Hi everyone,

How about using the chat room for one of Colleen's live run-throughs of
Space:1999 episodes? I was in on one (Breakaway) and it was great! We used
ICQ, but maybe members would find it easier to use the egroups facilites
they've already got?

Cheers,

What a wonderful sentiment and I share it.

I am Chris Paulsen, born on a large rance in Northern California (wine
country), had no TV reception as a child (house in a small private valley)
and watched Space (from second episode on) at sister's house in nearby town.
I was 11.

Went to first two cons, dropped out, became involved in Intl. Space Alliance,
dropped out, helped organized Breakaway here in L.A. (where I now live), and
am working on MainMission. Hope I don't drop out again.

I hope to be with all of you similarly-aged people for a long time.

I'm excited about this new Online Alpha list. It's a fresh start with new
people and I'm very much looking forward to everyone's posts.

Allow me a brief introduction....figured that's a good thread to start with.

Colleen Bement in Colorado, USA. Age? Well, I'll leave it up to your
imagination with a hint that I was 13 when I become hopelessly hooked on
Space:1999. It shall always be my favorite show now matter how old I get.
I'm actually hoping to be still chatting with my Alphan friends in to our
90's!

Other interests:

My family....married and 1 wonderful 6 year old daughter whom I'm slowing
corrupting on science fiction.

Not able to make it to Main Mission 2000. However, I'll be at the upcoming
Tampa, FL con in 2001.

Looking forward to meeting those members I haven't had the pleasure of
meeting from the other list.

Hello all,

It seems to be nice place here at Egroups.

Regarding the lost postings, I have nearly every message from 97 until
now (some have disappeared, some got lost etc.) but most of them are on
my harddisk.

So if someone wants to publish them/needs them, please let me know.

Hi gang

Firstly, this is a test to see if my first posting to the "new" list goes
through okay.

Secondly, a point of interest for those who are new to the Egroups list
server: It has many cool functions, one of which is the ability to fill in a
complete profile of yourself - and then have it displayed in the Members
Secion of OnlineAlpha's homepage at Egroups for other list members to read.
(That is, if you want to).

The list moderators are far more qualified than me to tell you how to set up
your personal password to access "our" page at Egroups (if you don't have
one already - it was automatic during the changeover for those like me who
were already registered with Egroups previously). But in the meantime, go to
www.egroups.com if you want to browse around.

Lastly, Anthony et al, any word yet regarding the future of the buffnet
email archive?

Take care,

Steven.

Anthony,

I was wondering if you or anyone else had seen any
post(s) from me last weekend. They were regarding the
change over of the list, but I never saw them in my
mail. I use to see my own posts, but the last couple
"disappeared."

I was just wondering if maybe I was being
filtered/censored by the infamous Kulic/Welle regiem,
as others had warned me about off-list.

thanks,

Ted

I was just looking over the subscriber list, Thanks Anthony for
getting all those names in place!

I'd also like to welcome everyone to Online Alpha as we collectively
turn a page in our internet Space 1999 fandom.

Unlike the fictional moonbase Alpha we CAN control our direction and
decide which worlds to visit. Lets make this a great, fun place for
everyone involved with Space 1999 fandom, keep it positive and keep
Space 1999 evergreen.

Hi all,

Welcome again to the new, improved and COMBINED "Online Alpha"
mailing list.

As we move forward with our new Online Alpha, I wanted to make
three things VERY clear.

   1) There is a new team of moderators here:

      Phil Merkel - captphil@...
      Doug Bailey - doug2000@...
      Anthony DiPietro - atd1999@...

Any list issues should be brought to the attention of one (or
all) of the moderators listed above.

Marcy Kulic is no longer on this mailing list and is NOT a
moderator.
Dave Welle is here, but is currently NOT a moderator.

   2) The new moderators will NOT tolerate the "hatred bashing" that
sometimes occurred on the buffnet mailing list. We are here to debate
IDEAS and NOT people! Any "hatred bashing" that occurs going forward
will be grounds for immediate "excommunication" from the
list. "Hatred bashing" includes but is NOT limited to the following:

-> calling another member 'stupid' or other deragotory names due
to the member's spelling ability or grammatical problems when posting
a message. None of us are genius' - we will ALL make mistakes when
posting.

