8x08 – Point of Impact

Good Tuesday to everyone! I trust that the start of the week has been a great one. Here in North Carolina, we finally got rid of all that rain, only to see more clouds coming. It's a nice fall day, one that is inspiring and for once, I'm glad that I'm working *pinches self*….I know I just didn't say that aloud. Either way about it, I've found a few minutes to spare to give thought to the episode last night. Here are a few of them. As always, if reviewing before Wednesday,  use the spoiler space provided! And away we go…

From the onset, I knew that this was going to be a different episode. Usually, I can tell by what happens in the first few seconds and who is on scene first, how the show is going to follow. Honestly, I didn't see this one coming. In the past, the beginning of the show usually consisted of a quick committal of a crime, and the CSIs on scene with Horatio's one liner and cut to the opening credits. Lately, they've been expanding on the beginning scene, giving the audience more details and incidentally more interaction with the characters who initiate the investigation. I like this. I also like the fact that Horatio isn't commanding the show from the very first scene. Here, we see Calleigh and Jesse (looking fine in a button up and jeans) as they begin to piece together the accident (which, can I say was very crucial, indeed).

There are subtle touches that don't go unnoticed here: Calleigh's emotional involvement from the start by covering up the dead mother, showing that she does, indeed have a heart, and the follow through later when the issue of alcohol becomes paramount, how she injects a bit of personal experience erroneously, but is able to follow with her contention that she was wrong. Calleigh's grown so much; it's so awesome to see that she's becoming more comfortable to be her own skin.  And as for Jesse I've loved how they've built upon his character and refuses to rest on his good looks as a selling point- it sells itself, so there's no need to give anymore thought to it. It's great to see that he's not just a stud carrying a kit. Of course, an opening wouldn't be an opening without a Horatio one liner, and they are STILL fading in the music to over lay the actors as they are speaking. I cannot say how much that annoys me, but it looks as if that's here to stay. *Sigh* I must forge on…

The case, for me, at least in the beginning was starting to look a bit predictable. However, as it evolved and evidence was being discounted from one end of the lab to the next, I was pulled into it more. I loved that there was a twist around every corner, and it proves a time telling point: You only think you know someone. From the mother's illicit affair to the father's lies about being where he should've been, to the son's stupidity, the lesson to learn is that no one can know everything about someone, ESPECIALLY in families.  It was well executed if you ask me, the fact that they presented such a large contingent of potential suspects was evidence that it wasn't a usual, predictable case and I continue to say that the accident itself was crucial enough for me to wince, several times.

On the character front, for the first time in a LONG time, the team acted, well…like a team. I loved that they all came together to solve the puzzles, and we got an inside look as to how this new team (it's new because one out of the four investigators was an original team member) functions. We see that Jesse knows his stuff, but is personable, we see that Walter has facets that no one's even fathomed, Calleigh's coming around and smiling more, and Wolfe- sigh…he's reverting back to his old posturing. I found it intriguing, yet annoying that Wolfe commented kind of cattily when Walter was explaining a new technique. Wolfe's antics put me in the thought of a third grade bully, it was childish and so off character that I was pretty much appalled that it even happened. I like that Walter's from the night shift and that he knows his stuff, and that he's constantly showing Wolfe up. Wolfe's being pretentious, and frankly, I'm starting to grow tired of it. When a CSI is more worried about filling his gut than getting every piece of evidence taken into consideration, there's a problem. I think they really need to re evaluate Wolfe's presence, and change it. Maybe they have, and this is his path to leaving (because playing the scorned cop is so…Stetler-ish) Wolfe should get over his `tude about Walter leaving him in the forensic dust and get on board. He's here to stay, Wolfe, deal.

The interaction between team 2.0 (with the exception of Wolfe on occurrences) is refreshing. I like that Calleigh is playful again (her scene with Walter at the accident site with the eyeball was cute, and leaning in to sniff Jesse at the indication of marijuana was just hilarious!). I love that the team is so comfortable with each other that they can squabble, debate, banter, smile and STILL get the job done. It's such a contrast to the team of old (after Speed died) where everyone was stiff with grief and splintered. With the new crew, there's a sense of team cohesion again, a sense that everyone cares for each other again. This was the team that I've missed for five seasons. It feels good to have them back.

Of course, my review wouldn't be a review if I didn't mention appearance.  Because the case was so intricate and enjoyable, I almost forgot to keep an eye out for any indiscretions. Sadly, there were a few blaring incidents…

Once in for all,…can we PLEASE get rid of the tie for Jesse. I don't care if you put him in dark t shirts or just button ups( we know that won't happen because that's just one step closer to Speed likeness), but for God sakes >>>TOSS THE TIE!

