So it's a matter of Canada wanting to conduct the expeditions so that US or other places don't swoop in and take credit and all that? The 'encroachment' part, I mean.

I didn't read the whole article, but I can tell you Arctic sovereignty, protecting our land from the encroachment of many countries, including the States, is a big issue up (down/over) here.

I can't think of the title but I do remember it was a slash between Benny and Kowalski, sort of a starter nothing hard core.  I'll try to remember the title but don't hold your breath, I hope you find it.

Does anyone recall a fic where Benny overheats in his uniform during one of our hot Chicago summers? I'm dying to read it again but I can't recall the title. I don't think it was slash but I can't recall for sure.

Thanks

Another on this theme is a very powerful fic by Josephine March. She used to be the list-mom of the now defunct "Racine Street" group and her fic is high quality.

I forget the title but the story is that Thatcher is angry with Fraser for something to do with a request for a leave that she doesn't want him to take. She punishes him by making him stay outside the door on guard duty during a severe heat wave. She's too stubborn to change her mind and tell him to come back into the consulate. He's too stubborn to do what any reasonable person would do - come back into the consulate without permission given that his health is in danger.  There are poignant scenes including Turnbull coming outside and putting a wet sponge or cloth against Fraser's face.  When his shift is over, Fraser makes it just inside the consulate door then collapses. The hospitals are over-run with heat related cases. Turnbull attends to him, forbidding Thatcher to help.  Fraser's in pretty bad shape.

It goes on from there though I forget all the details. I think Thatcher, realizing how bad she has been, does something extreme. Reports herself?

Anyway, if you don't find it in exwood, I do know where to get hold of "Josephine March" and I can ask her if she has a copy somewhere.

Racine Street had it's own archive. I don't recall if it is still up anywhere. I'll check my site, I used to have a link there.

Yes, it's called Just Breathe by Terri Botta.  Can't remember if I saw it on squidge.org or fanfiction.net.  But I do have it saved to a .doc file and can send directly if you can't find it.

It fits Los Angeles weather this week, too!

-Please, do, I'd love it. I don't think Racine Street is accessible, at least
from what Google turned up. I used to be on that list, and was kind of sad when
it was shut down.

Thanks

Don't sweat this. It will come. As a former grief counselor, I must tell you to just let it happen. To get the ball rolling, start telling your mom's story to a close confidant who will NOT try to diminish your feelings [or even try to tell you what it all means, or other interpretations]. And of course, don't let anyone 'cut you off' from this [usually it is they who feel uncomfortable, not you.]

I don't know where you live, but usually even small to medium sized cities have grief groups... groups usually don't cost as much as 1:1 counseling. Also, check out the YMCA/YWCA, others under 'Counseling, Psychology' listings in the phone book.

You sound like you are 'stuck' and don't know how to get 'unplugged'. A group may just do this. Good luck.

If you let me know when, I'll try to meet you there and take you two someplace.

If I recall correctly, a Hard Rock Cafe has Fraser's red uniform on display. I'll check which one.

If you could come to Ottawa I could take you to the Musical Ride headquarters but that's a good 5 hours drive from Toronto. So, I"ll come to you instead. I come pretty often to Trawna.

Dagnabbit.  Megabus hates me.  They changed some "times" on us, and on a trek of that length, that means it adds an extra day to our journey.  Which means I cannot go on my magnificent journey to the land of Canadia.  Long sad story short, we've had to move our Americanner travel plans to October.  Booger.

Shall there still be possibilities of the Great Duesie Meetup in the future?

"When it's like that it matters," Fraser snapped, "I never posed for you nor did
I authorize that abomination."  His eyes flashed with rage.  "Just having that
wretched thing almost got me killed, there were domestic quarrels and fights
over that image of me I did not authorize then only reason I was not cashiered
out off the force is because some of the women who had that . . . disgusting
thing were married to rather high ranking officials.  And there is no excuse for
hiding from your problems that only makes things worse."

"So your bosses wives had a naked picture of you?"  Ray V snapped.  "Dose
Frannie?"

"I never posed for anything," Fraser snapped angrily, his eyes glazed over with
disgust and hate, "a lot of divorces happened because of that image and I do not
want it happening again.  I'll be tossed out of the country."

"I didn't realize how you felt."  Frannie spoke timidly.  "I'll get rid of the
photos and make it into a sewing room or something."

