Hi all, I have a question, I have heard that they are starting
Nashville Star Auditions at a club called Wild Bills in the Atlanta
area. I checked the website but FIND NOTHING. This performer Mark
Elliott is claiming he is auditioning August 12th.
His management has posted this at his fan club at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OfficialMarkElliottFanClub?
yguid=74770317
I do want to mention that his management has been known to fabricate
so I have come here to the folks who I think would know for sure
about whether or not auditions have begun because I also have
someone I want to audition but can't seem to find any dates for
auditions other than this August 12th date the Elliott management is
talking about?
Can someone shed light on this for me please?
Attention NASHVILLE STAR fans - we've got two important announcements
for you:
First, USA Network announced last week that NASHVILLE STAR will
return for a second season, most likely in early 2004. As soon as
there are details about auditions and the season premiere, we will

Secondly, if you're wondering what Buddy Jewell has been up to, his
new CD was just released - and you can win an autographed copy in our
new sweepstakes! Just go to
http://www.usanetwork.com/nashvillestar/sweepstakes.html, fill in the

A copy of Buddy's DVD single for "Help Pour Out The Rain (Lacey's

First Look at Kelly Clarkson’s New Album by David Bloomberg -- 04/15/2003
We’ve waited long enough! Now Kelly Clarkson’s new CD, Thankful, is finally available. I’ve given it a couple listens and here are my first impressions.
The wait for Kelly Clarkson’s first full CD has been entirely too long. So I’m not going to make you wait any further for a first look at it. I’ll probably do a full review later (and there may be others doing full reviews here as well), but for now, I have listened to each song twice on the CD and here are my first impressions:
“The Trouble With Love Is” – The album starts off with the type of song we’re used to hearing from Kelly. This is a powerful ballad that shows off her voice. A good start.
Cut to “Miss Independent,” a song that we are definitely not used to hearing from her. But, damn, it’s good! And I’m glad – I said before that I’d like to hear something other than pre-packaged ballads, and this definitely fits the bill. Luckily, nobody came to my cubicle at work while I was listening, or they’d have seen me chair-dancing. (It probably wouldn’t have been a pretty sight.)
“Low” – Strong vocals, good backing music. It’s kind of a slow rocking song, and Kelly shows her ability to convey powerful emotions with her voice. I would recommend this as the second single, if anybody from the production company is reading.
“Some Kind of Miracle” – Another ballad, but not as strong as others we’ve heard her sing. In fact, I would probably rank this as the worst song on the album, which is rather surprising considering it was written by “hitmaker” Dianne Warren. I don’t particularly care for the backing music at all. Mind you, her worst song is still better than most other songs out there today, as her voice carries the day, but I already find myself wanting to skip ahead on the CD to the better ones.
“What’s Up Lonely” – This song has a kind of R&B feel to it. Not the best song on the album, but pretty decent. It’s not one that I really find myself getting into, but it plays nicely in the background as I’m doing something else.
“Just Missed the Train” – Good music, good voice. Another song with a nice rocking, though slow, sound.
“Beautiful Disaster” – Another good one. Not much else to say about it right now. I can only say “good voice” so many times.”
“You Thought Wrong” – This is the song that features Tamyra Gray along with Kelly. Another song that’s damn good. If “Low” isn’t the next single, this should be. It’s another rocking song like “Miss Independent,” and shows a side of both Kelly and Tamyra that we hadn’t been used to. Their voices work well together. And, yes, I was chair dancing again.
“Thankful” – This song has a nice little guitar background with a few other instruments, which allows Kelly to feature her voice more prominently.
“Anytime” – Closing out the new songs with another ballad, this one provides more power. It’s a strong number and a good way to end. Much better than “Some Kind of Miracle.” Probably the best of the ballads.
“A Moment Like This (New Mix)” – Frankly, I hate remixes. Why take a song that I have grown to enjoy and mess it all up? But when I heard this “new mix,” I couldn’t actually tell that it was a new mix at all. Wait, on a second listen, I hear some very slight changes in the background music, but I’m not even sure that’s really a change or just something I hadn’t noticed because it’s so quiet. And maybe there is a small change in the way Kelly is singing, like they took it out of a different “take.” Now I’m just looking for stuff and don’t know for sure. I’ll have to do a side-by-side comparison or something. If you figure out what the “new mix” is, please let me know.
“Before Your Love (New Mix)” – Same thing as above. On first listen, the only thing I noticed that was different was a different “you” in the closing “before your love” – and frankly, I don’t like even that small change! Even on the second listen, that was the only difference I caught. Again, let me know if you heard something else.
If you haven’t already ordered or purchased it, make sure to do so now – for 29% off from Amazon.com by clicking below.
And don’t forget that the American Idol 2 CD-single of “God Bless the U.S.A.” came out today as well. You can get that for just $2.98!

