They did a fairly good job with the 12 inch diecast/plastic Eagles (though hard
core detail oriented people had issues with decal placement and minor paint
color issues and such) as far as display models go. I would have made them all
die cast like the old Dinky Eagles, but the PE models werent meant to be played
with like toys.

I did buy all of the 12 inch ones - at least 1.

Standard Eagle
Rescue Eagle
Freighter Eagle
Laboratory Eagle
Laboratory Eagle Gift Set with Laser tank/moon buggy
VIP Eagle

Of the special edition ones I did buy one of the Chrome plated eagles but passed
on the 22K gold plated one in special red velet coffin box. Those sold for
almost $200 retail including shipping if I recall. Too pricey at the time for
just 1.

But they never made a 12" Hawk and sadly it doesnt appear one will be made by
the company PE turned into (now called Sixteen12.com). Not having a Hawk in
there is like a smile with a missing tooth. The Hawk was only in 1 episode but
it was my sentimental favorite and I hope if they reimagine Space 1999 they will
include both Hawks and Eagles in the Moonbase fleet.

Sixteen12.com (what that name refers to, I have no idea) did reissue the Eagle
and Rescue 12 inch eagles, but now they have moved into extremely high priced
larger models. Twice the size at 10 times the price! The Mark IX Hawk - 19"
model - will sell for an insane $825 in US dollars including shipping for a run
of only 200. I bought most of my PE Eagles for around $65 including shipping.
At that price $825 for just 1 Hawk would buy me an entire fleet of 12 Eagles!
And since it would be 1 single piece (no removable passenger module) it would be
easier to produce.

From what Ive read they say production costs have gone up and blame it on
Chinese manufacturers. China is the cheapest place to make things! How can
costs have gone up to the point where a model less than twice as large as the
original 12" Eagle, now costs 12 times as much? Even if I could find 19" Hawk
for 50% off at $400 - I couldnt justify spending that much - even $200 would be
a stretch for most people. What the heck is wrong with those people? Why didnt
they just issue a 12" Hawk at a lower price in line with the old Eagles. Even
at say $95 a piece, alot more people are going to be willing to buy at least 1 -
many a full fleet of 3 for a WARGAMES reenactment. They could have even made an
all white version (shown on Card #22 of the 1976 Donruss set) and a screen
version (with orange detailing used in the episode). Now issuing large model
special editions like an Ultra Probe or the Bomber from War Games for $200-$300
would have made a bit of sense.

Starting in 2007 I began a 2 year remodeling project on my house and didnt pay
much attention when Product Enterprise morphed into Iconic Reproductions which
then turned into Sixteen12 (or Space 1999 much at all). So, when I started
looking into the possibility of a 12" Hawk, I was annoyed to see that the odds
of it happening are probably zero. Trying to sell overprice larger models
doesnt make business sense in the current economi climate. $825 for a single
Hawk? If they keep trying that business model they will be filing for
bankruptcy. I still have old cheap plastic AIRFIX and MPC models. I guess they
will have to do.

Hi all,

Anyone catch the movie Moon on DVD (or theaters)? It was in limited theatrical
release, but the DVD seems to be in wide release.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the movie!

I saw it at the ArcLight here in Los Angeles. Great film. A science fiction film
to take people to who don't like science fiction. A real human drama set on the
Moon.  Coincidentally, I bought the DVD of this film and watched it last night.

It loses a little in re-viewing because you know what's going on. When I saw it
for the first time, my mind was fully engaged in trying to put all the pieces
together. Still, a great film!

Well, I started watching Farscape to catch Nick Tate in his role, but only just
found out he isn't in until season four, but I must say I've fallen in love with
the series. What an excellent sci-fi show! Like Space 1999, you don't get all
the pure, exact science, so you must just 'believe'. I love the characters.
Worth a view IMHO :)

I saw Moon at the theater when a local (arty) theater finally got a copy. I
thought it was an excellent film. It had me guessing what was going on for the
longest time. I thought Sam Rockwell put in a brilliant performance, and the
special effects were very good for an independent film. I ordered a copy the
other day and look forward to seeing it again. It should be interesting since,
as Chris-Leo mentioned, I will know what is happening this time. But I believe
it will still hold up.