"I would appreciate it it you would burn the images," Fraser spoke in a firm
tone, "too many times in the past trashcans were rummaged through and the images
resurfaced without warning."

Nodding, Frannie started to leave.  Pausing at the door, she turned back and saw
the determination in Fraser face.  Quietly leaving, she sighed heavily and
hurried home to hide the pictures of Fraser covering the walls in her private
room.

But it was too late, her husband had seen them and was in a fit of rage by the
time she got home.  The call came through almost immediately "domestic violence
in progress".

***************************************************************************

Fraser glanced at the two Rays who would not leave him alone.  "I just want to
get some rest and pray that no one else ever sees those pictures, I don't even
know where she got them from."

"I'll figure it out," Ray V patted Fraser's back, "it won't happen again."

"Thank you kindly."  Fraser nodded and hung his head as though he had something
to be ashamed of.

"Come on 'Stanley'," Ray V glared toward Ray K, "we got work to do."

"Don't call me Stanley," he quipped as they went out the door, "where we going
to start?"

"With Franny," Ray V shrugged, "where else."

In the car, they heard the call "one-nine Delta, one-nine Delta, domestic
violence in progress, see the woman . . ."  Ray V's eyes grew large as he
recognized Frannie's address, turned on the siren and sped up.

**************************************************************************

Fraser collapsed back on his cot and sighed heavily, not knowing what to do or
how to get it done, he decided to just try and get some sleep.

When his door opened, Fraser turned to see who it was.  A shadowy figure entered
and walked over to him, he did not stir from his position on the bed as a sense
of doom engulfed him.

Dark eyes filled with lust gazed down at him as a sultry voice purred, "hello
Ben".

Oh bugger, darn, and blast. My fault, sorry. Thanks to Mel (!!) for banning
the creeps.

It's a long story - short version is that the PC got a virus back in June, and
with my not-a-toddler-anymore home full-time for the summer, I haven't had much
computer time, so everything is still fouled up. Hence, not a lot of email
time; and having my Yahoo Groups under a different log-in than my main email
account doesn't help any, because I keep forgetting which log-in to use for
Groups. Gah!!

But! School started this week, and the Husband is getting close to getting the
email situation hammered into shape. Knock on wood, anyway.

Ray Vecchio strutted down the hall toward Fraser's apartment, he was in a good mood and wanted it to continue.  A night on the town seemed to be in order and he did not want to spend it alone.

"Hey Benny!"  Ray grinned as he rapped on the door and entered.  "Let's go, we got people to see and . . . places . . . . to . . . . be."  His words trailed off as he glanced around.

Dief was curled under the table with a concerned expression on his face as he stared toward the door.

"What is it boy?"  Ray started to worry.  "Is he in trouble?  Do I need to go and get him?"

Diefenbaker licked his chops as he whined softly and gazed longingly into Ray's eyes.

"No I will not give you a donut."  Ray snapped and started looking around for some evidence of where Fraser had disappeared to.  "With my luck he's still at the Consulate."

Whipping out his phone, Ray hit the speed dial for the Canadian Consulate.  "Yes this is Ray Vecchio," he snarled, "let me talk to Fraser."

***********************************************************************

A woman's voice softly spoke, "I am sorry sir, he is not here."  A smile curled her lips as she though of how good Fraser looked in his red tunic.

*************************************************************************

"Thanks."  Ray barked and slapped his phone shut.  "Where could he be?"

Dief whimpered and sat his head down on his paws to wait for Fraser to return.

A moment later, just before Ray was ready to call in an APB for the Mountie, Fraser came in with a book in one hand and his hat in the other.  "Ray," he was surprised, "what are you doing here?"

"I came to get you," Ray grinned, "want to go out," he started swinging his hips as he made fists and circled his arms in front of himself, "want to go dancing, want to party tonight,"

"Ray," Fraser sat down and took a small cap off his head, "I've just been to temple and do not want to go out."

"Didn't know you were Jewish."  Ray shrugged and gave him a curious stare.

"Not exclusively," Fraser blushed softly, "I have too much faith in God to believe in religion.  It's just that some times I need a more . . . . structured environment."

"Let's go out," Ray grinned, "it'll make you feel better."

"I feel fine Ray."  Fraser was obviously upset about something and holding back.

"Come on Benny," Ray grinned as his eyes narrowed, "we could stop by the strip bar and get you fixed up."

