Does anyone know the name of the song, and the
artist who sings it, that opened the "My Mentor" episode
last Thursday?

It was the song J.D. listened to
on his walkman, as he was treating a patient in bed,
and he looked up to notice the entire hospital
operating in rythmn with the music.

Thanks,
Ian

Okay, you know who else i think is really funny?
Turk's fratboy "scalpel jockey" buddy. I think his name
is Todd. He says to J.D. --> "gimmie some love"!
and he then proceeds to give him a most painful
high-five.

That's just hilarious. :-)

Thsi is next weeks' plot sumary from nbc:

MY BEST FRIEND'S MISTAKE 10/09/01

WILL LONELY
J.D. CONSIDER TURK TO BE CRUDDY BUDDY? -- When Turk
(Donald Faison) always seems occupied with new girlfriend
Carla (Judy Reyes) and with work, a resentful J.D.
(Zach Braff) feels like an odd-man-out and abandoned by
his buddy -- especially when he believes that Turk
botched a patient's surgery that could also implicate him
for not reporting the mistake. In addition, J.D. is
even more distracted by his tempting flirtations with
Elliot (Sarah Chalke) but he feels that unless he makes
a more serious romantic maneuver within 48 hours,
their budding relationship will be forever doomed and
downgraded to merely "friends" status. Elsewhere, Elliot
seeks advice from a resentful Dr. Cox (John C.
McGinley) who hardly relishes becoming the interns'
designated mentor. Ken Jenkins also stars.

TV-14

Her's a plot summary for this Thursday's epidoes
from nbc:

MY MENTOR 10/04/01

SMOKE GETS
IN J.D.'S EYES WHEN HE WARNS PUFFING PATIENT-- J.D.
(Zach Braff) shows genuine concern for a flaky patient
(guest star John Ducey) after a cancer scare, but when
the man continues to puff away daily on multiple
packs of cigarettes, J.D. seeks advice from his gruff
mentor Dr. Cox (John McGinley) on how to intervene --
and instead gets smacked as a professional courtesy.
Elsewhere, Elliot's (Sarah Chalke) unsociable bedside manner
and attitude makes her public enemy number-one among
the nurses -- especially Carla (Judy Reyes).
Meanwhile, Carla's got her hands full as she rebuffs an
eager Turk (Donald Faison) who persists in asking her

I watched the pilot last night (taped it since I
wasn't at home) and I loved it!!! This is the funniest
show I've seen on NBC in a long while. Zack Braff is
zany and cute, and John C. McGinley as Dr. Cox is
wonderful. This might be a early prediction, but I think I
see a best supporting actor Emmy in his future.

Judy Reyes portrays the caring but slightly jaded
nurse Carla Espinosa on NBC’s comedy series “Scrubs.”
“I really admire Carla – she’s smart and sassy and a
very good nurse,” says Reyes. “I like that she remains
confident and unapologetic in a world where nurses don’t
receive the same respect as doctors.”

Reyes grew
up in the Bronx and became interested in acting
while attending Hunter College in Manhattan. In 1992,
she landed her first major acting role in the
independent feature film “Jack and His Friends” opposite Sam
Rockwell, and went on to perform extensively in the
theater. She is particularly proud of her work with the
Labyrinth Theatre Company, a multi-cultural acting space in
Manhattan where she is a founding member and has served as
both actor and producer on numerous productions over
the past 10 years.

Reyes’ television credits
include several guest appearances as Tina on “Oz,” a role
she reprises in the upcoming season of the gritty
cable series. Additionally, she appeared in “The
Sopranos” and “100 Centre Street.” She also starred in
several television movies, including “John Sanford’s Mind
Prey” (with Eriq La Salle of NBC’s “ER”) and NBC’s “The
Prosecutors.”

Among Reyes’ feature-film credits are
“Bringing Out the Dead” with Nicolas Cage and the
independent film “Went to Coney Island on a Mission from God,

upcoming film “Washington Heights.” Additionally, Reyes
acted in and co-produced (with her husband) “Taino,” a
short film which will be screened at the upcoming Los
Angeles Latino Film Festival and is expected to be shown
on a premier cable channel this summer.

Reyes lives in New York with her husband,

looks forward to producing more independent films. Her

A versatile veteran of film, television and
theatre, Ken Jenkins began his acting career performing in
high school theatre productions in his hometown of
Dayton, Ohio. “I was never particularly athletic in high
school, so I distinguished myself through acting,” says
Jenkins. “As a teenager, I discovered a love for acting
that defined me for the rest of my life.”

Jenkins went on to study acting at Antioch College,
performing on Broadway and in regional theatre throughout
his college education. In 1967, he co-founded and
served for three years as Associate Artistic Director
for the prestigious Actor’s Theatre of Louisville,
which became known as a breeding ground for some of
America’s best new playwrights, including Beth Henley and

theatre as an actor, director and writer through 1983.

