Welcome to the list! NRF is a wonderful group of people, as you will come to
know, who love to talk about anything and everything - but especially Due
South. We have 'no stinkin' rules' here, which means you are pretty much
free to say whatever you want about whatever you want. Don't be surprised at
some of the rather off-beat off-topic discussions that occasionally pop up.
We are an ecclectic but friendly group. Pull up a chair by the fire and the
Mountie or Chicago Cop of your choice and make yourself at home.
A couple of quick explanations that newbies always ask about... At the end
of a lot of messages you will see a phrase that ends with 'Spice!' <G> This
is a carry over from one of those little 'games' that we tend to pop up with
occasionally - in this case, the idea was to give the Due South Characters
'Spice Girl' names. The evolved into giving ourselves Spice Girl names and
then evolved further into it's present form which is basically just a kind
of PS area or post script. Got something completely unrelated to your post
you want to add? Go for it! (I hate hang nails - Spice!)
You will see games, as I've stated pop up from time to time - it's been a
while actually since we really did any - anyone and everyone is welcome to
play! In 'Outburst!' a person thinks of ten related things and writes them
down (this is done before the topic is announced) Then he posts the
Outburst - ie... "Name 10 bodies of water named in Due South" - as will the
real game, it's a race. If you think of an items you post it - 'Lake
Superior - Mountie on the Bounty". Whoever gets an item on the list first,
gets credit but we don't really keep score and frankly the 'not on the list'
list can be just as facinating and fun as the ten items that the 'game
master' has chosen. Another game you mightl see is 'The Alphabet Game" which
is kinda a mini-fic in which whoever wants to play will post two to four
lines of dialogue (script style). The catch? You have to start each line of
dialogue (when you change characters) with the next letter of the
alphabet! - gosh, but it's been too long since we did either of these. RL
has been a pain of late.
Let's see, what else... Questions are welcome - we *love* questions! Fic is
quite welcome too, of course. Make sure you check out the link at the bottom
of all messages to find the NRF archive, hosted by the very talented
Wolfwalker. We are open to all kinds of fic - slash, gen and het - which is
becoming a rarity I fear in this fandom... The openess and diversity here is
what makes this such a very special list!
As per Kali's request - yes, the pic muse did attack me rather hard a couple
of days ago! - I have created a new folder in the 'photos' section of the
Yahoo list site (Named 'Art') and have uploaded the last couple of things
the muse attacked me with. I hope you and the others enjoy them.
'K, I probably forgot a bunch of stuff but I gotta get ready to go wrestle
with my husband's 'health insurance annual enrollment' junk. They are
wonderfully goofed up, naturally.
Hope to chat with you and the others more later! Have a special day!
