Listlings, these are great news.

From last year's RCW139 I have told you that DM is class act entirely.  He makes himself avaialble to fans, joins in with the fun (it was his idea to grab a group photo shot) and came nicely to Catherine whatshername's (Elaine) rescue when she was dying on the stage.

Come on up, DM is worth the whole price of admission.

I do have all the archive stories on my hard drive at the moment. I'm planning
on putting it all either on Weebly.com (free website place) or on my own
website, but I haven't had the time lately. I'll make sure it's near the top of
the To Do List, and we'll see how busy the holidays are this year. :)

As for the automatic link in the emails, I'd forgotten all about that. I'll
change it right now, and update it when I get the Archive re-homed.

Listlings, for those not in the loop and want to be, the following:

*************

> Hello everyone! Big milestone today, as registration is now open for RCW 139: Duesers' Day Off! You can find the Registration/Online Store page under the RCW 139: 2010 tab. Detailed instructions as to how to register and pay for your registration are included, but here's a summary:
>
> -Both attending and supporting memberships are on sale
>
> -For attending memberships: last year, you told us that paying the entire cost of the convention 9 months up front wasn't ideal. We heard you, and are therefore using a deposit system this year: $50 for adults, and $25 for children/youth. As well, all members who make a deposit in the next three months will receive a discount of up to $25 over the normal convention price.
>
> -For supporting memberships: get yours now! Support RCW 139 and reserve your bagful of goodies, sure to be as good as last year's (remember the personally dedicated picture of Paul Gross? The t-shirt? The trading cards? And more...)! Supporting memberships are available for the special price of $35 (same as last year!) until 31 Dec 09, after which the price will rise to $45. Note that we are selling supporting memberships with shipping included this year, which will ensure that you receive yours soon after the convention!
>
> -Want to surprise a friend or family member with an RCW 139 supporting membership for Christmas? What a fantastic idea! We make it very easy to do so!

There are a few links to those of us of the moo's "generation" of duesers on my links page.

I'll have to re-look at any that were once geocities, though.

Heh heh, I think of you, Janice, Snowee and others (don't feel slighted listlings) as my generation and M-A as one of the older generation, even though M-A is chronologically half the Moo's age, hee hee. Such is the fandom world.

Two incidents ganged up on me yesterday as a reminder of my favorite not-too-angsty Janice fic.

First, I've been following Nathan Fillion (Capt. Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly/Serenity and Richard Castle from Castle) on Twitter and he posted about "Rememberance Day". Also since I was downtown getting my flu shot anyway, I stayed for a while and watched the Veterans' Day parade and saw members of the VFW passing out little paper poppies.

So, now I want to indulge in my annual tradition of reading Janice's fic about Fraser observing what my parents always called Armistice Day (one holiday, so many names) but I can't find it. I was sure I had it bookmarked but I guess that was on my old computer.

Janice? Anyone? Help!

>From Entertainment Weekly:
ABC has opted not to order additional episodes of Eastwick, effectively
canceling the freshman dramedy. The show, which has consistently ranked last in
its Wednesday-10 pm timeslot, is expected to finish out its current 13-episode run.

“I’m pretty furious, too,” vents executive producer Maggie Friedman. “We have
such an amazing group of writers and actors — best people I’ve ever worked with.
None of us can believe this is really happening.”

Adding insult to injury, the network pulled the plug so abruptly that Friedman
won’t have a chance to tweak the 13th episode to give fans any of that magical
closure stuff. “We’re smack in the middle of several insanely juicy stories,”
Friedman sighs. “And so we do not get a chance to wrap things up in a bow. Which
is killing me.”

If there’s a silver lining, it’s that the remaining episodes are expected to air
as planned. “I believe [ABC] is going to air the rest of our run,” says
Friedman, “and I think people should tune in anyway because our best episodes
are in there. We were really hitting our stride.
“The magic was getting crazy, the storylines were getting really exciting and
sexy and dangerous,” the exec elaborates. “I [just] wish we could’ve given the
fans — and ourselves — real closure.”