Shaking his head, Fraser tried to bury his face in his book but Ray would not take the hint.

"Come on," Ray straddled Fraser's lap and started swinging his hips, "you know all the ladies . . . they want a piece of this."

"Well I do not."  Fraser sighed and glanced around.  "I just need some time alone."

At that moment Ray Kowalski walked in.  "Am I interrupting anything?"

"No," Ray V snapped and stood up.  "I'm trying to get Benny to go out to the strip club.  And you got no reason to give me that look you sick pervert."

"Hey I don't judge," Ray K snorted, "so we going to the new place?  They got by-dancers an' . . . you know . . . . everything."

"If you wish," Fraser snapped his book closed and went to the counter, "you two may go; however," taking a tin of tea from the cupboard he faced them with a stern and confused expression, "I am not going out tonight."

"O.K.," Ray K spoke sternly, "what has your shorts in a bunch?"

Fraser shot him an angry glare before he began making his tea.

"You were O.K. at the precinct a couple hours ago."  Ray K snapped and moved toward Fraser only to have Dief growl and block his path.  "What the . . . I just want to find out what's bugging you."

"Dief, down."  For once the stubborn wolf did not question Fraser's command and returned to his place under the table.

"Just tell me what it is," Ray K grumbled, "I could you know . . . help or something."

"You couldn't help him if your own life depended on it."  Ray V snapped angrily.

"ENOUGH!"  Fraser's sharp tone shocked everyone.

At that moment Francesca timidly tucked her head in the door.  "Fraser we need to talk."  Coming into the room she scowled toward her brother.  "What are you doing here?"

"You first."  Ray V glared daggers tow rad her as he snarled.  "You are a married woman, what the hell are you doing coming over here this time of night?"

"It's nothing Ray."  Fraser spoke sternly as he finished making his tea.

"Well I kinda think it bothered you," Frannie moved toward Fraser only to have him quickly move away, "come on Frase tell me what is so bad about it?"

"Your husband would be hurt if he knew and I will have no part in breaking up your marriage."  Turning his back toward her, Fraser sipped his tea.

"Please," Frannie tried to touch his shoulder only to have Diefenbaker move between them and glare toward her, "he already knows."

Spinning around, Fraser stared toward her in shock and dismay.

"He knows it's my special room," Frannie grinned, "all that's missing is a little . . piece of . . . "

Dief stood up and growled as Frannie reached for Fraser's arm.

"What is his problem?" Ray K tried to step forward only to have the wolf hold him off.

"Dief remembers," sitting down, Fraser sipped his tea and sighed heavily, "I was in Toronto, and no it will not be on any of my records, the women were very aggressive and I did not know how to handle the situation."

"You still don't." Ray V grinned then saw the irate glare in Fraser's eyes. "Sorry, go on, what was so terrible that they erased your record?"

"Many of the women wanted my picture," shaking his head, Fraser faced the window, "why I'll never know but there was a photo-shop that made life size cardboard images and one woman got hold of a picture of me and had it made into a," clearing his throat, he shifted nervously and gazed into his tea, "rather indecent . . . . um."

"We got it," Ray K blurted, "she had a naked picture of you and set it up as a life size cut out."

"Yes well, . . . that was only the beginning." Fraser blushed brightly. "The shop owner made several copies and it was his 'best selling item' for quite some time."

Dief murmured and snorted as he lay down at Fraser's feet.

"It almost got us kicked off the force," Fraser stood up, stepped to the sink and poured out his tea, "many of the women were married to Mounties and when they found out about the . . . . images . . . well I . . ."

"This isn't Canada," Frannie smiled coyly, "no one is going to care if I have a picture of you up in my room." Shrugging one shoulder, she chortled, "it's my hiding place, when things get too hectic I go in there and relax. It dose not matter."

"When it's like that it matters," Fraser snapped, "I never posed for you nor did I authorize that abomination." His eyes flashed with rage. "Just having that wretched thing almost got me killed, there were domestic quarrels and fights over that image of me I did not authorize then only reason I was not cashiered out off the force is because some of the women who had that . . . disgusting thing were married to rather high ranking officials. Fraser collapsed back on his cot and sighed heavily, not knowing what to do or how to get it done, he decided to just try and get some sleep.

