Well, I've moved everything over to a new web host. There were a few
days where the site wasn't functioning properly but hopefully that's
fixed. I've also been trying to set up a proper message board where
you can post messages and pictures. Of course, this isn't as easy as
it should be. But be patient and it'll be up soon!

It's just too sad that anyone would harm the adorable sea otters.
These people need to be severely beaten!

2 MAMMALS FOUND SHOT ON BEACHES

By Paul Rogers

Mercury News

An environmental group offered a $2,500 reward Monday for
information leading to the conviction of anyone connected with the
shooting deaths of two endangered sea otters that were found washed
up on Monterey Bay beaches.

The dead otters were found May 8 at Pajaro Dunes near Watsonville
and June 13 near Del Monte Beach in Monterey, said Ed Newcomer, a
special agent with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Anyone who deliberately kills an otter can face up to $100,000 in
fines and a year in jail.

Subject: Zurita the single-mom penguin
petersreviews

Abandoned by her mate, attacked by the other females in her colony
for trying to steal their spouses, Zurita is a penguin who should
have been doomed to fail.

Instead, the plucky little bird has done what no other penguin has
done before: raised a chick all by herself.

Well, not entirely. She did have the help of biologists at the
Brookfield zoo outside of Chicago who fed her fish throughout the 42-
day incubation period.

But Zurita is certainly the first Humboldt penguin to raise a chick
without the help of her mate. Because in the wild the eggs won't
incubate if they are left in the frigid air while the mother goes
off to hunt for food.

That's why penguins work in pairs to raise their young and often
mate for life. And that's why male penguins share parental duties by
helping to build the nest, incubate the eggs and search for food.

Most male penguins, that is.

It's not Gazpacho's fault, insists senior keeper Darlene Broniewicz.
He was just a teenager at the time and didn't know any better.

See, Zurita and Gazpacho were never supposed to mate. Gazpacho was
supposed to be too young to be able to fertilize an egg. He was
supposed to just keep her company after she had to be isolated from
the colony because she'd been looking for love in all the wrong
places.

I didn't think the fuel cell cars would be out so soon!

WASHINGTON -- Honda's next-generation, environmentally friendly fuel
cell car FCX has been leased to a family in Los Angeles, marking first
time regular consumers have been able to regularly use the new type of
vehicle.

The hydrogen-powered car, which seats four, is being leased to the
Spallino family in California. The cost of the two-year lease is 500
dollars per month -- relatively low when considering the estimated
several hundred million yen production cost of the vehicle.

She said he yelled, "Come here, little girl," before getting out of

He said he simply lectured her.
She said she broke free and ran, fearful of what he'd do next.
In a Thursday ruling, the Appellate Court of Illinois said the 28-year-

The first single will be "Achy Breaky Heart," the smash hit made
famous by musician/actor Billy Ray Cyrus. Cyrus will appear in the

William's quirky personality and lovable demeanor captured the hearts

Subject: 10 Ways To Get An Upgrade On Your Next Flight
petersreviews

Taken from MSNBC http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7656110/
A lot of obvious advice here.

1. Become a member of that specific airline's frequent flier mileage
club. You can be a member of many different airlines' clubs.
2. The flight is oversold in economy, but there are empty seats in
business and or first class.
3. You are dressed smartly or in business attire. Jacket and tie for
men and a dress/suit for women.
4. You are traveling alone. Sorry, if you're with kids, it's almost
an automatic disqualifier.
5. Always be willing to move when asked. I know of a man who refused
to move because he was seated on the aisle. What he didn't realize
was that the seat they were offering him was in first class.
6. Courtesy and kindness does go a long way in this industry — I
have seen many people upgraded just because the kindness they
showed. I know when I am aboard, if someone is especially nice, I
want to do something extra for him or her, and I'm positive the
ground staff feel the same way.
7. Be early. Your chances of sitting up front diminish quickly when
you inquire at the last minute.
8. If you have been seriously inconvenienced on a previous flight,
make sure the check-in agents know about it. But don't make a scene
or they will put you in the worst possible seat, hoping never to see
you again.
9. Use the right card. Many times the credit card you pay with has a
redeemable mile feature usable with several different airlines.
10. When you book the ticket ask about upgrades and prices. There is
a fare called Y-UP fares that cost a little more but increases your
upgrade chances immensely. Many times there are ongoing promotions
to spur first class revenue. I paid full fare on an airline and was
amazed when an extra $20 got me sitting in 1A. I can easily justify
that cost in red wine.

suddenly attacked by a bear near here home here over the weekend,
police said.

Hunters launched a search for the Asiatic black bear that attacked
Sumiko Yamada, but were unable to find it.

Police have urged people in the area to be on the lookout for roaming
bears.

Police said Yamada was walking through ride paddies about 1 kilometer
away from her home when the bear suddenly leaped out and attacked her.
She broke free from the bear, crawled to her home and called for an

I was just thinking. People don't like Cruise because he's arrogant.
It has NOTHING to do with allegations of his sexuality or his belief
in Scientology. Take John Travolta. He's a scientologist and his
sexuality has been questioned. But he doesn't jump up and down about
Kelly Preston (but maybe I'd understand if he did) or pretend he has
the answers to all mental disorders. He comes across like a nice,
funny guy that if he said something stupid, he'd be the first to make
fun of himself. That being said, I'm still not going to watch
Battlefield Earth.

I've been biting my tongue on the whole Tom Cruise thing and trying
to keep my web site and this message board on a positive note but
Cruise has just made it even tougher. If he would just settle down
and laugh at himself from time to time and not get so worked up and
angry all the time it would be an improvement. He comes across so
self-righteous like he knows everything and the rest of the world is
living in ignorance.