>From Entertainment Weekly:
ABC has opted not to order additional episodes of Eastwick, effectively
canceling the freshman dramedy. The show, which has consistently ranked last in
its Wednesday-10 pm timeslot, is expected to finish out its current 13-episode run.

Im pretty furious, too, vents executive producer Maggie Friedman. We have
such an amazing group of writers and actors best people Ive ever worked with.
None of us can believe this is really happening.

Adding insult to injury, the network pulled the plug so abruptly that Friedman
wont have a chance to tweak the 13th episode to give fans any of that magical
closure stuff. Were smack in the middle of several insanely juicy stories,
Friedman sighs. And so we do not get a chance to wrap things up in a bow. Which
is killing me.

If theres a silver lining, its that the remaining episodes are expected to air
as planned. I believe [ABC] is going to air the rest of our run, says
Friedman, and I think people should tune in anyway because our best episodes
are in there. We were really hitting our stride.
The magic was getting crazy, the storylines were getting really exciting and
sexy and dangerous, the exec elaborates. I [just] wish we couldve given the
fans and ourselves real closure.

Janice? Anyone? Help!

Actually I'm not surprised. It's mildy amusing but I only watch it for PG.

And, PG is the kind of guy that really needs a good director riding herd over him. He's losing control, bless him, over the crooked mouth routine.

Oh well

I was watching MOTB this weekend, totally enjoying Frannie's slaughtering of
pirate jargon (sliver me timbers?) and remembered that Tom Smith does something
similar in a song he wrote. Of course I had to go out online to find it. And
of course, I have to share it with you.

Well, Janice the answer is "Excellent odds!" Nine years after first conceiving the ending, and nearly three years after actually starting to write the darn thing, I am pleased to say "It's done!" Okay, so the story doesn't actually end the way I first envisioned it. The same information still comes out, just in a different fashion. And I must say that the original idea has led me to some pretty wild and woolly places but I've learned a lot and met some outstanding people along the way. So even if the experiences didn't show up in the story, I don't regret a moment of it.

So, Jean, my dear beta, be looking for a story in your inbox this weekend. And the, depending on what she recommends, I hope to have it ready to post in a couple of weeks.

We've been a little slow in updating the news during the last few weeks, and that's mostly because we've been working on a new website - which is now online at the familiar www.rcw139.org address. Please take a look and let us know if you have any comments! We've started putting up information about the 2010 convention, including some preliminary event details, a guest list, and more information about the venue: the Toronto Marriott Bloor Yorkville hotel.

Tom entertained everyone in 2008 (and in 1997, 1998, and 1999), and you can find pictures of his attendance on the RCW 139 site.

Mostly, anyway. Everything with a working link is now stashed away on my hard
drive. There were 16 stories with broken links, which I'll probably find in the
Geocities file manager. I'll get those later tonight.

Now I'm off to run errands and go visit my grandpa in the hospital. Loads of
fun.

Update: I'm saving everything on my hard drive, and am into the M section of
the authors, so about halfway through (roughly). Everything's going to have
some annoying Geocities code in the HTML, but it won't be hard to delete that.
Next week sometime, I'll probably set up a site on Weebly, or just do it on my
own site. I've got plenty of space, and after three years, I've done squat with
it anyway. :)

Right now I'm just viewing everything without being logged in and saving it that
way; turns out that's quicker than going through the Geocities interface. I'll
have to dig through the Geocities file manager though, and make sure I haven't
missed anything. There are a couple of dead links that are probably typos in
the link, and I want to find out for sure.

All right, I sent an email to the Geocities Rescue Project; not sure they can
help since Wolf is incommunicado, but it's worth a shot. Worst comes to worst,
I can save everything on the archive to my hard drive, and we'll work something
out later.

Here's a list of the authors included in the archive:

For those of you who have work in the archive, how many of you have it somewhere
