The Boys From The Bush
UK, BBC (Entertainment Media/Cinema Verity), Sitcom, Colour, 1991
Starring: Tim Healy, Chris Haywood, Mark Haddigan
A comedy-drama series shot mostly on location in Australia and a
little in the UK, depicting the misadventures of 'pom' Reg
and 'strine' Dennis, a mismatched couple who are partners in
Melbourne Confidential, a business that is part-marriage-bureau, part-
private-detective-agency, but which actually takes almost any work
with a fee attached. It is Reg and Dennis's desire to make money that
keeps them together, despite their wildly different outlooks on life.
Although Reg has been in Australia for a long time, he still insists
that Britain is best, pining for proper food, decent beer and his
beloved QPR football team. Dennis's obsessions also include a love of
his country but are dominated by his love of women. Suddenly, Reg's
innocent nephew Les arrives from the UK and becomes embroiled in the
complex lifestyles and cases of the Melbourne Confidential agents.
Researched and written by Mark Lewisohn.