Country music is America's most popular radio format, reaching more
than 77 million adults (almost 40% of the population) on a weekly
basis. Many country music stations are the #1 radio station in their
respective markets, including many markets not traditionally known
as "country" markets. International country music sales also continue
to grow, with more and more country artists embarking on world tours.
1900 — 1920: Country music begins as "mountain music," telling
stories of hardship and heartache in the Appalachian and Old West
regions of the US.
1920s: With the introduction of radio, country music hits the
national airwaves. Beginning in 1925, performances are broadcast live
on Saturday nights from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN.
1930s: The growth of the broadcast and recording industry and the
emergence of country singer/songwriters continues. Western/Cowboy
movies dominate the big screen and country music featured in films
becomes widely popular.
1940-1952: Nashville emerges as the mecca of country music. Western
Swing (country dance music), a blend of jazz, blues, and big band,
comes to the forefront. Bluegrass emerges with the influence of the
banjo. Hank Williams dominates the country music scene with his
freewheeling, fun loving, "honky tonk" get-up and dance music.
1953-1959: Country music is fused with rhythm and blues to create
the "rockabilly" sound. This style of music gains a younger audience
and becomes a national phenomenon, with top artists including Jerry
Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and "The King of Rock `n Roll,"
Elvis Presley.
1960s: Nashville becomes known as "Music City USA." Country music
moves to the foreground with the "Nashville Sound," a mix of country
and pop music. Easy listening music dominates, with top artists
including Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, and Brenda Lee.
1970-1974: Country artists top both the country and pop charts for
the first time and have mass crossover appeal. Top artists include
Tanya Tucker, Olivia Newton-John, and Conway Twitty.
1972-1978: Country finally becomes "cool" and becomes a big hit on
many college campuses, with disaffected singer/songwriters leading
the pack. "Outlaws" (as they were called), including Willie Nelson
and Waylon Jennings, are known for breaking with big business in an
effort to do country music their own way.
1980-1985: Country culture invades the continent. Texas/Country bars
pop up in cities across the US, with patrons riding on mechanical
bulls, line dancing, etc. Country musicians are highly visible and
promoted extensively, with top artists such as Kenny Rogers, Emmylou
Harris, Alabama, and Dolly Parton going on extensive tours and even
being featured in Walt Disney specials. Urban Cowboy and Dolly
Parton's 9 to 5 top the box office.
1986-1990: Invasion of the "New Traditionalists." Country music
ventures back to its roots, with top artists including Clint Black,
Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless, and Reba McEntire.
1991-1995: Country music continues to incorporate pop music into its
sound, with artists such as Dwight Yoakam, Wynonna Judd, Vince Gill,
Tim McGraw, and Martina McBride leading the pack. With his big hat
and driving guitar, Garth Brooks establishes himself as the most
popular country music artist of all time, based on record sales and
worldwide concert venue.
1996-present: Country music grows its fan base to include a young
adult/teen audience willing to spend money both at the record store
and on concerts. Listeners alienated by the direction of modern rock
and rap began finding country a wholesome alternative. With the
growth of a young fan base, younger, sexier country artists emerge to
dominate both the pop and country music charts, including LeeAnn
Rimes, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Lee Ann Womack, and The Dixie Chicks.
