We now have nine voice's heard (including my own). In straight voting,
number 1 is slightly ahead. Concidering discussion of elements that are
liked vs those that aren't, number 1 is defintely ahead.

So I played, incorporating a couple of the recommended changes. Here is
#1, full sized with revisions. (Jean, I'll send it to you off list so
you don't have to search through the site)

Further discussion is STILL VERY WELCOME! You want the three boys, with
or without revision, argue your case. Hate the Chicago background,
again, say so. Haven't spoken up yet? Shame on you! Speak up!!! I'm
trying to get a feeling of general consensus here and I may not be
interpreting it right. Let's get a full scale debate going on this, guys
- this is Ride Forever after all, and that's part of what we're all
about! vbg!

Oy vey!! It is sooo hard to note in my digest (that doesn't have the
post number, just the date), then go to RF, Messages, Expand Messages
and scroll down until I find the post I'm looking for so I can click
on the attachment Janice sent.

(This exercise takes time from a digest size of +64)

Anyhooo, I really really like #1, if you can change "Page" to Archive. Logic:
1. It was to have taken place in Chicago and the skyline tells you that.
2. The Musical Ride figure is soooo apt.
3. It really *was* a series about a Mountie who first came to... The
Rays became integral to the episodes, but bottom line, it was about
Fraser in Chicago. Thus, if he is not shown, it conveys Chicago,
Mountie.
4. I'm sorry, but the pics of the 3 guys show them to have dorky
expressions on their faces. That is, their expressions do not convey
much of their personalities as played in the series.

For above reasons, I vote #1 of the excellent Janice work!

The voting so far as I figure it.

1 Laurie
2 M-A, Kali (w/rev)*, Elizabeth
3 Lucysmom, Janice (w/rev)

*with revisions

Now remember, we don't have to go with any of these, or I can alter
them. For instance, I can change Page to Archive or either 1 or 3
without problem. I can get rid of the Chicago background on 1 or 3. I
can get rid of the Musical Ride Mountie on 1 or 3 or I can add it to 2.
I can move the graphic to the other side of the banner. Or I can toos
them all and go with something completely different.

The only thing I'm not sure of (for Kali) is if I have a 2nd season pic
of Vecchio grinning at the camera... I'll have to dig again and see what
I find.

My vote is for #3 without the Chicago background but keeping the Musical
Ride Mountie. Vickie had an animated riding Mountie up on the old site
as I remember and it was something I thought we might keep. Course, I
can always use it in a linking banner or something instead...

Nothing's finalized here and I expect MORE VOTES and DISCUSSION! We have
24 people over on NRF, and I expect to hear from some more people. We're
going to have to look at this for a long time, so speak up!

No I don't mean on the stories, but on the archive itself! Do we need to
have a nice big '18+ ONLY' type message at the beginning of this?
Especially given that we archive NC-17 and NON-RATED fic? Are there any
legal requirements as long as we don't have porn pics?

Grin! Good thing I was paying attention or I might have had duck
droppings on my monitor! YUCK!

I've been playing while I waited for some input (I can't resist a good
pic challenge) and as it happens I went with this particular idea too.
Anyway, see the attached. It's not what I originally had in mind and I
can certainly toss it and offer up others if it's not what everyone
wants - but anyway. Here's a first idea for you all to think about. I
designed it for a 600 x 800 resolution page (which still seems to be the
standard)

Let me know what you all think.

Okay all, if you want a title banner for the list archive page, I need
some input. At present, the opinions expressed are to go fairly simple,
nothing to flashy, and my own opinion favors this. Keeping in mind the
background tiled graphic (RideForever diagonal in faded red 'gaze' font)
IF we go with this as a background, I'll use the same font for the title
banner/graphic, also in Red but not faded, naturally; and a graphic off
to one side of the banner. IF that much meets with approval, what I need
to know is exactly what you want text wise on the banner.

Okay, as it turns out, North American DVD won't be carrying Due South, so
I'm moving on to plan B (which is a very vague plan).

I've checked the prices at Chapters.ca, Amazon.ca, VideoFlicks, Badlands
Books, and a place called A&B Sound. Have I missed an obvious place to
check? Yahoo's directory isn't helpful, and Google doesn't seem to come up
with a lot of shopping hits. So far, Chapters and Amazon are winning with
$70.69 Canadian.

Oh, are there any good DVD places in either Windsor or Niagara
Falls? We'll be visiting my sister for the holidays, and I could probably
coerce the rest of the family into a side trip, but I'm not sure that would
be any cheaper than buying online.

