Hi folks,
Marieke has spotted Ray on BBC this week. Has anyone seen it too? Maybe
Mariek can fill us in about the details....
I also received this:
Did you know that Ray was co-hosting since 2 weeks a show in France
called «Union libre». It's a funny tv programm about Europe that can be
seen every sunday on France 2.
Greets,
Reinhard
Hey folks,
Ray is apparently popping up everywhere! After the Sky Sports
news (it's true! you can see screen grabs at the yahoo club), I've
received the following:
Hello! I'm a french Girl from Paris! Ray Cokes is now one of the hosters of
a show called "union libre" on european countries! he's Representing
France! I saw him and He's really funny! Sophie
So if you spot Ray anywhere else, let us know! He might be
popping up on a screen near you soon... ;-)
Reinhard
Hi folks,
Someone in the Yahoo Club told the following:
---
Just a quick note that i've spotted Ray fronting a show called
"Sporting Auction" on Sky Sports.. he's basically talking about
boxing memoribilia thats going on sale soon..
From what I can tell, it appears that the basic concept here is to set
up the auctions with a few taped shows, then to have a live auction.
Ray seemed to imply that he'll be fronting the live boxing auction
show, Monday 25th September, at 7pm on Sky Sports 1.
I've no idea if Ray will be presenting it, but after the boxing
auction, the series switches to football with the following
schedule:
29/09/00 - 18:30 - Sky Sports 2
30/09/00 - 13:30 - Sky Sports 2
01/10/00 - 18:30 - Sky Sports 2
02/10/00 - 13:30 - Sky Sports 2
02/10/00 - 22:30 - Sky Sports 2
03/10/00 - 17:30 - Sky Sports 2
04/10/00 - 08:30 - Sky Sports 2
04/10/00 - 20:00 - Sky Sports 1 - LIVE SHOW
From Stranger234
---
If someone can confirm this, please tell us...
Greets,
Reinhard

I understand that tootally I had to redo my exams too 3 years ago and it
isn`t enjoyable...
> How are you doing back at university, and what´s your thesis

I`ll be working on building a radio receiver for the next 8 months, but I
also have to attend classes from October on so it will be a very hectic
and busy 8 months. At least we won`t fall asleep. It was quite adventurous
for the past 4 days. I already burned 2 fingers and I saw a measuring
device give it last breath. It suddenly started smoking (not my fault) and
so 3.000 Euro went into the bin. And my lab partner blew up a very small
element called a condensator that caused a short but heavy fire... I`m
thinking about by a life insurance and that`s maybe not so a bad idea in
these circumstances...

I taped them, but after viewing I overtaped them, so no I don`t have a
room filled with tapes, but I do have 2 tapes with MW material laying
around and it`s nice to rewatch them from time to time...

Cool. I guess my mother would start speaking French and since Ray
understands and speeks French better then her that could have been a very
funny situation.

I`m alright, but there`s a very tiring weekend ahead for me. Stay safe and
I hope that I can make it to the chat on Sunday, but I`ll have to see if
nothing else comes in my way, because I still need to plan my holiday and
we are leaving in 1 or 2 weeks. It`s madness...
Take care and stay safe
Reinhard ;-)
Hi Reinhard,
sorry for not writing back earlier....but here we go...
> Congrats on passing your exams and enjoy the rest of your holidays.

Thank you :-) I´m so happy about it, because everyone who failed
has
to take them again in the forthcoming weeks, so quite a lot of my
friends don´t have holidays really...
How are you doing back at university, and what´s your thesis
about? How long will it take you to work on that?

I´m sure it did, it sounds quite strange as well... Did you tape
all
the shows??? You must have a huge pile of videotapes in your room...
> Did Ray speak German with her or does she speak English fluently?
She does speak a bit of English, nevertheless she just wanted to pass
me the phone as soon as possible... By the time she had finished her
first sentence I was already there to take over ;-) She was almost as
nervous as me...
Anyway, I hope everything´s fine with you... and everyone else
who´s
reading this ;-) See you all on Sunday.
Take care
Kirsten :-)
Hi Kirsten,

Congrats on passing your exams and enjoy the rest of your holidays.
Autumn can have a nice weather as well... For me it's back to uni
next week to start working on my thesis.