-> making fun of another member due to that member's being in a
different economic class, ethnic culture, etc.

-> any other 'bashing' of a member.

AGAIN - we are here to debate IDEAS, not people!

Please keep all list discourse CIVIL. Thank you.

  3) Trolling is FORBIDDEN! For the purposes of this list 'trolling'
is defined as sending a message to the list SPECIFICALLY to "lead"
or "control" the discussion of the list. This includes, but is not
limited to, reviving DEAD topics constantly with the purpose
of "controlling" the list discussion.

Trolling is most definitely a judgement call on the part of the
list moderators and will be handled quickly so as to not get out of
hand.

Thanks for your attention.

Hi all!

   WELCOME!

I wanted to welcome everyone to the NEW home of Online Alpha
(space1999@...) AND Alpha1999 (alpha1999@...).

The former two Space:1999 lists run by Marcy and Dave have been
MERGED into ONE list known simply as "Online Alpha".

Please note - effective IMMEDIATELY, send ALL mail to:

      onlinealpha@egroups.com

The buffnet lists no longer work for all intents and purposes.
Please change your ADDRESS BOOKS to reflect this change!

There are MANY features to EGroups (our mailing list host service) -
including Chat, Files and Polls! It looks like someone has found our
Poll feature and has created a new Poll to start us off!

In the coming weeks, we will try to utilize the various features
available to us - but for now, you can now start posting using our
new e-mail address:

Hi,

I'm on vacation and catching up on email. The
Space:1999 list I was on just switched over to this
location and I wanted to say hi to people whose posts
I've been reading for years and to those I haven't yet
met. I might as well re-introduce myself to those
from the last list because I've been on LURK mode for
so long I might as well have left. :)

I'm a 37 year old female who lives in Florida, works
FT as a paramedic in an ER, goes to the University of
Florida and who hopes to become a physician assistant.

Space:1999, Star Trek, Mission:Impossible, and
Emergency! were some of my favorites when I was a
young adult. When I watch reruns of these shows I
remember some of what I felt and thought at that time.
I also get to see these shows through older eyes and
reinterpret the messages of the
creators/actors/writers in a more mature way. So, I
get more than just simple enjoyment when I watch a
show -- I get to revisit childhood in a way.

I'm going to be working FT and going to school close
to FT when Main Mission is going on in NY. I wish I
could go, but it's not money stopping me -- it's time.
I can't miss any work or school at that particular
time. I'm going to be very overloaded and working
through much of my sleep time as it is. However, I
really hope to attend the convention in FL next year.
If I miss that, well at least I've had years of
enjoyment on this list.

I can't wait to read the posts. I have high hopes of
finding the conversations just as interesting as they
were on the last list.

As for the debate over certain episodes being better
than the others or one season being better than the
other, I can't really add much. I have favorite
scenes in varying episodes. I think I can find
something to like about each episode (i.e. a guest
star, the music, the directing, the acting, a concept,
a special effect, etc). The same applies to each
season. I look at the whole concept of Space:1999
with pleasure (as well as the other favorites I listed
above).

I hope to contribute more to the future discussions,
however I don't find much time to watch the episodes I
have on tape so I'm not sure what I'll be able to
contribute. But I'll try.

Take care and have a great day.

Christina Horvath

I agree, and think this fact makes any fear of an archived version on CD-ROM
moot. What would it hurt to have this stuff on CD? I don't see how it
could be "misused", but even so, if someone wanted to misuse it they can
easily get it from the archive on the Net.

The archive Jenny directed me to at:

http://www.space1999.buffnet.net/space1999-digest.archive/

is only 5 MB in size...is that all there is to it? Or is there more
archived somewhere else?

Can you give my doug2000@... address moderator status, and
remove it from my dsbailey@... address? I plan on using the
knology.net address more often than the ingr.com address.

Thanks,

Doug

I couldn't resist jumping the gun and being the first to post here to
the new OnlineAlpha list. I'm glad to see it moved over to eGroups,
where I can access the list as well as GBA via the web from anywhere,
including my office. *Sigh.* How will I get ANY work done?

Matt!
