supernatural will not get Lost!

2. It includes the series' airing time.

3. It's clean: No pornography (explicit or hinted), no profanity, no attacking the CW and/or any of its officials.

A special section has been created on both WinchesterBros.com and Supernatural.tv's Galleries for the sole purpose of the campaign. Fanart will be uploaded on a daily basis, while a regular update will be posted on both sites, keeping fans informed.

To submit fanart to both sites, please use the following addresses:

WinchesterBros.com: pixiequeen@...
Supernatural.tv: webmaster@...

Note: No attachments will be accepted. Please send us a link to a site/LJ/etc. and/or an online image hosting site.

Also, PLEASE check the respective board you wish to use the art on, as each board may have their own size restrictions.

Keep spreading the word: The Supernatural will not get Lost!

Announcing an addition to the Supernatural.tv Newsletter...

Speak Up will be a new feature in the Supernatural.tv Newsletter.  I will include a Supernatural-related question in every other issue and readers may send in their responses.  A few of the most creative, most thoughtful answers will be included in the following issue.

Normally, the question will be in the newsletter, but since we're between issues, here's the question for May:

What do you think will happen in the last scene of the season 3 finale?

Send your response to sntvnews@..., or if you're a member of the Supernatural.tv forums, you may send your response in a private message (PM) to me, grkgrl88.  (Please do not send your submission to both places.  Just one or the other.)

Rules:
  • Please keep your response brief.
  • Your answer may not include any spoilers.  This is pure fan speculation.
  • Your entry will be credited with your username (or first name if you include it in the e-mail), unless you specify a different name in your submission.
  • The newsletter's editor may edit any response for content,  language, or length.
Deadline for submissions: Monday, April 28th

Speak Up

Thank you to everyone who e-mailed your responses in!
Here's a sampling of what readers said.

What do you think will happen in the last scene of the season 3 finale?

In a perfect world, it will be Dean and Sam driving off down the road in the Impala but, in my twisted sense of reality, it will be Sam kneeling next to the beaten and bloody body of his big brother Dean. The shot will pan to Sam's face as a single tear rolls down his cheek. Roll credits. - Winchester07

Dean will be looking into the depths of Hell, the hellhounds baying, whatever demon it is who holds his contract will be waiting (Lucifer maybe?) and then Sam will step in front of him, his eyes will go red (just like Jake's in AHBL2) and we'll realize that, just like Ava, with whom he shared the same power (death visions), he will have allowed the switches to flip, have accessed a whole slew of new Jedi mind tricks, and will now have the power to control demons...  Including the demon who has Dean's contract...  "You're not taking my brother anywhere..."  - Irismay42

I believe the last scene of Season three will show Dean walking away.  Whether he will be walking into hell, or walking towards the crossroads, I don't know.  I just know that I think that's how it will end, with a shot of Dean's back. - Tamara

I think Sam will find a loop hole in the deal and spend the entire episode working it out.  Just as the Hellhound comes for Dean, the boys will share a desperate look and the credits will fall in place.  Leaving us to wonder if Dean is going to Hell of if Sam has saved the day until season 4.  - Michelle

As for the last scene, I have been picturing Dean doing exactly the same thing what John did to Sam. When John asks Sam if he could get him a cup of coffee, and then have Sam finding his father dead on the floor. […] Dean could just ask Sam to get him something that would have to have Sam leave the room only to find Dean dead minutes later. […] As much as I hate it since I love Dean, Dean will die in the last scene and Sam will probably look like what Dean looked like when Sam died in his arms.             - Veronica

Look for the next Speak Up question
in June's issue!

Caption Contest

Here's the first caption contest, the newest feature of this newsletter.  (Thank you to Kayla for the suggestion!) The idea is simple: write a caption for the image below.  A few of the most creative, funniest captions will be included in the next issue.

Rules:

  • You may not include any spoilers.
  • One caption per person.
  • Please keep captions PG-13 or lower.  If it wouldn't be said in Supernatural, it shouldn't be in your caption.
  • Your entry will be credited with your username (or first name if you include it in the e-mail), unless you specify a different name in your submission.
  • The newsletter's editor may edit any response for content,  language, or length.
Here's the image.  Some of you might recognize this from season 2's Simon Said.  You caption may relate to that episode, but it certainly doesn't have to.