During the first year, I taped MW and strangely enough we had a
VCR in the living room, but not in the other room. That TV was
connected to the VCR as well, so everytime that a video or an add
break came on, I had to run to the other room where my parents
were watching to forward the tape. It looked very strange...
> Won´t forget the night I sat in front of my TV watching Most Wanted
> when I suddenly recognised that that woman answering the phone was

Did Ray speak German with her or does she speak English fluently?
Reinhard
HI ALL!
First of all: Hi Marieke, welcome back!!!! How was New York? Sounds
like you had a really good time. Lucky you... I had to take my exams,
fortunately I passed the last one yesterday, that can only mean one
thing: HOLIDAYS!!!!! Yes finally, now that summer´s almost gone, I
have some time off and can enjoy my AUTUMN holidays..aargghhh...
No chance to get even a tiny bit of suntan, this must be the most
efficient way to prevent skin cancer...
I haven´t seen any good movies lately but here is how I got hooked
on
Ray: A long time ago.... in 1992 the German telecom decided to put
MTV
in their cable system. I just watched bits and pieces of several
shows
and one night it was Most Wanted. After twenty minutes I knew that
this was the coolest and funniest programme I had ever seen.
Unfortunately we only had one TV set at that time so I couldn´t
watch
every night. It took me about two months to "convince" my parents to
get another one.....well, they were fed up with me switching over to
MTV in every 20-second-break of their favourite shows ;-) After that
I
hardly missed any shows. I still regret that I never made it to club
bed. Whilst we were in London a friend and I went to the MTV studios
every night for a whole week and cheered at Ray doing "Clean Our
Souls" in the MTV carpark, plus I was in the huge Cologne club bed.
Great night that was... My favourite moment though has to be talking
to Ray on the phone and winning the "Goody-Bag". Won´t forget the
night I sat in front of my TV watching Most Wanted when I suddenly
recognised that that woman answering the phone was my mum......
...aaaaaahhhhh...great memories......
Okay that´s it for today, hope everything´s fine with you all
Take care
Kirsten :-)

hey there!!
it's me! i'm back from my REALLY (!) nice trip to New York and it was
absolutely fab!! i really wanna go back now, but that'll be
impossible..... :-(
i just joined the group and i've heard from Rein that we have to use
it some more... so here i am!
some movies i've seen lately:
*Scary movie, kinda funny but pretty cheesy though... bit nakes gun
kind of humour.
*What lies beneath, was a real good movie, with michelle pfeiffer and
harisson ford. was predictable but pretty scary.
*Coyote ugly, about some girls dancing in a bar, cool movie, the guys
will love the girls in it and there's also a cute guy in it for the
girls, aren't we happy?!
*Autumn in new York, with Richard Gere and Winona Ryder, really nice
but very sad movie, get the tissues ready!!!!!!!
*Romeo must die, such a crap movie!!! absolutely terrible!!
oh and Stir of echoes, cannot really remember i've seen it last
october and it's in the cinema in Holland now, but as far as i can
remember, was pretty good!
that's about it i guess........
talk to ya later!
marieke

Hi folks,
Here's a bit of movie ranting...
* Mission Impossible 2
One of the big blockbusters of this year didn't furfill my expectations:
it was an entertaining movie, but the plot didn't reach the
suspensefull ride of the first one. The action was cool, but it didn't
reach the same heights as Face/Off (another movie from the same
director).
* Frequency
Talking to your dad 30 years in the past through a radio is a very
strange concept, but it was turned in a very amusing movie with a
very good plot and some appropriate small action sequences. Big
thumbs up...
A couple of other movies are still on my hit list:
The X-men
The Perfect Storm
Pitch Black
Blood Simple
American Psycho
So if you've seen one of them, then I would like to know your
opinion as well. Tell me if I should go and see them...
Reinhard

Hi Folks,
I'm back from camp and I just wanted to say hello.
The camp was loads of fun: it were 7 of the most intense and
greatest days of my life. I made loads of friends (they've all become
brothers and sisters of mine) with whom I can talk about anything in-
depth. The only darkside of it, is that I've become addicted to hugs!
I'll be joining hugging anonymous soon...
I hope you enjoyed the chat last week (I still need to get through the
log...) and I've just been reading those fun Ray introduction stories.
Keep them coming....
I'll also take this opportunity to tell you what you can expect from
Ray Online in the next few weeks:
o more cartoons (yeah!)
o More articles (whenever we find the time to type them out)
o more sound files (we already have them, but we don't seem to
find the time to get them online! sorry...)
o and of course more discussions in here (I still have some subjects
in my mind, so be prepared...)
Talk to you later,
Reinhard
Great idea this mailing list!
As a group moderator my self 'Use it dont loose it!'
As for how I got in to watching Ray, purely by accident.
I very rarely watch telly, even rarer for me to actually get to take
command of the sky tv zapper!!
One night I flicked thru the channels got to MTV Queen video was on
(anyone who knows me will know the significance of that!!) After the
vid Ray was there and the rest, as they say, was history.
Since then been to mtv twice - should have been 3 times, long story )-
:
And Ch 4 to see wanted twice.
It would be great to see Ray again soon, fingers crossed!
Guess thats enought crap from me
Sue
Hi How's it going. Good to see stage one of the 'Ray Cokes takes over
the world' movement is finally back on track.
I first watched Ray at the start of 1992, when MTV Europe ruled the
waves and MTV UK was only a bad dream in some Exec's brain.
How we laughed at the 'slight technical gremlins' and the pan-
European phone-in's, which made the voting on the Eurovision song
competition look professional.
I first started to watch MTV because it seemed everyone from Europe
could talk to each other, slag off bad music and gang up on the poor
Germans. Now, times have changed. Things are getting desparate. There
is only one solution.
BRING BACK RAY!!!!!
firestarter
We would like to remind you of this upcoming event.

