Hi!

I have searched long and hard for Probe eppies myself and I have yet
acquire them. But I have come across 2 places that are not offering
Probe right now, but may in the future. First up is:

http://daviddietz3.freehomepage.com/video.html?

Up side: This guy has a huge sci fi tv collection that includes lots
of hard to find shows. He is strictly a tape trader, no money is
involved. The best part is that even if you don't have any shows that
he wants, he will accept blank tapes equal to the amount of tv shows
you want as a fair trade. All the eppies of Probe can fit on an 8
hour tape at SLP speed. You would send him 2 eight hour tapes: one to
tape eppies on and one for himself. Great isn't it?

Downside: As you can see form his notice, as of July last year he
stopped trading. :-( I am so ticked at myself for not having ordered
my eppies when I had the chance. Hopefully everything will resume
sometime, but it has been almost a year since he stopped trading.

Maybe some of the traders linked to his page will be helpful.

The second option is less likly but here it is anyway. This is the
site where I heard about the first site and this yahoo group from.
The site creator says they may start making copies of Probe eppies...
in a few years.

http://austinjames.tvheaven.com/

These are the only places I know of.I don't know how much help
they'll be. I'ed like to add my request to Jen's. If anyone knows of
a reliable place where Probe eppies can be obtained, please let us
know.

Thanks!

I actually just stumbled onto the pilot when it first aired, having
not even heard about it beforehand. I was instantly hooked. There
just weren't many hour-long dramas on the air that had that perfect
combination of intelligence and humor. Nowadays you see it all the
time (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Numbers, etc). It was definitely
ahead of its time. I guess I was naive at the time, I didn't expect
it to fail like it did, but in hindsight I guess it never had a chance.
I haven't even caught it on sci-fi yet. I hope they show it again
sometime, I'd love to be able to copy it. I'm glad there are a few
others out there who remember it as fondly as I do. I literally
haven't seen a full episode of the show since it was first on, but
it'll always be my favorite show that was canceled way before its
time. It's too bad it'll probably never be released on DVD.

Thanks for sharing with us, sarahcutter!!
I too, saw "Probe" on it's original ABC airings, only I actually
missed the movie pilot due to my local ABC affiliate interrupting
it's broadcast!!
I only wanted to see if it would be any good, as I had heard that
Isaac Asimov was to be behind the show in some way.
I truly fell in love with the very first episode, it was far better
than I ever hoped it would be!!
That is why it is STILL my favorite program, I never tire of seeing
it. I never was a fan of Parker before Probe - but he won me over as
Austin James and Ashley Crow was just pure HOT as Mickey!

My favorite episode is, "Now You See It..."

Okay, who's next...?

I watched Probe the first time it aired on ABC back in March/April
1988. I knew of Parker Stevenson from his days on The Hardy Boys and
the series looked interesting. As with most of the shows I really
like, it was canceled way too soon! I was hooked from the first
episode. I thought Ashley Crow was great as Mickey. She wasn't the
typical damsel-in-distress type. She was quirky, but could hold her
own. And I loved Parker as the eccentric Austin James.

My favorite episode was Quit-It.

Glad you shared with us your first Probe experence. what you are
remembering was called "the sci-fi series collection" - one by one,
each episode would be aired, till all the segments had finished, in the
ones I saw, they also included interviews with cast or writers or
producers who often talked about how amazing the show was, or timeless,
etc. What a blast - glad you enjoyed Probe.
Anyone else want to share how they first got hooked?

I'm glad someone else besides me remembers this fab show. And you are
right on the money, austin_james2005. I never saw the orignal
broadcast of Probe4. I got hooked on it back when the Sci-fi channel
first started. On weeknights, they used to have this thing( the name
escapes me, but i remember the word "collection" being in the title)
where they would play eppies of short lived sci fi shows. They played
shows like "Nightmare cafe", "The New Dark Shadows" , "American
Gothic" and "Probe" of course. This is before they got on the "pimp
our orignal programming" band wagon. It's been a few years since they
aired Probe or any other hard to find shows. Not that all thier OP
sucks. Some of it is pretty good, but it's not what made me start
watching.

This show was way too short lived but from what I've read it was
destined to fail in its orignal time slot. Head to head with the Cosby
Show?? That was so unfair.

