Cool!! I would definitely love to see
those!<br><br>Hmm...I didn't know he was on "McMillan & Wife"; gonna
have to keep my eyes open for a repeat.<br><br>Not to
sound like a gossipy Tiger Beat reader reject or
anything, but have you ever seen Gretchen? What does she
look like? Is she much younger than
Richard?<br><br>I've only read bits and pieces about his earlier
years...I know he and Diana Dors were divorced, but I never
really heard anything about why, or how he ended up with
the boys, etc. Her autobiography is out of print, so
I haven't had any luck there. Any details you've
heard that you can share....? :)

Have you seen his McMillan and Wife episode
entitled "Aftershock". It was on A&E last New Year's Eve
(I haven't been keeping up since then). He was
excellent, playing Roger Stambler, a jewel thief looking for
a cache of emeralds. He had this one scene where he
gets himself invited into the next-door room of an
attractive lady also, and he used his "amnesia victim" gag.
It was very good.

We're basically in the same boat in regards to
GSN. I have quite a few on tape, but not the Gretchen
Johnson episode (4/6/81). I'm trying to get it through
trading though. And yes, I'm a latecomer to the Dawson
scene, although I'm trying to make up for lost time! I
didn't see any of his 94/95 episodes in totality, just
glimpses.<br>(It was on during the noon time slot here!!!).<br>But
yes, he brought his wife & daughter up on stage, I
think after the first 94 episode. Shannon is really
adorable (and need I say, a spitting image of her father -
check out People 11/14/94).I'll try to put up some
pictures of the two of them soon.

I almost forgot to ask.....does this movie answer the question "what do Scotsmen
wear under their kilts?"   ;&gt;

Well, guess what I'll be renting ASAP?!
;&gt;<br><br>I didn't want to say too much before, in case you
liked the "DVD" episode.....I agree with you, I didn't
find it funny at all when he got doused with
champagne; I felt embarrassed for him, especially when they
were talking about it the next day at the office. I
know, it's only a show and a character, but, like you,
I tend to get emotionally involved....
:)<br><br>That's also why I wanted to know a bit about his other
appearances; I'm hoping there's not another Tracy-type role.
Knowing the Love Boat, it worries me that he might come
off looking goofy....<br><br>Do you have a lot of FF
on tape? I've only recently gotten Game Show
Network, and am taping them as I go along, but there's
some classic ones I'm dying to see. ( For example, the
one on which he met his now wife.) And, I'm ashamed
to say, I never got to see any of the 94 shows when
Richard returned as host. I've heard that he brought his
daughter out a few times; have you seen her? Is she as
adorable as we'd expect? :)<br><br>Sorry this is
long-winded - but it's fun finding another fan!

Oh, yes P.S - The Love Boat episode in question is<br>"The Song Has Ended", and
I think it premiered in 1978. I remember him mentioning it some time back.

Yes-nice bum scene in "Devil's Brigade" when
Hugh's kilt flies up as his jumps off a bar. You'll see.
No, I've not yet seen him in Love Boat; it's
impossible to find it on tape, like a lot of his TV guest
appearances. And the TV movie "How to Pick Up Girls" as well.
I also did not like Tracy Rattigan, it seemed more
like a charicature than a character. And I was
probably the only one who doesn't laugh when Rob Petrie
pours champagne on his suit! I'm too emotional I
guess...

Thanks for the rundown, very interesting and
helpful!!<br><br>I didn't know Richard was in "King Rat"....wasn't
that the movie where they were actually serving rats
to the prison guards or something? I'll have to
check it out. Likewise "Devil's Brigade" - bum scene
sounds like a definite "must see"! ;&gt;<br>"Munster Go
Home"? Guess he really needed to pay the rent at the
time....<br>I read somewhere that he plays a photographer in
"How to Pick Up Girls", but that's about all I know
about it.<br><br>Have you ever seen his stint on the
"Love Boat"? I never used to watch that show, but I've
since heard Richard mention it on the "Feud" and
wondered which episode it was, what he played,
etc.<br><br>(Just as a side note: I can't really explain why, but I
did *not* like Richard's character in the "Racy Tracy
Rattigan" episode of the "Dick Van Dyke Show".....I know it
was early in his career, but I just hated to see him
being so obnoxious.)