Ken -

I was one of the poor folks that was left out in the cold... The limited
release only put it in one local theatre and it didn't stick around very long.
The next thing I knew, it was gone and I had been waiting eagerly for Moon to
arrive in theatres.

When Moon came out on DVD, I went looking for it right away. The local Best Buy
had sold out of the copies they had, although their inventory said they should
have had 4 copies left on the shelves. I went to Target, which was close by,
but they didn't have it in the store at all. I went to a local music shop that
sells CDs and DVDs - they happened to have only one copy of the DVD on their
shelves. Both the clerks at the counter seemed a bit surprised they had a copy,
as both had wanted to see it.

I rarely buy a film on DVD without even seeing it, but my patience was my
reward. I really enjoyed this film. It seemed to harken back to the Sci-Fi
films of the 70's like Silent Running, where they had a good character story in
a Sci-Fi setting, without relying too heavily on visual effects to keep the
audience interested. No explosions, no schlock, just good solid acting and a
fairly good story. I also enjoyed the 2001-like story pacing as well as the
combination of miniatures and CGI that were used in the effects.

I wound up watching the DVD twice so far and I plan on giving it another look in
a week or so - I also need to watch the extras as I haven't seen any of them
yet.

It's not a blockbuster, but a larger release might have helped in terms of box
office sales and a larger audience exposure. If I hadn't heard about this film
online, I never would have known about it.

Later mates,
Bryan

A little name-dropping here. Duncan Jones, the director and writer, is David
Bowie's son. You just know that one day there'll be a double feature of The Man
Who Fell to Earth and Moon.

We had a new Prime Minister in 1997 talking of 'education' and all they've done
since is lower the bar so more people pass, giving only te impression of more
success. Employers complain that youngsters are not equipped for employment. I
don't normally like conspiracy theories but this suggests a government that
doesn't want people to think for themselves. If anyone's ever seen 'The General'
episode of the Prisoner, that's it in a nutshell. People may know 'when' and
'who' but not 'why'.

About the ONLY thing I can say is positive about the youth of today is the
practice of racism is not on their agenda. They are much more tolerant.
Sorry, but when I was a 20-something, I was at least twice as smart as these
kids...Probably their most negative trait is that they are desensitized to
the plight of those around them. They really are quite self-involved.

Hello...

As detection methods improve, eventually they will find a planet very similar to
earth orbiting some distant star, or as a moon of one of those gas giants in
orbit around another star.

I wish we had a ship like the Meta Probe (not interstellar, but still having
considerable flight range). Does anyone have a model or replica of it?

Jim

My hope was that any re-make would combine "Space:1999" & "UFO". They are
"related" after all. It would make sense because that way, Alpha would be armed
when the Moon gets blasted out of orbit. Alas, all we're getting is a "UFO"
remake ("UFO:2020").

Sucky as the "Thunderbirds" film was, the one thing I really liked about it was
the producers were relatively faithful to the look & designs of the TV show
(unlike the much crappier "Lost In Space" film). Hopefully, the producers of
"UFO:2020" (and, hopefully, a re-make of "Space:1999") will retain the look of
those TV series as well...

I was really hoping something on the remake front would emerge around 1999.
Maybe the next chance will be when and if NASA returns to the Moon to build the
first Moonbase. They could call it --- ALPHA. Last I heard they are trying for
2019, but the speed at which America is headed towards bankruptcy, it would have
to be multinational effort. On Space 1999 they had the International Lunar
Finance Commission - maybe they could call it that?

If they do a remake, hopefully they make the base look basically the same,
except for upgrades to the computers. Keep the Eagles - thats a must. This time
add some Mark IX Hawks and missiles and shields to defend the base.