Photobucket

Send your caption to sntvnews at yahoo.com, or if you're a member of the Supernatural.tv forums, you may send your caption in a private message (PM) to me, grkgrl88.  (Please do not send your submission to both places.  Just one or the other.)

Speak Up

If you could choose any actor or actress to guest star in season 4,
who would it be?

Here's what our readers said:

My #1 would definitely be Samantha Ferris – would love to see Ellen back again.  My #2 would be Lauren Cohen – Bella was just warming up.  - Rachel

If I could choose any actor or actress guest star in season 4, it would be Danneel Harris. She played Rachel Gattina on One Tree Hill and she is also Jensen's girlfriend in real life. We saw Jared acting with Sandy and I personally want to Jensen acting again with her (they acted together in Ten Inch Hero). She is also an amazing actress and could pull off any role. - Jessica

If I could chose any actress or actor to guest star in season 4 of Supernatural, it would be Bruce Campbell. The guy can play anything and he's hilarious doing it. Make him a bad guy, a good guy, a demon... maybe something that followed Dean from Hell. He'd play off Jensen Ackles so well. - Sue

I would like to see Alan Ackles, Jensen's father in an episode of SN. - Silvertayl

I would choose Kyle Schmid, maybe as a crossover from Blood Ties to SN.  He would make an excellent vampire ally of sorts. - warriorgrrrl

Tom Welling as a hunter, that'd be way cool and will reunite Jensen and Tom at least on TV. - Ed

I would love to see the girls from Charmed do a guest appearance as witches. It would be a really good and fun episode and also awesome to see those three interact with the boys, I can imagine what would happen right now.... haha.        - tashheartsspn

I'd love to see Agent Henricksen come back in S4 as a hunter. He was a great addition to the show in my opinion. Just as long as he doesn't try to put our boys back in jail that is. :)   -Zara

I would like to see Micheal Shanks or Richard Dean Anderson from Star Gate SG1 be guest stars on the show.            - Dorothy

Board Updates

Last Icon Maker Standing (LIMS) is down to the final round!  Two artists went head to head.  Be sure to check out their work and vote!

There's a new kind of challenge on the board,
Better Together.  Writers, artists, and vidders team up to make a collection of work.  Check out the rules, form your team, and join in on the fun!

We've cleaned up the
Fanart Request forum and implemented a new system.  It's more organized and (hopefully) more manageable for the artists.  The new rules should also help members describe exactly what they want so artists can fill requests more efficiently.

We're making a few other changes on the board too.  Look for a fanfic archive sometime soon where you'll be able to read completed fics at your leisure.

The 2008 Supernatural.tv Awards are are over and results will be posted each day this week.  Thank you to the Awards Crew for all their help, and to everyone who participated.  We hope you had fun!  Check out the awards forum to see the winners!

We're starting a new type of on-going competition on the board.  Graphic Teams will be made up of artists and vidders to create Supernatural-related art and videos.  They will form teams, challenge each other, and improve their skills while they work together in the forums.  Read the introduction, check out the rules, and apply to be on a team.  We hope Graphics Teams will be a fun and exciting way for our members to interact and share their talent.

If you're not artistically inclined and don't make videos, we have a fanfic challenge currently running on the board.  Check out
Evil With a Twist.  Deadline is Friday, December 19th.

Membership in our forums continues to increase, and we continue to make changes on the board.  We now have a
Fanfic Archive filled with completed fanfic written by our members.  We're working on better organizing the Winchester Journal so look for changes in there soon.

Speak Up

Name one thing you'd like to see in season 4.  Maybe the writers never addressed something in season 3?  Is there an urban legend you'd love to watch Dean and Sam investigate?  Remember, no spoilers.

