Space:2099 is a pretty good title (and close enough to the
original)....Setting the series almost 80 years in the future is a
good move too (considering we "may" have a moonbase by 2025-ish and
it "may" not end up being as "inaccurate" as the original series
turned out to be, when that time comes upon us).

I've always said "Moonbase Alpha" is a workable title for a remake
series.

I see nothing wrong with keeping the Space: 1999 title in any remake of the show
because (1) it's fiction and therefore is not required to follow real life
exactly and (2) there would've a moonbase in 1999 in real life if the NASA
budget hadn't been needless slashed the way it had. Besides, if current trends
continue, there WON'T be a moonbase in real life in 2099.

I m prety much hooked on 1999 but I m hella fasinated by parallel universes and
the year 1999 fits right in to that.

For, a bit of fun now the year 1999 has been and gone...if Space 1999
the series was reimagined and brought back what year should it be set
in? What title year roles off your tongue? Examples below.....

Space 2022, Space 2037, Space 2045,Space 2047, Space 2049 Space
2050,Space 2062, Space 2065 Space 2067,, Space 2069,Space 2072, Space
2075, Space 2079, Space 2085, Space 2089, Space 2092, Space 2095,
Space 2099

Rules are simple you can have any date within the C21st....2099 is
available but we have recently had a group offer us Space 2099 so i
tend to think that year is out of bounds and cheating some. So if
people want to take part should offer up another year! You can have
any year from now till the end of the century......

I suggest make the date latter in the C21st simply to allow for the
idea that techology/moonbases etc..stand a distance chance of being a
reality...............It is just a pitty that i do not have softwear
that would allow me to take the Space 1999 title graphic and see how
some of the these years would look if designed like the orginal

Well, the first one that rolls out is Space2020, but we won't even
have a SeaLab by then, let alone a moonbase.
Maybe Space2069 would work and have a line in the opening something like
"In 1969 Man first visited the Moon, in 2069, he moved in!" - of
course, have Martin Landau voice it.
Then have some great energetic theme like the original.
My 2cents.

I, must admit i like that.....I will admit to a slight alterior
motive
to this post and that is if i can visualise and bring into existence
my
ideas for a Space 1999 type Action figure concept to bring to series
back to life, which lets be in the full understanding that sets will
have to be built etc...that anything put togather will not see the
light of day in a completed form till the latter part of next year. I
am concerned about possible seen copyrite infringement etc. Now,
copyrite in the UK as I understand it at least means that an item
only
has to be 10% or 15% different of the original to be a different item
less it has had patients taken out on this or that item!

To that end i have been playing arround with concepts and craft names
and if you lost or choose not to use the word Eagle what name ...bird
of prey exists and in this house at least the name 'Kestral' seems to
work quite well
'Come in Ketral 6' Control Centre went quite again..as the
montotone voice of the controller tried to contact the now lost
craft!!'

I have a story of my own that feature a space fighter called 'The
Last
hawk' which if names changed would have to see that crafts name
changed
too...but currently that is lacking a name but the craft is pretty
much
designed now has a crew of four and a rear gun turret a midships. I
have ideas as how i want to Computer Storeage area to look, Medical
Addmissons etc.

Althoughg someone writes call a series'Moonbase Alpha!' it does quite
have the hitting power of Space: the final fronteer...Space
2069...that roles of the tongue etc. Moonbase Alpha says to me
excatly what to those not knowing what we talk about here or are a
casual viewer with a distant memory of a Gerry Anderson series. We
live in an age were everything is being dumbed down because people
inteigenc seems to be getting lower or their attention span at least
if an items is not full of flashing lights etc....so based on
that 'Moonbase Alpha' sounds pretty tame to me where as space
2069...2075...79..89 etc...has more force and impact....if you are
going to go with Moonbase in the title then call it Moonbase
One...roles of the tongue better and has more force behind it....Sorry

That is very sad news! I love the music of both seasons of Space: 1999
so much, and from what interviews and such I have read and seen, Derek Wadsworth
seemed a lovely man. My thoughts go out to his family at this sad time.

In the wake of this sad news, I felt moved to do something in tribute to
Wadsworth since his music had provided me so many hours of enjoyment.? I had
remembered a while back considering a little?video project.? In the scene in
"The Metamorph" where Mentor is attempting to drag the Eagle down to Psychon,
Wadsworth had written some music which wound up getting left out.? I suppose
they had concerns about music competing with thundering Eagle engine sound
effects.

The music did get used in other episodes.? But I thought it would be interesting
to add?it back?so that we might experience the scene as Derek intended.

Just looked Derick Wordsworth up on IMBD which i rely on for my stars
information and apparently it lists Wordsworth as a performer on
Epiosde 2 season 2 of the BBC life on Mars which i know has been
picked up in the states and refilmed only with Colin Memey(Mile
O'Brian)in the role of Gene Hunt...but i don't know whether the
American version has been transmitted yet?

It occurred to me how many human deep space probes did the Alphans come
across in their odyessy? The reason for my post was me wondering what
other outpost of human existence survive Breakaway? I mean is their a
base on Mars? Having watched Breakaway this week.....their is the Mars
Satilight and is or was their a basic crew on the Metaprobe when the
Centuri space dock is destroy'd that could of taken or regained control
of the spacecraft or is it derstroy'd

We had Astro 7, Ultra, Uranus and Meta as well as Voyager II What ever
the probe was called that Brian the Brain was involved to Planet
D...Their is or was something in Venus orbit as mentioned in one
episode name escapes me right now but what has always been a curious
point to me is when Bergman mentions The Ark in Mission of the
Darrians...is this a Space Probe or what?

