Story: Just William

Will just being… Will.

This just turned up in my head – something from when Will was still
very young and just learning the ropes. A passing tale about one
evening in a young vampire’s harum-scarum life.

Story: Butterfly Catchers

A story about obsession, about love and what it means to be a father,
a mentor, a teacher. And about music.

I had wanted for a long time to write a story about Angelus hunting,
but also about his relationship with the church. This is the result.

Story: Hougoumont
On the eve of the Battle of Waterloo a young officer and a vampire must prepare
themselves for what is to come. - This story was inspired by the challenge
banner created by Little Miss Bossy for the Writercon UK Midimeet 2007
Artwork/Fiction challenge, she wanted to see Angelus meeting with Captain John
Wyndham-Price at the Battle of Waterloo.

Essay: You need to learn: Giles in BTVS Season Seven
When we first see Giles in Season Seven he is cast in what for the viewer is a
very traditional role – as advisor and tutor to Willow, teaching her to
control and use her power, indeed she even describes him as ‘Dumbledore’
(BTVS 7-1 – Lessons). However, from Giles point of view, is this simply a
natural continuation of his traditional role as Buffy’s watcher, and is it at
all what he wants to be doing? Giles story throughout the season will be one of
exploring and testing both his identity as a watcher, and as a man who has
ceased to be a watcher.

Essay: A Class Apart
Somebody asked me about class in England a few days ago, and really the answer
is too complex for a simple comment, so here, for the general amusement of all,
is my summary of the British class system and how it works, and how it might be
relevant when writing Buffy fics.

Essay: The Obstructed View – Spike and Darla’s Hidden Relationship
When one starts to consider the possible relationship between Spike and Darla it
becomes immediately obvious that there is one huge stumbling-block – the near
absence of any interaction between them in the whole canon. Two-hundred and
fifty-four episodes and we have a grand total of four scenes where they are both
onscreen.

Essay: I just got so bored – School Hard re-examined
Spike is the ADD vampire, the impetuous one who gets bored at the drop of a
stake. We know this – the whole fandom seems to agree upon it, so it must be
true. And as always when faced with a nice juicy bit of fanon I can’t resist
ripping it open to dissect the guts. So, just tossing the idea out there –
when are there actual examples of Spike getting bored?

Essay: I Can Explain - Spike in 'As You Were'
As You Were is a complex episode, frequently described as a big mess, but I
think with a little thought it is possible to make sense of that mess and make
at least some sensible guesses as to what was going on. For me, as a Spike fan,
the real question of interest is was Spike the Doctor and just how much did he
know about the eggs. Is he an innocent dupe or a criminal mastermind? Thanks to

Hi all,

I know I've been quiet for a while but I have just completed the
biggest possible rehash of Peasant's Plot. Features include the return
of The Gate with all my essays, rants, theories and eccentricities
easily available in one place. There are also search features to help
you find what you want easily and a new Updates page and RSS feed to
help you keep track of what is new.

The other good news is that I am writing again and if all goes well
there should be a new story some time in the next couple of months.
After which I will try to complete some of my long delayed WIPs.

Best wishes for a happy new year,

Peasant

The Tsunami Appeal Fic

To try to raise some money for those who have suffered so terribly
from the Tsunami, like many others I am writing a new story. If you
haven't heard, lots of people are doing this in fandom and the going
rate is $10 of donation for 1000 words. My story will be posted one
chapter at a time with (hopefully) people donating in exchange for
the chapters as I go. To date, Indri, Dovil and Witling have all
given money, making four chapters in all paid for so far. They
requested historical Angelus/William with one or two optional
special requests which I will try to work in but I won't force it.

What I'm hoping is that other people will be willing to step up and
pay for further chapters. Donate $10 for a chapter to the Red Cross
( http://www.redcross.org.uk/donate ) or other Tsunami Appeal
charity of your choice and let me know.

Since this is for charity I am also going to put out an honesty box
for all readers - even if you can't afford a whole chapter, if you
read this story please give something more to the appeal. It can be
as little as one penny/cent/whatever dropped in a box next time you
pass one, but give *something*.

And I have one final request: if you do rec this anywhere (say's
Peasant, arrogantly) please pass on the details about the charity
donation. The aim of this game is to raise money.