Here's what some of our readers said:

Send the boys to Canada!  They film the show there, they live there majority of the time.  How about they take a job there?  Plus, it would be great for them to do a myth that's from Canada, like Ogopogo or Sasquatch. -warriorgrrrl

I spent all of season 3 wondering what happened to Ellen and Jo. I would love to see them back in season 4 and maybe elaborate on what went on between Ellen and John. I always wondered if Jo might be the boys little sister, since she is about the only girl Dean never went after. -Sarah

I just want to see Sam and Dean doing what they do best! -Tracy'sdream

I want to see Sam use his powers and I want to see more about Deans necklace, like maybe an episode where it actually protects him from something. I also would love to see an episode about a really scary, come out of the shadows at night boogeyman, something really creepy. -Shanna

What I would like to see in season 4 is more ethnicity, more people of Asian, south Asian, Persian, and middle Eastern decent. And some folklore to go with it. - demon hunter

Note from the Editor

Hi everyone,

This is the last issue of the newsletter I will be sending out.  For those of you who are members of the Sn.tv forums, you know that  I will be less active in the forums in 2009, and I've decided to give up the newsletter as well.  I've enjoyed the past 3 years as a board administrator, and was excited to start up a Supernatural newsletter.  The newsletter's first anniversary is in February and we already have over 1000 subscribers.  Thank you for reading, and I hope you've enjoyed each issue.

Senator Seth, one of the forum moderators on Sn.tv, will be taking over the newsletter.  He is an excellent moderator and forum member.  I'm sure he'll do an excellent job with the newsletter.

Enjoy the rest of season 4, and come hang out in the forums if you get bored during the hiatus.  If you ever need to contact me, please feel free to send me a private message or e-mail through the Sn.tv forums

Our deepest condolences go out to the cast and crew of Supernatural for their loss of Director and Executive Producer Kim Manners, who passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009. Board Updates

The idea of Graphics Teams has been put on hold until the spring Hiatus. This is mostly due to the fact that users seem to be really busy around this time of year and a lot of people expressed interest, they just didn't have time. So look for Graphics Teams again in the spring!

Also,
Sam The Series will now be posted here in the forums! This virtual series takes place after season 3 and is headed by Sam451823, Shannon, and Nightshadeisis. If you need your SN fix, why not spend some time in the VS forums? Check out Sam the Series.

The member count for the forums has now hit over 40,000!! What an accomplishment for the show, and what a compliment for the forum! It's great to have such a large and wonderful community at SN.tv. Thanks to all of you for being awesome fans!

Articles:

Hello, fans of Supernatural.  Today, I've made a deal with grkgrl to air episodes of the virtual series Sam on Supernatural.tv.  The series picks up where Season Three of Supernatural left off with the series premiere entitled "As Daylight Dies..."  The series is currently on its midseason hiatus after airing its tenth episode, entitled "A Trip Down Memory Lane (1)," and will return on January 30th, 2009, with the episode "Doomsday (2)."
Sam stars Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, Katie Cassidy as Ruby, J. August Richards as Travis Sheridan, and Patrick Flueger as Carson Adams.  The series' official site is http://samtheseries1.proboards83.com.  Thank you for paying attention to this article and I hope to see you around the site or on Supernatural.tv forums in the near future.

CASTIEL

At first I was uncertain as to the introduction of Castiel as a character, uncertain as to where the show could possibly go regarding the appearance of an angel.  But, as the season has progressed,  Castiel has added so much to the overall myth-arc unique to the show, that I have grown to like the addition of an angel.  They've had demons and creatures of evil on the show for three seasons now, so why could they not have a being of light, representing all that is good to balance things out?

Castiel at first seemed a little mysterious, and probably still does to a certain extent, but, in my opinion, this adds to the appeal of the character, as I am left wondering what direction his story will take, how he will add to the general storyline.  I find it interesting how he seems to have a genuine respect and liking for humans and for Dean in particular.