Here goes:<br>1)The Running Man(1987)<br>V1, T1.
The latest, and in my opinion, one of his best movie
roles. He plays a sarcastic, ratings-obsessed emcee who
winds up being a victim of his own game.<br>2)The
Devil's Brigade (1968)<br>V2, T3. He plays Hugh McDonald,
part of a spit-and-polish Canadian unit which is
teamed with a brawling, brass-knuckled American
contingent to form an elite fighting force. Violent but not
gory/graphic battle scenes.Richard wears a kilt! A nice shot
of Richard's bum during the bar fight scene
(!).<br>He's not a main character but has a few good
lines<br>and is given a few minutes of film time.<br>3.
Munster, Go Home (1966)<br>V5, T4. Richard plays Joey, a
British henchman.<br>No violence or strong language.
Hardly a main character, but there are a few funny
scenes when Herman Munster scares him and his pal
Alfie.<br>4. King Rat (1965)<br>V2, T3. A movie set in a
Japanese POW camp in WW2.<br>Violence and but no graphic
scenes. A movie masterpiece, just like the book it is a
memorable experience. Richard doesn't come into the film
until the last 10 min., when he has a sizeable scene in
which he marches into camp and forces the Japanese
guards to surrender.<br>5. War and Peace
(1956)<br>V5,T5. I've seen it twice and still can't figure out
exactly who he is!A good, if rather legthly, remake of
the Tolstoy classic. I think he might play one of the
Czar's soldiers, or maybe a few background roles. No
major(or even minor) scenes with him, I'm afraid.

I've seen all of his movies except "How to Pick
Up Girls" and "Treasure Island". To be concise, I've
given you a little scale showing how
violent/gory/graphic each movie is (V1=most violent, like "The Running
Man" to V5=no violence/G-rated) and how much film time
is given to one of Richard's characters (T1=main
character, ala "The Running Man" to T5=cameo appearance).
This is a personal rating but I've been objective, I
promise. Hope it helps!

Actually, Feldman credited it to "King Rat", in
which Richard, who plays a paratroop captain, has this
one magnificent scene where he comes through the
prison gate all alone.<br>Feldman auditioned him for
Hogan but decided against it due to Richard's strong
British accent.<br>He eventually cast him as Cpl. Peter
Newkirk.<br>(From "The Complete Hogan's Heroes Reference Guide",
Brenda Scott Royce, 1992)

Yeah, I've browsed there before. I was hoping to
find someone who'd seen his movies, though, to find
out what they're like, what kind of part he plays,
etc. For example, "The Devil's Brigade" is a war film;
I'm wondering how gory it might be, or how much
Richard actually appears in the film, etc etc. :)

those surveys...Today's topic:<br>What is your favorite
Richard Dawson character from
TV/movies/stage/etc.?<br><br>Personally, I have a tie between Oliver Fair on
<br>"The

was superlative in both and really gave his
characters depth as well as personality.

I saw that post, too, and wondered about it. I
haven't found a *lot* of biographical info on Richard,
but in all that I've found I've never seen a mention
that "Richard Dawson" is not his real name. Nor have I
ever seen it mentioned in the "TV Game Shows"
newsgroups, and they've mentioned quite a few aspects of his
personal life, so you'd think this "Colin Emm" thing
would've popped up at least once. I did notice that the
original poster of that message also had the last name
"Emm".... Coincidence?

Recently, in my internet surfing, I reached a
Hogan's Heroes message board. On it was a question about
Richard Dawson's origins, and a reply stating that
Richard's real name is Colin Emm, and that he had an older
brother, Jack, who is now deceased. Now I remember that
some time back, on Family Feud, he made some kind of
oblique reference to an older brother, and I think he
also made a few references on Match Games over the
seasons. Does anyone remember or am I imagining this? Many
stars take on stage names (Richard's first wife did),
but did he?<br>As Arte Johnson would say, Verrry
interesting....