With profuse thanks to Herself, Chase and Avidrosette for the
excellent beta.

******************************************

As a WIP I am posting the chapters on my LiveJournal as they are
completed, the full story will be posted to Peasant's Plot when it
is finished. I will announce each chapter though, so you will know
when to look.
The chapter index on LiveJournal will be here:

(If the above link does not work because it has a line break, please
check you have selected the whole link from 'http' to '=all' then
copy and paste into your browser address bar.)

I hope you all enjoy the story.

Miracles can seemingly happen because I just updated the Plot. I
have added all the stories I have written that are fit for public
consumption, so once again the Plot now has everything in one place.
Most of the new additions are short things that have previously been
on my LiveJournal. One or two (mostly drabbles) are completely new.

I've also updated the layout and colour scheme for the first time in
three years.

Hope you all enjoy it.

I have just updated Peasant's Plot, and made some important changes
that will make my own life much more convenient, but mean that I
have had to change the location of several pages. So if you link to
anywhere on Peasant's Plot other than the main home page then the
chances are I just broke your links.

Note: This change does not affect the main home page.

The most important change is that the gate will now be found at:
ficbitch.com/peasants_plot/gate/

With all it's subsidiary pages altered accordingly. So for
example 'The History of the Aurelian Vampires' is now at:
ficbitch.com/peasants_plot/gate/HistoryOfTheAurelianVampires.html

Finally, 'Sweet William' and 'Wild Demonic Fauna' no longer have
their own front pages – they are linked directly from the index page
just like all the other stories:
ficbitch.com/peasants_plot/SweetWilliam.html
ficbitch.com/peasants_plot/WildDemonicFauna.html

I have put up a few redirect pages, but not all of them, (and these
won't stay around forever or it will negate the point of me making
the changes!) so please check your links manually.

I apologise for the disruption. Think of it as the all-important
spur you needed to check all your offsite links. <G>

From time to time I just get very silly and write something daft.
This seems to be one of those times. Mildly inspired by the quite
extraordinary amount of clutter the Victorians kept in their drawing-
rooms.

Summary: Four vampires, one kitten, and what can only be described
as a lot of highly improbable fortuities.

Ladies and gentlemen, Peasant is proud to present (at long last) a
new story:

Green Fairy

To be found at http://www.ficbitch.com/peasants_plot/GoodFairy.html

Victorian stories have something of an obsession with people drinking
absinthe. Ah, absinthe! La Fee Verte - the green fairy, the
opalescent liquor, the verdant demon, a swirling fog of mesmeric
imagery leading us into a whirlpool of decadence. Except that in
England the average man was far more likely to feel the wrath of the
temperance movement, or Blue Ribboners as they were derisively known,
just for taking a few glasses of beer, than to ever come across
absinthe. But who am I to buck a trend?

Summary: As everyone learns at Nanny's knee: you should never, ever
mix your drinks.

Spoilers: Crush.
Canon: any.
Statistics: May-June 2003; 60 KB; 8,327 words.
Content: PG-13

And for those who insist on knowing - the warnings (which I would
rather you didn't read but if you must you must):
--------------
Will/Drusilla implied; implied violence, including some against
children; strong language; the imbibing of intoxicating liquor. And
cake.
--------------

With many thanks to Wiseacress for whomping it with a carpet-beater
until the fluff flew off. She can of course not be held responsible
for all the fluff I have put back in since she last saw it.

Please note that this is not the long thing I have been promising for
ages, that's... coming. Sometime.

I've just added some new things to The Gate. Of note are a discussion
about Spike and Angel's relative heights and an explanation of The
Well Tempered Clavier for those who don't know about it. There is
also a long essay on techniques of writing historical fan fiction.
This was originally written for the BTVS Writers' Guild Darla and
Angelus Zone site, which asked me to contribute, but I thought I
would stick it up here as well. I have taken down the rant entitled
Do Your Homework since now there is a more positive essay it is
rather superfluous to complain about bad habits somewhere else as
well. Plus, on reflection, it struck me as a bit mean.

In other news: I continue my quest for the exact CSS definition for
displaying the ~:~:~ chapter breaks that will make me happy. It
passes the time when I can't be bothered to write. Oh and I mended a
couple of broken links. If anyone knows of any more, please do tell
me.