The consistently dishevelled appearance of Castiel is a constant reminder that this, after all, is an angel riding the body of a devout man, a "vessel" as the angel himself constantly refers to the man as, or, in Dean's words "A Holy Tax Accountant"  No one truly knows what the angel's true form looks like, bar an unfortunate woman who had her eyes burned out for seeing on Castiel's true visage.  The only indication we have been given of Castiel's true angelic nature is the black and shadowy impression of a pair of featheredwings shown to Dean, because in Castiel's words, Dean "had no faith"

I think that Misha Collins is the perfect casting for the role of Castiel, as he seems to convey the perfect sense of outward innocence coupled with the air of hidden menace.  Misha has definitely made the character his own, and I cannot now imagine another actor in the role.

Here's hoping that Eric Kripke and his crew will continue to use both Misha and Castiel in many more episodes to come ...

Note from the Editor

Greetings,

Seeing has how this is my first issue for the Supernatural Newsletter, I thought that it would be a good idea to introduce myself. Incase you didn't read the last issue, or don't remember, I'm SenatorSeth, Seth for short, and I'm a forum moderator on sn.tv. I'm primarily a fan artist, but also make various genres of digital art as well.

However, when Grkgrl said she was stepping down as forum administrator and was looking for volunteers to take over the Newsletter, I thought it would be a good experience to expand beyond the fanart forum and try writing for the Newsletter.

Anyway, I hope that you continue to enjoy the Newsletter. There aren't going to be a lot of changes because I really like the way that Grkgrl has set this up and I love the responses that the newsletter is getting now. However, I will always be open to suggestions and contributions from you readers.

Thanks for your support, and thanks for reading this issue of the newsletter!!

  • This year's Supernatural.tv Awards are quickly approaching and the team is looking for input on how to make it bigger and better! If you have any suggestions, we would love to here them, just visit our suggestion thread on the forums here.

  • Supernatural Final is tomorrow night (Thursday May 14)!! Make sure you tune in for what is sure to be an amazing ending to this year's season!!

Board Updates

  • Currently we have the voting for a new Fanart Challenge up called the Good Vs. Evil Wallpaper Challenge. The challenge was to create a wallpaper that focuses around the aspect of Good vs. Evil in the Supernatural Universe. Oh, and how could I forget to mention, this was our first wallpaper challenge in two years! Please click the link above to go cast your vote for who you think should be the winner!

  • Also, LIMS (Last Icon Maker Standing) has started up again for this year's competition. It's too late to enter and be one of the Icon Makers, but everyone is welcome to participate in the voting rounds and help select the Last Icon Maker Standing! Click here to check out the forum and see what's happen.

  • A new and interesting game is being introduced to the board called, "Wolf" (a.k.a. Mafia). This new and exciting game is a game of psychology and logic. Set to a Supernatural theme, the game will consist of two sides, the human townspeople and the demons. In general, the goal is for the humans to try and figure out who could be the demons and vote to eliminate a player every day from the game, and it is the goal of the demons, who hid in secret amongst the human population, to eliminate as many humans as possible without drawing suspension to themselves. The game ends when either the townspeople have eliminated the infestation of demons or when the demons have eliminated the humans (this is to say when the human population equals that of the demon population because then the demons would control half the vote.) We're very excited to bring this new game to the members of supernatural.tv and we hope that you all will have a lot of fun with it! If the game is popular enough, we would like to expand it and open it up to even more possibilities such as various themes (like Harry Potter or classic Mafia style), have multiple games going at once, etc. If you would like to learn more about the game and have an interest in taking part, please check out our Wolf forum where Grkgrl has posted a resource thread explaining the game and also my intro to the game.

Show Offs

Greeting fellow fans,

I'd really like to try and give a new idea a try. In the old issues of the Newsletter we've had the "Speak Up" section where grkgrl would usually post a topic to which members could write about and their opinions would be included in the next issue. However, with me being more of an artsy kind of person, I'd like to add my own segment to the newsletter called "Show Offs".

In this section I would like to show off the amazing talent of our Supernatural fans. Everything from fanart, fanfiction, and fan videos. Just email us with one of your amazing pieces of art, make sure to include the name you would like to have credit given to (alias, username, real name, etc.), and in the next issue I'll include as many of these as I can. I will not allow people to use this as a promotion base. So please do not try to include a site URL with your email asking to include that as your name to give credit. Also, if you can keep URLs out of the piece that would be wonderful, too, however I do understand that some artists use their site URL as a watermark, which is allowed.