When his door opened, Fraser turned to see who it was.  A shadowy figure entered and walked over to him, he did not stir from his position on the bed as a sense of doom engulfed him.

Dark eyes filled with lust gazed down at him as a sultry voice purred, "hello Ben".

"What are you doing here?"  Fraser's voice was husky and thick with emotion he had not intended.

"Where else would I be?"  The shadowy figure slowly sauntered over toward Fraser and was instantly met by Diefenbakers fangs flashing in the dim light.

Diefenbaker's hair bristled as he snarled, his entire body tense as he anticipated the attack.

"I see you have a dog now."  The figure backed away and sighed heavily.  "You never use to have anything to stop us."

"Actually he's more of a wolf."  Fraser's tone left no doubt that he would not try to stop his companion from attacking as he sat up.

"A WOLF?"  The once sultry voice squeaked with fear.  "Why are you doing this to me Ben?  We ment so much to each other in . ."

"You deliberately set me up," Fraser snapped causing Dief to jump then crouch lower, "forget that I was almost fired and deported, your actions were . . "

"What you wanted at the time," the voice purred and a soft chuckle followed, "you still want it."  Opening the jet black jacket, it fell to the floor to reveal a pale white and completely naked body.

Hodling his head in his hands, Fraser groaned in desperation.  "If you do not leave now," glancing toward the figure, he almost snarled as viciously as Diefenbaker was, "I will set my wolf on you and tell everyone what you did and why I did not try to stop him."

Picking up the jacket, the figure could tell that Fraser was serious and as it slipped back into what little protection there was, the voice chortled, "this is not over with lover, I will have you again and this time," opening the door slightly, the figure leaned toward Fraser and purred, "you will not escape me."

Diefenbaker snapped viciously as he charged toward the intruder.

Moving swiftly, the figure barely managed to escape without being mangled by Dief.

Diefenabker sat at the door, growling softly until the intruder left them alone.  Trotting over to Fraser, he sat at his feet and whimpered softly.

"Thank you kindly," Fraser sighed as he patted Diefs neck, "I don't know what would have happened if you had not been here."

************************************************************************************************************

Both Rays had made it to Frannie's home and found it on fire, her husband had deliberately set her 'private room' on fire, burning everything in it from the life sized photo cropped naked pictures of Fraser that not only covered the walls but the ceiling as well to the manaquin that had a vibrator attached in the 'natural' position.

Frannie was still inside, trying to put out the fire but it was too late, the room had been consumed in flames and she was not aware of the fact that the stares were also burning.

"Where's Frannie?"  Ray V asked as he charged up to Frannie's husband.

"I don't know," he snarled, "she took off after we had an arguement."

"She's still in there," a neighbor lady shouted as she pointed toward a side window, "trying to put out the fire."

"Hold him," Ray K snapped and charged into the burning building, "I'll get Frannie."

As Frannie's husband tried to leave, Ray V grabbed him and slamed him into a brick wall.  "NO you don't, if she doesn't make it you don't make it."

All eyes were on the flames as they flew from the windows, the sound of creaking timbers did not encourage anyone.

"I saw what she had in there," Frannie's husband snarled as he struggled to break free, "it's a shrine to him, he's naked and (groan) she even has a manaquin with a vibrator for his penis."

"That don't give you the right to burn her house."  Ray V snarled as he pushed his brother-in-law deeper into the brick wall.

"She's a wh. . . . oooooo!"  Crying out in pain, he could no longer speak as Ray V twisted his arm and shoved a knee into his back to keep him still.

****************************************************************************************************************

Ray K darted up the burning stairs and into Frannie's private room, she was frantically trying to save some of the photographs from her files but everything was burning.

Realizing she would not go quietly, Ray K grabbed Frannie, flung her over his shoulder and darted down the hall just as the stairs collapsed.

"I have to save it," Frannie cried as she reached toward her private room now entirely engulfed in flames, "my recordings may still be intact."

"The rooms' gone," Ray k snapped, "and so are we if I don't find a way out of here fast."  Charging around like a wild animal, he desperately tried to find a way out.

TYK for your kind words, sweetie. It's lovely to hear after I've been away from writing for so long.

This continues to be riveting . . . but . . . oh . . . could this be somebody other than Icky Vicky? Is VS 1 and 11 she already met Dief.

Oh well. You'll let us know. Meanwhile, oy vey, a vibrator in the place of dangly bits? That Frannie is really something.