I was hoping the Syfy Network might do something with it the way they did with
Galactica, but these days Syfy, after the name change, seems to be more
interested in crappy made for Syfy monster movies, reality shows and even
(argh!!) ECW Wrestling!

I still dream about SPACE: 2099 - if they finally do it, I hope some of the
old cast will still be alive and available for guest spots. But they are aging
rapidly. I guess we just have to see.

Hello,

I loved the 12 inch Product Enterprise Eagles and collected one of each, too. I
was lucky enough to purchase a 23-inch standard Eagle replica (at a very good
price) and it is nice, but I am still very sorry to see the Product Enterprise
size Eagles go in place of larger and more expensive pieces. For me, storage and
display of very large collectibles is also problematic, and expense is an issue.

It would have been terrific if there could have been more ships (like a Hawk) in
scale and in a price range with the "Space 1999" Eagles (12 inch size). I think
they were the nicest, ready to display pieces I've seen.

Perhaps we will see more affordable collectibles in the future, or when economic
conditions are more favorable for all.

Hello...

I was wondering if there was a problem or change that I was not aware of in
connection with posting messages. I see the last posted message was December
25th and there have been no additional messages on the site (at least that I can
view). Is there an upgrade or other change necessary that I would need to make,
or is there a site issue? The OnlineAlpha group is very interesting, and I hope
all is ok.

Thanks...

I think Zoref is more likely to win. Mateo only got his powers from plants. But
Zoref got his powers from a seemlingly indestructable space entity. That's my
guess anyway.

>

the company PE turned into (now called Sixteen12.com).
>
>
>
> Starting in 2007 I began a 2 year remodeling project on my house and didnt
pay much attention when Product Enterprise morphed into Iconic Reproductions
which then turned into Sixteen12 (or Space 1999 much at all).
>

Hello.
I loved them, too, and collected them as well as a 23 inch prop of the standard
Eagle, which I bought at a good price last year...The Hawk would have sold big
(one in scale with the 12 inch Eagles). It would have been terrific to see other
"Space 1999" models...a Meta Probe, the space platform, some alien ships and so
on. I am thinking about building an AMT/ERTL kit I have and did not build
initially.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with your opinion about the current youth of today
not being lazy, intellectually-speaking. You are in surroundings where you are
undoubtedly surrounded by the best & the brightest. I'm talking about the "kid
in the street" (assuming they ever abandon their computers & video games, that
is). I was discussing this with some of my older co-workers..."older" meaning
ages 35 to 60. We did an improptu IQ quiz with the 20-somethings who work here,
which is the vast majority.

We asked them who was the current President of the USA. No problem there, they
all knew it. However, HALF of them did not know who the Vice President was, even
if you mentioned his name. Further, they ALL knew who the last president was,
but NONE of them knew the name of the President who came before Bush, Jr.!

We also asked them the address of the White House. Not ONE of them knew the
answer! Some even thought there were between 51 & 52 states in the USA!! They
thought Washington DC & Puerto Rico were states & at least half were suprised to
find out that Hawaii is NOT a foreign country!

All of these people graduated High School so, we are left with three
possibilities. Either they weren't paying attention in class (the questions we
asked were things I learned in first grade), they forgot (meaning technology is
rotting their brains) or they're stupid. Considering the state of most public
schools in this country, graduating students who read at a 4th grade level, any
or all are possible.

When I was in first grade, I vividly recall the assassinations of Martin Luther
King, Jr.& Robert Kennedy, the riots, the Viet Nam War ("the what war"?) & the
election landslide of President Nixon & the Apollo 8 mission around the Moon. I
was 6 years old. My 13 year old nieces, who do NOT have access to the things
most kids consider necessary to their exsistence, are twice as smart as the
people I work with & they are home schooled!

I don't know what part of the country you live in or even if you DO live in the
USA but, where I live (the USA's northeast coast) these kids just don't give a
damn about using their brains & their ability to retain information is extremely
lacking.