Here are some bits from his interview where he says a lot of stuff
except where he got his medical credentials from. My comments will
be noted by **.

Cruise: I've never agreed with psychiatry, ever. Before I was a
Scientologist I never agreed with psychiatry. And when I started
studying the history of psychiatry, I understood more and more why I
didn't believe in psychology.
And as far as the Brooke Shields thing, look, you got to understand,
I really care about Brooke Shields. I think, here's a wonderful and
talented woman. And I want to see her do well. And I know that
psychiatry is a pseudo science.

Lauer: But Tom, if she said that this particular thing helped her
feel better, whether it was the antidepressants or going to a
counselor or psychiatrist, isn't that enough?

Cruise: Matt, you have to understand this. Here we are today, where
I talk out against drugs and psychiatric abuses of electric shocking
people, okay, against their will, of drugging children with them not
knowing the effects of these drugs. Do you know what Aderol is? Do
you know Ritalin? Do you know now that Ritalin is a street drug?
Do you understand that?

Lauer: The difference is —

Cruise: No, no, Matt.

Lauer: This wasn't against her will, though.

Cruise: Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt —

Lauer: But this wasn't against her will.

Cruise: Matt, I'm asking you a question.

Lauer: I understand there's abuse of all of these things.

Cruise: No, you see. Here's the problem. You don't know the
history of psychiatry. I do.

**See here's where he comes off as being pompous. He's already been
caught spreading misinformation about history and medicines. He
just doesn't learn...

Lauer: Aren't there examples, and might not Brooke Shields be an
example, of someone who benefited from one of those drugs?

Cruise: All it does is mask the problem, Matt. And if you
understand the history of it, it masks the problem. That's what it
does. That's all it does. You're not getting to the reason why.
There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance.

Lauer: So, postpartum depression to you is kind of a little
psychological gobbledygook —

Cruise: No. I did not say that.

Lauer: I'm just asking what you, what would you call it?

Cruise: No. No. Abso— Matt, now you're talking about two different
things.

Lauer: But that's what she went on the antidepressant for.

Cruise: But what happens, the antidepressant, all it does is mask
the problem. There's ways, [with] vitamins and through exercise and
various things... I'm not saying that that isn't real. That's not
what I'm saying. That's an alteration of what I'm saying. I'm
saying that drugs aren't the answer, these drugs are very dangerous.
They're mind-altering, antipsychotic drugs. And there are ways of
doing it without that so that we don't end up in a brave new world.
The thing that I'm saying about Brooke is that there's
misinformation, okay. And she doesn't understand the history of
psychiatry. She doesn't understand in the same way that you don't
understand it, Matt.

**But Tom understands perfectly how to cure depression. If it's
easy enough for Mr. Risky Business, why not just share the recipe
with the world. If it works, everyone would benefit!

Lauer: But a little bit of what you're saying Tom is, you say you
want people to do well. But you want them do to well by taking the
road that you approve of, as opposed to a road that may work for
them.

Cruise: No, no, I'm not.

Lauer: Well, if antidepressants work for Brooke Shields, why isn't
that okay?

Cruise: I disagree with it. And I think that there's a higher and
better quality of life. And I think that, promoting — for me
personally, see, you're saying what, I can't discuss what I wanna
discuss?

Lauer: No. You absolutely can.

Cruise: I know. But Matt, you're going in and saying that, that I
can't discuss this.

Lauer: I'm only asking, isn't there a possibility that — do you
examine the possibility that these things do work for some people?
That yes, there are abuses. And yes, maybe they've gone too far in
certain areas. Maybe there are too many kids on Ritalin. Maybe
electric shock —

Cruise: Too many kids on Ritalin? Matt.

Lauer: I'm just saying. But aren't there examples where it works?

Cruise: Matt. Matt, Matt, you don't even — you're glib. You don't
even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical
imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how
they came up with these theories, Matt, okay? That's what I've
done. Then you go and you say where's the medical test? Where's
the blood test that says how much Ritalin you're supposed to get?

Lauer: It's very impressive to listen to you. Because clearly,
you've done the homework. And you know the subject.

**That's Matt being sarcastic.

Cruise: And you should. And you should do that also. Because just
knowing people who are on Ritalin isn't enough. You should be a
little bit more responsible in knowing really —

**There's Cruise missing the sarcasm.

Lauer: I'm not prescribing Ritalin, Tom. And I'm not asking anyone
else to do it. I'm simply saying, I know some people who seem to
have been helped by it.

**It goes on. You can read the whole transcript. Y'know Cruise
isn't necessarily wrong, it's just the arrogance he has, like he's
smarter than every doctor and psychiatrist. This is the guy who did
Cocktail and Mission Impossible. Whatever...

Here's a more practical way of supporting our troops than putting a
sticker on your car. There's a web site where you can find out how to
e-mail a soldier who doesn't have any family. There's also another if
you want to send a personal package to someone who doesn't have any
family. It doesn't matter what your belief is on the war, these are
still Americans who could use some contact from home.

From Mainichi Daily News:

The first 100 titles in series of jazz albums released in Japan by the
famous American jazz label Blue Note Records have sold a combined 1
million copies, a feat in the jazz world where a new album is
considered a hit if it sells 10,000 copies.

I remember being excited years ago when I got my 2 megapixel camera.
Check out this web site and see what you can do with 4 gigapixels!
Very cool except, you're not going to see this in a pocket version for
a long, long time!

I've been getting into Gershwin in the last few months. There's a lot
of amazing stuff there! I got turned onto Gershwin because of John
Pizzarelli's live CDs and his killer piano player, Ray Kennedy.

P.S. I just got done reading the section on tuning on your music
page. Very interesting stuff. Thanks!

quieter...

Yeah, that used to be one of my fears but I found that people really