Standard rules apply, basically meaning all the rules found under "Contribute to this newsletter." I plan to have this section and the "Speak Up" section going on and off. Some issues will have this new "Show Offs" section, especially if there are no replies to the "Speak Up", but I plan to switch off between the two.

I hope this works out and I hope that you all enjoy it. I can't wait to see what you all can come up with, and I can't wait to share the amazing talent of our fans with all the other fans!!

Thanks,

.::~Seth~::.

Tell us what you think

Now that you've read this issue, do you have any ideas or suggestions for future issues? Contact the Sn.tv staff through the board or send feedback to sntvnews (at) yahoo (dot) com. We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Note from the Editor:

I'm deeply sorry for being so behind in getting this issue out to you all, but it's been a very crazy year. I hope to maintain a more monthly approach to sending out issues of the newsletter, so you guys won't have to wait two months again. :) Also, I'll probably be sending out a few special issues over the spring, summer, and fall as we do the awards to keep you up-to-date on those.

On another side note, I would greatly appreciate help collecting Supernatural News. I do pretty good keeping in touch with what is going on at the forum, but I don't get a lot of what is going on in general Supernatural News…as may be apparent from my Supernatural News section in this issue. So I would greatly appreciate it if you some of you could just send in links to news articles you find about Supernatural. Not every little thing, but if you see a kind of big article that you think every fan might enjoy or find interesting, send me a link and it'll probably end up in the next issue.

Thanks, and I hope you have enjoyed this issue of the Supernatural.tv Newsletter!

That's right, the Supernatural.tv Newsletter is returning!! We've been on hiatus for an extremely long time, but we are improving the Newsletter to try and bring you new and better content on a regular basis. We look forward to once again providing you all with the latest information about the Supernatural fandom and also with the most recent events over on the board (supernatural.tv)! However, in the mean time we have this brief mini issue to quickly catch you up on the major events taking place over at Supernatural.tv Forums.

First and foremost, today (September 4th) was the first day of the our forum overhaul, where the forum has undergone a few changes, some minor and some more visible. Here is a brief list of the changes that will be occurring today through Monday:

  1. A New Forum Skin
  2. Changes to the Character Forum
  3. Reconstruction/Organization of the Character Forum
  4. Changes in Member Central
  5. Reconstruction of Off-Topic Discussion Area
  6. New Fan Group Rules (For Both New and Old Fan Groups)
  7. Changes in the Fanart Forum

If you would like to read more on what all the changes are, please check out Yoda's announcement.

Also, the staff has decided to create our own LiveJournal Page to try and keep members up-to-date on news and events! Make sure to check it out and add us as a friend!

In honor of not only the 100th Episode celebration, but also the incredible artistic talent we have in our forum community, Luke Skywalker (formerly Senator Seth) organized an Artist Celebration Project that took the form of a Graphics Worm. The goal was simply to get as many artists as were interested to join the project and they all create a Graphics Worm, which is essentially a piece of graphic art that starts with one person, and then is passed on to the next who adds another piece, and then it is passed to the next person who adds their piece, and so on and so on. The first round of the Worm finished August 1st, but upon request of all the participants, a second round of the worm is being done to make it even longer! The second round is still a work in progress, and it is not too late to join the project  if you're interested!

Finally, this year's Supernatural.tv Awards has come to a conclusion, and the winners will be announced September 16th. This year, Luke and Yoda decided to scale back the awards to only include categories that involved the show directly, no member specific awards. Many people seemed to like this set up more than previous set ups in years past; so we plan to stick with this new set up next year.

And that is all the current news for the Supernatural.tv Forums!! The new official newsletter will be released later this month around the date for the Season 6 Premiere. Luke has put a lot of time into trying to make the Newsletter look amazing, and our new Newsletter staff has also been working hard to bring you some amazing content for our first issue!

Until then, we thank you for subscribing, and we'll see you soon!