The Ark Bergman mentioned was Noah's. As to the Venus Space Station and
the Moars satellite, you have good points. People must have survived,
there.

What was the Moars satlight and when is it mentioned?

The other thought that crossed my mind is if it came to bringing back
S1999 and if developing or playing with the original concept is 'out
of bounds' as it were...then surely there might be some story based
on other survivors...

From what we know of the series we have a crew of some sort in
Venrusian ortbit..a possible base on Mars and the Metra probe. As, i
see it we have a crew in Venus orbit whom deside they want to attempt
to go home...knowing that resources are not endless.

The space station although not designed for space flight as such is
of such a design that it has propulsion of somesort that is
engineered that the crew believe a slow tragetory that using gravity
assistance from other planets will take them back to Earth.

That assistance is using Mars as a sling shot effect or a place for a
mid course correction point that will also allow them to investigate
and pick up surplies on the Marsian base to continue homeward.

Along the way they bump into the Meta probe...and getting to Mars
they find a crew who have decided to stay and make the best of it on
Mars...

Problem with this idea is there is then no allowence for a new alien
civerlisation or culture each week...Okay, City of long or not so
long dead aliens on Mars become possible but that is about it!
Problem with this idea is it becomes more about survival and coping
with one another over having Aliens to deal with.. Okay the planet
Meta could come a calling past as a rogue planetoid i believe it is
implied it is, but this then surely becomes about survival which is
what links 1999 and Galatica so togather but this becomes surely
about getting on with other groups of humans who are in certain
circumstances prepared to kill to stay alive.

Would, this go against what 1999 was with its existential plots and
ideas of series I.. I think so?

Thoughts

Here is a scince question for someone on the creation of artifishal
gavity in space? In Babylon 5 earthforce ships have a rotating
midships
section that gives some form of gravity! Would what gravity that is
created only then be present in the rotating part of the ship or
would
this rotating part be enough to create gavity that is then ship wide?

While on the subject of gavity does any one have any feeling on the
internal construction of the Spacedock(Centuri Space Dock)In short do
the units of the station rotate independantly to give someform of
artifishal gravity or are just ridgid...I am trying to work out
whether
there is someform of hollow core which is without gravity and acts as
the means to transport between section which people just float from
section to section as needed. If the station is made up of inderviual
rotaing sections this would then allow scientific experment in a zero
g
enviroment still to be carried out if need by stopping that section
rotating!

While on Spacedock..anyone any thoughts on how many crew it? If you
wotk under the name of Centuri Space station given to it by starlog
then a squadron of Hawks is based there somewhere

We'll ignore the fact that the Ultra probe had it from
somewhere...although i suppose that an inner core could rotate with a
core insie that in some fashion to give somesort of gavity..After all
Bergman in Black sun talks about gravity being created on Alpha by
using them to create the Bergman forcefield

The artficial gravity is in reality just centrifugal force.? So it would only be
present in the rotating section.? The "gravity" would diminish as you ascended
toward the spin axis of the rotating section, and would not exist at all in any
non-rotating section.

Artificial gravity in shows like SPACE: 1999, Star Trek, etc. is generated via
magic.? By that I mean some technology which bears no relationship to any aspect
of reality.

By the way, the futurist Gerard O'Neill thought that someday millions of people
would live long-term with centrifugal force substituting for gravity:

In the new year when time allows i want to return to looking at
making S1999 uniforms again primarly with the view to making them for
12inch tall figures....When i do so i will try to take/plan some
photo's that show what the uniform Tunic top looks like when it is a
basic set of pieces before it is stitched togather.

I may also have a look at making some new uniforms for me because I
have yet to make a definative 1999 uniform...To do that i need to
make the right sleeve as one with the tunk(chest)

This will be three sets of pictures for the photo's section
One is season one in which the right sleeve is cut as one with the
chest and the left colour'd sleeve is cut seperate

Two will be season two which is my prefered way of making which is to
cut and make and then stitch both left and right sleeves on to the
chest /tunk of the costume

Three. This is the challenge and the one i want to attempt the most.
As said the front of the tunic was cut into four parts re-stitched
togather and lines of piping then cover the seam line. If, you where
an extra...you just got stitch lines stitched direct onto the cloth
without any attempt to tailor the garment buy using these four
panels. However, as i understand it the upper chest panel section was
still attached to the right sleeve that the challenge will be to cut
the item as such and then stitch it all togather.

I don't know for sure...but i am left to believe the the back could
also be done in two sections with an upper shoulder yoke and another
pice for the back with the piping lines once more hiding the seam
stitch line.....

So watch this space

As is so often the case, the version of LOM we're seeing in the States
is not the original British series, but an Americanized remake.
Fortunately, I did get to see a few episodes of the original on BBC
America just before ABC premiered their remake in October. Many of the
episodes, though, are almost shot-for-shot re-creations of their BBC
counterparts, but set in New York. It's a little more action-oriented
than the BBC version, and often seems to try to re-create, or at least
pay homage to, the look of classic '70s cop shows like "Starsky &
Hutch". The BBC version seems to be a bit more cerebral than the
American remake, with Sam Tyler spending much more time examining and
fretting over his situation than in the American remake, where those
science fictional elements are often downplayed almost to the point of
dismissal. Instead, they tend to play it for laughs, as in one episode
where Sam Tyler runs into singer/songwriter Jim Croce at a nightclub
and warns him to avoid flying in small planes on his upcoming tour.
Croce died in September of 1973 when the small plane in which he was a
passenger crashed on takeoff at a rural Louisiana airport.

Colm Meaney is not in the American version of the series. Gene Hunt is
played to manic perfection by Harvey Keitel, who manages to take the
role just shy of over-the-top and makes the show work in its New York
locale.