At least the exchange rate for Canada isn't a killer. I'm also wanting
some stuff that can only be found in the UK, and the exchange rate
hurts. It looks like Amazon.uk has their prices in pounds instead of
Euros, which would be much nicer. :( Oh well. DH better like the
things, or I'll be irked. On the other hand, I can always resell the books
and make money - I can actually buy a new book from Amazon.uk and ship it
cheaper than I can buy a used copy here in the States.

Thanks, Janice for reminding me that I forgot to post that here as
well. Despite the fact that they don't show on the calendar, if you
select Messages on the left sidebar and then type in any number you
can retrieve the messages from 1-39717. Yahoo only knows why they
aren't listed, but they are still there.

If I remember right, this actually happened LONG ago - back durring the
change over from eGroups to Yahoo!Groups, I think. The same thing
happened to another list I was on but the mom there yelled at Yahoo and
got the missing messages back. Vickie was already AWOL then and... I
may not be exactly right on the time frame, but this did happen a log
time ago.

I never have checked to see accessability- but am glad to note

Yes, I had to delete Vicki's websites from my bookmarks. However, if
you look at the month by month number of posts at the bottom of the

You're welcome, Jean, but I have to clarify--Yahell is not the problem.
(Not this time!) Vicki's own websites on the currantbun server were the
ones that disappeared: her "not so secret" site, the list's homepage and
the list's fic archive. The Yahell message archive for the old list is
still complete and available, and will continue to be so as long as the
list remains open.

Another thing that prompted me to take action was something that
happened on my other "home on the web," a delightful site called
TelevisionWithoutPity.com. They recently purged their membership lists
by sending an e-mail to every registered user. If you didn't respond to
that e-mail, or if the e-mail bounced, your account would be deleted. I
have noticed that Vicki's current status in Yahoogroups is "bouncing,"
so I realized that if Yahell ever tried something like this, the list
might go "poof!"

The debate continues *on the old list* as to whether we will move over
here, and if so, when.

Hey, Melanie?

Is there some way to get the old RF closing sig line up over here? You
know, the Voltaire quote:

'I do not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your

'But I'm still right' - 'someone else'<VBG>

It is so much a part of the RF identity, I think we should keep it!

Thanks for sharing pics of your trip, Moo. They're cute and funny. I
like being able to put faces with names.

For those interested in adding this to their

And my reply:
Boat-tail Silvina <g> but yes, the Johnny Lightning
1/64 scale are out and can purchased where ever JL
cars are sold. Like hobby stores, k-mart, wallmart,
drugstores...they are 4.95 each and called the 70's
classics. I about died when I saw how much they were
going for on e-bay...or if you are determined to get
them on e-bay, wait a month. the people that loaded up
on them will find the market will be down by then.
think of the riviera clown cars...they did the same
thing with them. bids started at 19.99 for them and
now are going for 3.00, less then retail. just grit
your teeth and wait patiently[ebay] or go cruise toy
stores.

(Posted to the NewRideForever; keep that in mind if you respond)

There seem to be many different ideas about what this list is for and
how it would be used. (Not so surprising, considering that
RideForever was founded in the spirit of lively debate!)

Although many people seemed to be concerned that the current list
would go "poof!" if Vicki's Yahoogroups membership were to lapse, I
was also concerned about the loss of our lists' homepage and
archive. It was bad enough that those pages were woefully out of
date, but now they're completely gone!

Several weeks ago we were discussing the inability to boot spammers
or to change any list settings. It looks as though the spammers are
still with us, despite their having zipped through the alphabet. And
now our messages all get "tagged" with an invitation to visit two
websites that no longer exist!

So, does anybody want to actually move? Or shall we just stick with
the tried-and-true and use the new list as an emergency backup? If
so, we need to continually instruct new members to subscribe in both
places.

My idea for list-moving (if we decide to do that!) would be to keep
the old list open but relatively inactive. Every now and then
somebody could post a message to the old list, something to the
effect of "If you're looking for RideForever, we've moved
here. . . ." followed by the new list's URL. Theoretically, the old
list's archive of messages going back to 1999 would remain available
indefinitely, assuming that Yahoogroups doesn't make any radical
changes.

Whether we move or not, I'd still like to work with the more HTML-
savvy among us to build a new list fic-archive. Perhaps we could
find a way to rescue some of the RF-unique fics (such as
Possum's "Turn of the Storm" and the round robins) from the message
archive or from Google's cache.

Just for giggles, I'm going to post this to both lists--in part, so
anybody who stumbles across the new list can read it and have some
idea of why there are two RideForevers.
