Hi folks,

MTV Europe broadcasted a documentary looking back at 15 years of MTV Europe
at the beginning of this month.

If you are able to get a look at it in rerun, You sure should!

It all starts with the launch of MTV Europe back in 1987 and certainly the
footage from those very early years is great to watch. I was totally amazed
with how the VJ’s acted at the end of the 80s. It was a very alternative
way of presenting and kind of controversial from time to time. It was a
Monty Python kind of humor. Apparently those first years the VJ’s had a lot
of artistic freedom and pushed the boundaries of television further and
further…

There’s also some footage of Ray from those early years, but he only
becomes the key player when the story moves to the 90s. Without a doubt, he
was the face of MTV back in the early 90s and it’s great to see footage
from those years, comments from big stars about how they liked him and
Ray’s own comments (recorded recently) about those years. It also
emphasizes on how cutting-edge his way of presenting was: never before crew
members had played such a key role and that created a large part of the
atmosphere.

The story continues and after the highs, come the lows. For the first time,
we get an honest look at the whole X-Ray Vision story with some truthful
comments from Ray and the MTV bosses. Ray confesses that it maybe wasn’t
such a great idea to make such a large show (the 2nd biggest budget MTV
Europe ever had) around him: a bit of the magical Most Wanted atmosphere
(amateuristic and low budget)  was gone, but nevertheless the viewers
stayed loyal… And then came Hamburg were all went wrong. An MTV executive
tells that in 1996 they didn’t have much experience with outside
broadcasting and they handled it completely wrong. It was the toughest
neighbourhood and a newspaper article incorrectly told that Die Toten Hosen
(German punk band) would play live on stage (it was a live broadcast from
Cologne) lead to a very hostile environment. Ray’s macho behaviour against
the crowd only enlarged the hostility. The situation escalated and we all
know how it ends.

The documentary continues (without Ray) up to the present day MTV Europe
and it all ends with some present day footage in which Ray says “I’ll be back”

Recommend viewing material if you told me. Hopefully it will be rerun soon
in your area and otherwise you’ll have to wait for the end of year repeats.

so it's probably one of those 3.

Although the most crappiest episodes were mostly the funniest...

There were magnificent live performances on the show from all the biggest
names in showbizz so I think it would be one hell of an album,
unfortunately all that music should sound a bit out of date now. It's
probably too late after the show to be a commercial success...

  From October 23rd you will be able to watch a new show with Ray on the french
culture/music channel arte called "Music Planet 2Nite".

It will be a serious show with live music and interviews with rock bands
and others. Each show will have a newcomer and an established name. The
shows are recorded both in Paris with Ray as host, and in Hamburg with two
French hosts.

The first show in the series will be from Paris with Ray as host. His two
guests will be Cheb Mami and Susheela Raman. This show will be aired on
Tuesday Oct. 23rd at 23.00 CET.

The week after will be from Hamburg, with the two French hosts, featuring
Reamonn and Heyday.

On Ray's next show he will have Placebo as guests.

Hi Folks,

A local Belgian newspaper (De Standaard) reported last week about the 7 new
programmes that culture TV channel Arte is sheduling for this Autumn. A
small portion of the article deals with a new music show called "Music
Planet". From what we already know, it's very likely to be Ray's new show.
The article says that Music Planet will be broadcasted on Tuesday night at
20.30 CET three times a month. It starts on October 21st with concerts from
Placebo and Cheb Mami.

I've included the whole article at the end of this email for the Dutch
speaking people between us.

BRUSSEL (belga) -- Cultuurzender Arte pakt vanaf eind deze maand uit met
zeven nieuwe programma's. De Frans-Duitse zender, die samenwerkt met de
RTBF, werkt naar eigen zeggen aan een beter programmarooster met meer
aandacht voor de overgang tussen het eerste en tweede deel van de avond.

Arte gaat zich verder nog meer toeleggen op de hedendaagse culturele
sectoren, nieuws, film en theater.

Op vrijdag om 23.15 uur brengt Arte een nieuw praatprogramma met mensen uit
de culturele wereld. De Duitse actrice en zangeres Ingrid Caven, fotograaf
Henri Cartier-Bresson en striptekenaar Enki Bilal zijn nu al uitgenodigd.

,,Forum'' wordt een debatprogramma over Europa dat elke zaterdag om 19.00
uur wordt uitgezonden. In de eerste uitzending komt de crisis in Europa aan
bod en is de vroegere voorzitter van de Europese Commissie Jacques Delors gast.

Zondagavond biedt Arte zendtijd aan dans. In ,,Danse'' passeren om 20.15
uur alle dansvormen de revue. In twee kleine clubs, le Réservoir in Parijs
en de Gum Club in Duitsland, treden muziekgroepen op. ,,Music planet''
zendt die concerten drie dinsdagen per maand uit om 20.30 uur. Cheb Mami en

was just wondering what you thought about his new show? Have
you seen it and did you like it?

During the last chat, Ray confessed that during the past year, he
even thought about going back to MTV? I would like to hear your
thoughts about that as well. Do you think that MTV would be able to
make a show like Most Wanted (I doubt that they still have the right
