*Flashback to 38 Minutes (the bug eppy) and Instinct where Ellia
grabs onto Sheppard's arm and begins feeding on him*
Sheppard is lying on a stretch and brought into the infirmary.
Sheppard protests that he doesn't need to be lying on a gurney, but
Carson advises that he's lost a lot of blood. McKay follows him, and
begins whining about having to walk, lol, while John is wheeled in.
Carson unwraps the bandage, then tells Sheppard that the iodine he's
using to clean the wound might hurt. McKay is moaning about his
splinter, while Sheppard doesn't seem to be reacting to the pain as
much as Carson is expecting. When he cleans the wound it turns out
that the wound has gone.
Carson decides to run some blood work and asks Sheppard to come back
when they get the results in.
Sheppard and Ronon go on their usually exercise runs around Atlantis,
and Ronon is having difficulty keeping up with John, a first for him.
Nice exchange between these two, and we learn that Sheppard is a sore
loser when it comes to beating Ronon at running lol. Ronon gives up
and lets Sheppard carry on running. Back in the infirmary, the
results are in and they don't look good.
Feeling energetic, Sheppard spars with Teyla and kicks her butt.
Teyla sensing something is wrong asks him if he's okay. John tells
her to call him `John' while they're off the clock. Sheppard then
lunges at Teyla and holds her in an arm lock against the wall than
kisses her hard on the lips. Teyla, surprised, isn't quite sure what
to think. Carson contacts John and asks him to come to the infirmary
leaving a stunned Teyla.
In the infirmary, Carson tells Sheppard that the retrovirus is in his
blood work. Sheppard tells Carson (as he's feeling guilty) that it's
not his fault. Reassuring Weir and Carson that he's fine, Carson
thinks it's possible that the retrovirus is breaking down in his
system but he's to come back for a check up in six hours. Sheppard
volunteers not to leave the base until he gets the all clear.
Caldwell in the meantime appears to be skulking and instead of
heading back to Earth decides to stay for a bit on Atlantis as he's
heard the news on Sheppard.
In Sheppard's quarters, John finds an unusual skin problem on his
forearm where Ellia had begun feeding on him.
As John is lying on the diagnostic table, Weir and Carson are talking
about what's happening. It seems as if the retrovirus isn't breaking
down in Sheppard's system as Carson had hoped, and the news is even
graver. He's becoming into something that resembles Ellia. Carson
asks Weir to give John a pep talk, and she tells him that he's going
to be fine. John interprets this as him being a dead man, and a funny
exchange ensues between them. (Some good lines here, which I'll have
to put in the quotes database).
Carson and the team of doctors and scientist brainstorm to try and
figure out a way to reverse either Sheppard's DNA or eliminate the
retrovirus from his system, the only way they think they can solve
the problem is by manipulating his DNA at the macroscopic level by
using the stem cells from the eratus bug.
Weir, McKay, Carson and Lorne discuss going back to the planet where
Sheppard was attacked by the eratus bug and get the cells. The only
problem is, getting the samples and getting out alive.
As the team (minus Sheppard) and a few SF's prepare for the mission,
Sheppard visits Weir demanding to go on the mission. Weir,
unrelenting, refuses and Sheppard starts losing control. Beckett has
got him on antiviral inhibitors, but they're losing their
effectiveness and it's starting to show.
In the interim it seems as if Caldwell has been making some changes
to how the base is being run on the military side, and Weir is not a
happy camper and tells him so.
The team have now arrived on the planet and have found the caves
where the little buggars are living, and they head into the cave.
Rodney is so funny, he pulls up his parka so that the bugs don't
latch onto his neck, lol. As they get into the cave, the whole area
is filled with crawling bugs, Eeeeew, good SFX.
Carson gets out his watering can filled with salt water, which he
knows will chase the bugs away from the nests that are hanging. (see
38 minutes for details). Then, just as Rodney did earlier, Carson
pulls his parka up, lol, and Rodney shouts out, Carson inevitably
tells him to shut it, hehehe.
Needless to say things start getting a bit desperate as Carson tries
to grab the cells from the sacs, and unfortunately it isn't long
before they are chased out the cave, leaving the 2 SF's to face an
inhumane demise, which takes our team back to square one.
Weir goes to tell Sheppard the bad news, but Sheppard is not himself,
he's changing dramatically. Weir explains to him what happened at the
cave, and John asks her to tell the team to try again. She refuses.
So Sheppard tells her that she should kill him now. When she refuses
he goes nuts and attacks her and the SF's standing outside his door.
The team are subsequently assembled to find Sheppard, who's roaming
around Atlantis. Caldwell tells the SF's to use excessive force where
necessary; Weir interjects and tells them that only in exceptional
circumstances should they shoot to kill.

Spoilers for the end?
Sure you want to know?
Positive?
Okey Dockey, don't say I didn't warn you.

As the team try and find Sheppard, Ronon leaves the group and starts
tracking him on his own. Sheppard in the meantime is scaling tall
buildings in a single bound (think Spiderman, lol) and manages to
escape the SF's, but not before Ronon manages to zat him with his
stunner and then takes him back to the infirmary where Carson places
him in a medically induced coma.
Trying to figure out what to do next, Carson comes up with a plan to
use Sheppard as a way of getting the stem cells. It seems as if his
sweat glands are producing a pheromone that is similar to that of the
bugs, so that means he would be safe going into the cave. The problem
is, the inhibitor is not working very well on Sheppard and introduce
a shot of more inhibitors could kill him.
Surviving a shot of the inhibitor, Sheppard is lucid enough at this
moment to make it to the planet, and heads out to the gate room with
Carson on his heels, and he meets up with his team. I think this is
the first time Rodney has actually seen Sheppard as his facial
expression is great, he looks very shocked, bless him.
They gate to the planet, but it's taken them longer than they
thought, and Sheppard is not quite Sheppard anymore. Unsure if he
knows what's happening, Carson explains what John needs to do once
inside the cave, and Sheppard heads in. Managing to get a small
quantity of the stem cells, Sheppard starts to lose control and
rushes out of the cave, pushing the team out of his way. Ronon zats
him and they manage to get him back to Atlantis where Carson
administers the antidote, and the team are relieved to find that he
will be okay in a few weeks.
The last scene is where Sheppard visits Teyla in the workout studio,
and apologises for his actions. Teyla is being coy, lol, and Sheppard
eventually apologises for kissing her, she tells him to think no more
about it, and then calls him John as she leaves, lol.
Thoughts?
Loved this eppy, I think it shows how much the team has bonded
together, and Carson may just hold the key now to reverting wraiths
into human, hmmmm, there's food for thought. (Pardon the pun ;o) )