Over his 30 years in the theatre, Jenkins has been
associated with an average of 10 plays a year as an actor,

Sarah Chalke is not a doctor – but she plays one
on TV as a motivated young medical intern, and she
even researched the role by going on hospital rounds
with a group of actual doctors. But nothing prepared
her for the real role she was about to play when she
stumbled upon a critical situation recently.

“Normally, I pass out at the sight of blood being drawn,”
says Chalke, who starred for several seasons on
“Roseanne.” “But I was just outside of my Los Angeles
apartment when a man who had been changing a tire under his
minivan was trapped when the car shifted and fell on him.
I was with two female friends, but we couldn’t
budge it off him, so we ran around and got six more
people to help us lift the car and get him out. An
ambulance later took him to the hospital.”

Chalke
was born in Ottawa, Canada, and raised in Vancouver,
Canada, as one of three daughters. Her father is a lawyer
and both her parents are mediators who also run a
child adoption agency. Two years ago, she accompanied
her parents to China to coordinate the adoption of
several orphans there when the family decided to take a
side trip to neighboring Tibet. After hiking to a
native “sky burial” at 17,000 feet, Chalke experienced
another frightening incident when her father became
severely ill with high-altitude sickness. “Waiting to go
down the mountain was the most intense night of my
life,” she recalls, but her father survived.

When Chalke was 8, she began appearing in local
Vancouver musical theater productions (“Until I discovered
that I couldn’t sing"). A few years later, she became
a youthful environmental reporter on the Canadian
series, “Kids’ Zone.” Chalke then got her big break in
1993 when she was cast as daughter Becky Conner in the
hit comedy “Roseanne,” replacing actress Lecy
Goranson.

When “Roseanne” concluded in 1997, the
outdoorsy Chalke returned to Vancouver and gladly remained
in her hometown when she starred in her favorite
role as a cowgirl in the Canadian series “Nothing Too
Good for a Cowboy” for two seasons. Her television
movie credits include “I’ve Been Waiting for You,”
“Stand Against Fear,” “A Child’s Wish,” “Dying to
Belong,” “Our Mother’s Murder,” “Dead Ahead” and “Woman on
the Ledge”

Chalke now returns to comedy as
she portrays an ambitious intern who is not afraid to
speak her mind. “She's kind of a smarty-pants,” she
says. “She’s sarcastic and fun, competitive and driven,
and although she might appear to be just out for
herself, you’ll learn that she's just nervous about being
a good doctor.”

In her leisure time, Chalke
prefers cooking with friends (especially Thai and sushi),
playing the guitar, hiking, skiing (she’s an instructor),
snowboarding, kayaking and reading. In addition, she speaks
French and German. She also volunteers at a hospice for
terminally ill children and works for the Audrey Hepburn
Children’s Fund. Her birthday is August 27.

Zach Braff stars as fresh-faced medical intern
John “J.D.” Dorian, who is embarking on his career at
a hospital full of unpredictable staffers and
patients. “This is a dream role for me,” says Braff of his
new alter-ego. “As an actor you’re always struggling
to convey everything that’s going on in the
character’s mind,” Braff comments, “but, as J.D., the
audience is privy to all of my thoughts and neuroses.
There’s just so much room to grow in a role like this.”

Braff’s love of acting dates back to his childhood in
South Orange, New Jersey, where he watched his father,
an attorney by trade, work in community theater for
fun. “I was eight years old and on opening night when
the curtain closed and the lights went up, it was the
most exciting thing I’d ever seen” says Braff. At age
11, Braff attended the renowned children’s acting
camp, StageDoor Manor, and was scouted by a talent
manager who got him started professionally.

Braff’s first role came at 14 in a television pilot
produced by Bruce Paltrow (“St. Elsewhere”), where he
co-starred opposite the producer’s daughter, Gwyneth
Paltrow. He went on to appear in the films “Getting to
Know You” (opposite Heather Matarazzo and Bebe
Neuwirth), and Woody Allen’s “Manhattan Murder Mystery,”
where he played the son of Allen’s and Diane Keaton’s
characters. He recently co-starred in “The Broken Hearts
Club,” winner of a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding
Film.

Braff has also appeared in theater in New
York, working opposite Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett and
Liev Schreiber in “Macbeth” at New York’s Public
Theatre and as Romeo in Shakespeare on the Sound’s
production of “Romeo and Juliet.”

Displaying a
chameleon-like ability to transform himself into a wide range of
characters, Braff has played a blond gay drug addict, a nerdy
introvert and a Scottish warrior, among other roles. “The
challenge of becoming a character that’s totally different
from who I am is what excites me about acting” Braff
notes. “It makes each experience new.”

A
graduate of Northwestern University’s film school, Braff
studied theater acting while writing and directing his
own short films, including “Lionel on a Sun Day”
which won numerous awards during the 1998 festival
season. He has also directed a number of commercials and
public service announcements in both New York and Los
Angeles. When he’s not busy with his acting career, Braff
continues to work on his screenplay and looks forward to
his next opportunity to act in theater. His birthday
is April 6.
