Hi,

I disagree with the book then...

There is humor in UFO, you just have to know where to look for it. Like many on
this list, it has taken nearly a lifetime of watching, understanding and
appreciating the show to know where the 'gold' lies...

Gerry and Sylvia were very brave to allow 'sad' endings, dark and sinister
plots, even 'dry' humor. I guess it showed the trust Lew Grade had in Gerry and
Sylvia to let this past despite what 'suits' were saying in various
geographies...

That's precisely what I like about it. To be fair, it's not completely without
humour. At least there's no larking about like with the new Doctor Who's
Eccleston and Tennant.

Yep, that was classic UFO! You've got to admit it. Straker was certainly cool...

Wouldn't that be great!

I think they could do worse than a remake of Identified and Exposed. Then
again the climax of Exposed works better for a TV series in its early
stages than the end of a film .. unless of course they're already planning
UFO II.

I don't see the Straker part being nearly as prominent in the film as it
is in the series, by the way.

Perhaps the Shado Yahoo group should suggest their own film script ideas - and
send themto the script writer - much
along the lines of Snakes on a Plane!

Alien blackmail using one of their SHADO insiders. Maybe the aliens kidnap Tina

Hi All,

I guess I was outvoted with my impression that Paul Foster wasn't a likely
candidate to focus on how "Inner Conflicts" as a plot key.

Fair enough...

Okay, so any guesses as to the general plot outline for this new movie?

It's a couple hour movie, so:-

We'd HAVE to have a period taken up establishing:
- The alien menace (inbound, shocking scenes of mutilation, abduction, etc.)
- Establish SHADO,
   - its background, location, main characters and equipment
- Time focusing on Foster - we know that much
- Other character development

...then what???

...could Foster's 'inner conflict' misguidedly lead him to expose SHADO and the
alien menace. Why would he do that? Could there be a deeper terrible reason?
Alien blackmail using one of their SHADO insiders. Maybe the aliens kidnap Tina

Any thoughts? Other ideas?

Yeah, I just checked out IMDb, just to find out who this Joshua Jackson actually
is, and already I don't like him. He's too young, not Brittish, and nowhere
near as cute as Michael Billington. ; P

From his photos I could easily see him doing angst no problem. Doesn't seem to
be any mention of who the other characters will be played by tho.

Did I miss something, somewhere? I don't recall reading anywhere that
the upcoming UFO movie was going to be filmed at Pinewood studios
(although I think that would be great if it was)

TV actors often film a movie in between seasons, so I don't
see that as a problem. Also, the ratings for FRINGE aren't
what they used to be, so who knows if it will be around for
another season.

This is the first sign that something is actually in the works. However I did
remember back in the 1980's when Disney was planning on doing a animated version
of Edgar Rice Burrough's John Carter of Mars series based on the first book The
Princess of Mars they had a item in Variety saying Sean Connery was involved.
The film never got made because they could not come up with a script.
The thing that does bother me about this is the fact that Joshua Jackson is
in Fringe. That means if the series continues that his appearance in a UFO
movie depends on him being available when the movie is being made. If the
shooting times overlap something will have to give. And now days I don't see a
hit TV series giving time off to a lead actor to do a film.

True enough. And in my defence, I DID say in my first post some hour ago:

".......If the film DOES get off the ground, it would most likely only be
good for
reigniting a wider interest in the original series......"

I agree with you Marc. I think there are all sorts of potential inner conflicts
with Paul Foster that haven't begun to surface. The biggest being...did I see
what I thought I saw and how to prove it. My hope is that this movie brings more
attention to the TV show which then opens the door for a new era of TV and our
saga. I think the time is right.

Yes, they could certainly have inner conflict with Foster's character.
First he wanted to expose the truth, only to start working for an
organization which tries to hide the truth from the public.

I don't have a negative reaction to this news... it shows that they
are making progress (production starting in the spring of 2010?),
and they care about character development... plus, Joshua Jackson
seems like a good enough choice.

I *do* want to see a new UFO film made, because it will raise awareness
of the original series... and who knows, it may cause someone to go back
and remaster the original series in HDTV in the correct aspect ratio.

Heck, I see that on my local Cable "On Demand", I can now watch every
episode of "The Prisoner" (original series) on demand, due to the new
remake (which I have yet to watch, but have read one bad review).

Cool...It's about time; I've been hoping for a New UFO ever since the show
ended in the early 70's...!!

The ONE STEP BEYOND I remember was a series hosted by John Newland which ran
from 1959 to 1961. It didn't deal so much with science-fiction as it did with
the paranormal. Sort of a "THRILLER Lite".

Yep, THE INVADERS I remember very well and am glad to
hear is available on DVD with Christmas coming up. ;)
The other one doesn't ring any bells, maybe they didn't
show it over here in the UK? Or, I'm a bit too young
at a mere 50 and it wasn't repeated much on TV here.
Shame, sounds like it would have been my cup of tea, but
at least it's available on DVD, too. :)

I certainly remember "The Invaders... a Quinn Martin Production..."

Roy Thinnes who starred in "The Invaders" also starred in Doppelganger AKA
"Journey to the far side of the Sun" as Glenn Ross with Ian Hendry as (John
Kane) and not to mention the beautiful Lynn Loring (Sharon Ross) and Loni von
Friedl (Lisa Hartmann)... and lastly not forgetting the late and greats Ed
Bishop, George Sewell, Vladek Sheybal, Franco De Rosa, Basil Moss, Norma Ronald,
... Philip Madoc, Keith Alexander, Annette Kerr, Jeremy Wilkin...

Griff

PS. I remember the song "ONE STEP BEYOND" ...