Hi everyone!!
Very good idea this egroup, Rein :-)
Just wanted to say that I cannot join in the chat on Sunday, I have
to
take four more exams during the rest of August. Keep your fingers
crossed please, I need all the support I can get ;-)
Anyway, enjoy the chat and I see you all next time.
Have a great summer everyone and reinhard, enjoy your camping trip.
Take care
Kirsten
Hi folks,
Before I leave for a 7 day camp, I thought that I might start 2
discussions. Here's my second discussion subject (don't hesitate to
start one yourself).
As some of you know by now, I'm kind of a movie freak. At least one
movie a month and some months I go 4 or 5 times to the cinema. So
I'll
tell you about the last movie I went to: Final Destination.
Final Destination is written by 2 ex-X-Files writers and it tells the
story of a bunch of kids who escape a plain crash, but they were
suposed to have died so death comes after them...
It isn't one of the best movies I have ever seen, but it was an
amusing night out. I sat on the edge of my seat a couple of times and
it's very well written. Two thumbs up...
Anyone else been to the cinema really? If you have any good
suggestions, please let us know...
Reinhard
Hi folks,
Before I leave for a 7 day camp, I thought that I might start 2
discussions (you're welcome to start a couple of your own as well).
Here's the first one:
I was wondering when did you see Ray for the first time and what did
you think?
I'll tell you my answer. It was way back in 1992, I barely spoke
English (I didn't have any English courses at that time) and I got to
meet Ray on The Big Picture. I found it a funny chap and I actually
liked his presenting style.
One night, I was switching channels and I came accross Most Wanted.
It
was a very strange piece: Ray has received a letter from a girl
asking
what the family name was of Rob, the cameraman and Rob answered: "The
cameraman". I found it kind of strange and I didn't pay much notice
to
it, I just switched channels (shame on me).
During the summer, I got to know Ray a bit better through the special
series of programmes that he did about the Olympics in Barcelona and
I
liked his way of presenting even more, but it took a couple more
months before I really got introduced to MW. It was Big November and
Most Wanted was only 60 months long but packed with competitions and
stars + a special quiz to find MTV's number one fan. I really liked
it
and when the MW Weekend came I along, I was permanently hooked!
Now, It's up to you to tell your story...
Have a nice chat on Sunday and I'll talk to you all when I come back
next week
Reinhard
Hi folks,
I just got invited to a camping trip so I won't be able to make it on
Sunday. It's a bit of a shame and I'll miss you dreadfully while I'm
sitting around the camp fire with my friends...
Have a nice chat and I hopefully chat to you all in September...

Yeah, I plan to, but I`ll be unable to update the site before Sunday. (I`m
planning a trip to the coast tomorrow. But with this weather, my friends
are out of their mind going to the seaside, I must be insane following
them...)

That`s good to hear. Belgium, well... I`ve been soaked for most of my
holiday, but I still have a couple of weeks to go so it might turn sunny
by then. I haven`t been on holiday yet, but I plan to go at the end of
September. I would love to do a hiking trip in the north. Denmark or
Scotland, but some folks told me that Denmark is pretty expensive
(especially the alcohol ;-) )

Hi Trine,
> I'm here I'm here ..... who else's here? When's the next chat *looks
> around for DanLand* ...
Congrats you`re number 2. I just started this list 15 minutes ago. Your
damn fast...
The next chat will be on August 6th 2000 at 21.00 CET.
I only sent out an invitation to the 5 Ray fans in my addressbook, so if
you know more then surely invite them...
How are you doing?
Love,
Reinhard
Hi folks,
I just started the group, so I'm basically sending this very first
email to the only subscriber of the group (Am I out of my mind?).
Hopefully many will follow my example and start mailing to this
list.
We basically had this cool idea of starting a list for and by the
fans and I hope it will be a great addition to our website.
Maybe everyone could start with introducing himself, so since I am
the first person I should show the way: I'm Reinhard, 22 years old,
student Electronics in Ghent (Belgium) and to most people I am known
as one of the webmasters at Ray Cokes Online (www.raycokes.com).
I've been doing that ever since Adri asked me to join 2 years ago.
On the other hand, I also have my own website
(http://studwww.rug.ac.be/~rlaroy/), which I've been working on for
3 years and finally I've been getting some recognition for it from
some magazines in the States.
If you don't really know what to post in here, I'll give you a
couple of suggestions (anything else is also allowed):
- your hobbies
- music (seen a good concert, heared a great song? or hear some Gary
updates from Trine ;-) )
- movies (seen an unbelievably great or bad movie we want to know)
- the different cultures in Europe (anyone with some strange
customs?)
- maybe Ray Cokes ;-)
- and much more...
Have a great chat at RayOnline and I talk to you later...
Reinhard