Wow, I don't check this board very often and look what I find.

I am a adjunct at a public college teaching a core curriculum music class.
Most of my students come to class knowing almost nothing about classical music
or jazz (The same can be said for most adults in the US, but I digress. While
there is way too much dependence on technology, this is not a lazy generation.
Technology in and of itself is not an evil, it is how it is used. I have many
students working full time jobs and going to school full time while supporting
familes and commuting to school. They are able to use on onelijne resources to
do research and listening at home that would otherwise take many hours in the
librart. Many of them have had inadequate educations and are working hard to
learn. Lumping all 20 somethings together is a closed minded and ignorant thing
to do.

And quite honestly, the problem with over use of technology is just as bad with
30 to 50 year olds. I was at rehearsal yesterday (I am a proffesional musician)
and my stand partner couldn't take her eyes off her blackberry or whatever it
was to reead her email. The concert master was doing the same thing. It is an
addiction.

Last I heard, it's starring the young guy who's the lead in "Fringe". He was
also in the first "Urban Legend" flick as well as a horror movie about
werewolves with Christina Ricci. His name escapes me at the moment but, he's
been signed to play Colonel Paul Foster. It's supposed to start filming later
this year with a summer 2011 or early 2012 release & the title, tentatively is
"UFO: 2020". Good enough for ya?

   Thanks Mateo.

Anyone else see this? Let us know your thoughts!

BTW, anyone hear about the new UFO movie in pre-production?

I saw it at the ArcLight here in Los Angeles. Great film. A science fiction
film to take people to who don't like science fiction. A real human drama set
on the Moon. Coincidentally, I bought the DVD of this film and watched it last
   night.

It loses a little in re-viewing because you know what's going on. When I saw
it for the first time, my mind was fully engaged in trying to put all the
pieces together. Still, a great film!

   Mateo

   Hi all,

Anyone catch the movie Moon on DVD (or theaters)? It was in limited theatrical
release, but the DVD seems to be in wide release..

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the movie!

   Anthony

Never heard of it. What's the basic plot?

P.S. Anyone on here heard from "Chris Taylor" of late?

It was a great show. Too bad it never got renewed. The mini series gave it a
nice send off. Some shows never get the chance that Farscape got.

God Bless,
Arlette

Hi all,

Sorry - my co-moderators and I let slip our duty to "approve" messages for
posting. All new messages are held up so as to prevent spam. No one is
"censored" - I did delete one or two messages that were not relevant and of
course spam.

We should be on track and back up to date.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi.....I'm new to this forum thing...hope I'm doing it right......never done it
before today....BUT wanted to say hi to you all. I've been reading your
'threads' and messages for awhile now and decided to take the plunge!

Space 1999 must never be allowed to fade from our lives.....it's too important.

For most of my life I've had no-one to share it with....but finding you all on
the web has been brilliant.

Thank you all for being there........

Unfortunately, it seems employers in the USA, at least those that own
manufacturing & service enterprises, have resigned themselves to the fact that
most high school graduates today are not capable of "original & creative
thinking". Sadly, this means the advance of technology will slow down (not
necessarily a bad thing since most of the people over here don't know how to use
the technology presently available to them) as will the world of the arts. A
great example of the latter is this: How many truly "original" films have come
out of Hollywood in the past twenty years? Most are re-makes, re-imaginings &
rip-offs. If you've seen "Avatar" & "Dances With Wolves", you'll understand what
I mean.

We had a new Prime Minister in 1997 talking of 'education' and all they've
done since is lower the bar so more people pass, giving only te impression of
more success. Employers complain that youngsters are not equipped for
employment. I don't normally like conspiracy theories but this suggests a
government that doesn't want people to think for themselves. If anyone's ever
seen 'The General' episode of the Prisoner, that's it in a nutshell. People may
know 'when' and 'who' but not 'why'.