Well, gang in our first 2 months we have been able to link at least a
dozen fans of the short lived TV program, "Probe" together. Not bad for
a series that was only on the air for less than half a season - and
only in fact on the network for just 2 short months.
I'm sure many of you got to see the series thanks to sci-fi channel
airings, as well, and were able to spot the same charm that the rest of
us "first-time out" fans enjoyed from the very begining.
I hope we continue to grow with at least a dozen more fans every 2
months till we have every single "Probe" fan here in our group.
For those of you who are already with us - thanks for supporting the
group and our little show. We got a lot of great things coming up soon,
once we get a few more people in here, so stay with us, and you'll be
glad you did.
Good to have you all here!!!

Okay gang, I left you hanging on this one for a while - no tries!!! (I

you in the group play around with it, and maybe try and finish it, or
just re-write it all together for a better one!
Mickey was trying to write a limerick about Austin in the pilot movie,
only she got stuck, it goes:
"There once was a wizard named James
Whose genius exceeded all claims
He could solve out of hand
All the problems of man...
Blah-blah, blah-blah, blah blah blah"
Now you go and figure it out!
While your at it, check out our new Probe site that's just getting
started (the old one was running out of space). There will be links to
both of them later to join them together - soon!

Hi gang - first let me say hi to all those who have just join up with
us this month - glad to have you on board, my goal is to get as high
a member group as 30 - and I know you are out there (50 and I'd be in
heaven!!!).
And why, you may ask - because this show deserves it that's why! And
I know you are out there, at least that many of you saw this
wonderful program and run a computer, so come on and see what you are
missing.

our smart group member Regina P recently answered another members
request about the limerick that was used in the pilot that got Mickey
into Austin's "Bat Cave" - but there was another limerick used in the
movie, one that Mickey was writing herself about Austin (till she had
trouble finishing it). Can anyone recall it (without checking their
episode copies)?

I'll start it for those of you who want to play along (If you can't
recall it and don't have the episodes, try and finish it!).

"There once was a wizard named...

Now, let's see if any of you can play along
Glad to have you all here - please see past posting if this is your
first time here.

As far as I know, it is not available for download.  The odds of it ever being released on DVD are pretty slim, as it has so few episodes.  But we can hope :)

I watched Probe when it first aired. I remember when it, along with
Max Headroom, was cancelled for being "too cerebral". ABC then went
on to air "Roseanne", thereby forever dispelling any risk of
attracting too smart an audience. Not that I'm bitter or anything :)

Anyway, I was wondering if the show is available for download
anywhere. I know it's not available on DVD, but I'd buy it if it were.

I hope I'm not too forward with this, but I believe that limerick goes
like this:

S
P
O
I
L
E
R

S
P
A
C
E

There once was a poet named Gunderson,
Whose rhymes were exceedingly cumbersome.
With each botched refrain,
His complaint was the same:
"How do I get into these situations?"

Because I just happened to be thinking of this TV show, and a new
Group shows up!

OK, I have a favor to ask! Issac Asimov was a big fan of limericks,
and a couple were in the pilot. What I 'just' can't remember is the
limerick that Austin used to keep people out of his warehouse. I
remember the concept, it was about a man with a name so difficult that
when people asked him about it (or something like that) he'd answer
with the fifth line, "Why do these things always happen to me?" which
doesn't rhyme or isn't the correct meter, which of course is the joke
and why no one could complete the password.

Anyone remember?

Welcome to the very first posting of our Probe TV Series Yahoo Group!
I plan to unite fans of the Probe TV Series through this page and
link all of us together to form a huge fan-chain of the Probe show.
As I searched the web, I found many of you out there, scattered about
- so now I intend to link us together and share what we all seemed to
think we were the only ones out there enjoying!
If you are a fan, join up, write in, share your FanMemories of the
show and it's wonderful stars. Talk about the talent behind the
outstanding writing, or how ahead-of-it's-time it was, to have aired
before later shows of the same genre caught on!
I plan to offer all kinds of goodies as well, such as fan art,
profiles, short stories, etc. - so give us a try and see how you like
being part of the group.
Check back for info on links to sites and photos soon!