Who ever did Calleigh's make up job must've smoked some of that pot in the Escalade. It was garish, and so out of character with her freshness. If it's not the botox, then it's some clown making her up to be some…clown. Ugh…. Let's get the real Calleigh back…NOW!

Is it me, or did Wolfe look like the Fonz  from Happy Days? Hmmm….

There's no need for me to speculate on if H has any color other than black, blue or white in his wardrobe anymore. He doesn't…and that is a tragedy. ALTHOUGH,  he's looking rather fresh himself these days...

Where was Natalia? Did she go missing yet again?

I continue to love Tom. He makes going to the morgue fun again. Point blank. ( And that's not an indiscretion, it's an observation, one that I couldn't fit anywhere else, so I put it here, lol).

Is it me, or is Dave just too super hot for his own good? He makes going to the A/V lab good again:D

All in all, I give this episode an A+. Not only did we get the new and improved team, but the case didn't suck either!  The story flowed almost seamlessly  and I wasn't left  with so many questions ( that's always a good thing). What a great episode, and I cannot wait for next week's either! So much potential!

That's how it crumbled for me,….How about you?

Anni

Posted by Rachel - 11/11/09 at 04:11 pm

Forbes magazine released a list of the ten top-earning men in primetime. The
list was topped by American Idol judge Simon Cowell, who made an estimated $75
million (before taxes) from June 1, 2008 to June 1, 2009. CSI: Miami's leading
man David Caruso (Horatio Caine) came in at number ten on the list with an
estimated salary of $9 million.

Joining the party as usual & giving my (Canadian) buck's worth ...

Great to see "Super Dave" Benton and Travers back from lab rat limbo, but where
art thou Valera? A trifecta would have been nice.

FYI the "annoying angelic music" is a techno remix of "Flower Duet" from the
opera "Lakhme" and it's been used several times on the show - most noteably in
the episode "Prey" from S3. Vampire fans of a certain age may remember the
orginal version from the movie "The Hunger" with Catherine Deneuve and Susan
Sarandon.

Musical digression concluded. Now on to the important stuff.

First off the case itself was WEAK! Body parts, creepy suspects and simplistic
inevstigation. I guess "Criminal Minds" has spoiled me.

The only thing that saved the ep was the interaction between H and Langston. DC
and LF established rapport right out of the gate, with a nice mention of
Catherine and Warrick to maintain the "Cross Jurisdictions" continuity. But
could we please lose the "Dr. Ray" nickname? It was annoying.

Walter, Ryan, and Jesse vs the bear was amusing. I don't know why Ryan's so
snarky this season, but if this is going to be the extent of his emotional
range, maybe Jesse should have waited a few more minutes before tranquing Yogi.

EP's Restalyne OD was less noticable this time, but her lips still looked odd.

The new M.E., yeah the fanboy thing was annoying (and it's been done better; see
the Reid/Rossi interaction in the S3 CM ep "About Face" for comparison), but
let's face it - some people turn into fools when faced with their idols.

All and all, an average episode; great in some places, weak in others. TPTB need
a serious investigative and lab procedure refresher course IMHO. As the intro to
a 3 part arc, it did everything it was supposed to; set up the action. I'll be
interested to see if the NY and Vegas eps will be included on the S8 "Miami"
DVD, as this week's ep would be difficult to watch as a stand alone.

Over all i have to agree with Anni i think they started off fairly well with the episode. I have notice though that in some of the newer Eps. they have kinda backed of Horatio in the opening and the closing scenes a little. Which for me I don't need Horatio to open the show and close the show. I think I get enough of him in between, lets extend the final part of maybe another character at the end to finish up a thought instead of leaving us with Horatio always standing in the Miami Sunset with his glasses on and hands on his hips like hes waiting on the Bat signal to appear in the air.

Oh yeah! Anni the AV tech's name is David Benton! Thought I would help you out and Hell yes the man is Smoken hot! I would love for him to be a CSI so we could get some more Eye candy time from him!  I will have to say 50 thumbs up to TPTB for keeping him around as a bonus to look at !

I really loved the scenes with Wolf, Walter, & Jesse. They are turning out to be the highlight of the show now and they always crack me up. I loved when they started screaming like two girls when the bear started after them! lol ! i was rollin in the floor! And Jesse say don't worry girls Lol! priceless! I think the three stooges have been reborn! I'm just waiting for the eye pokes and the head slaps to start.

Can I just say that i love me some Ray Lankston! As soon as this man came to the cast Of CSI he had me hooked. I just love his character. To bad they didn't get him for Miami. I thought he worked really well with Horatio's character and kinda gave him a little balence and made him seem less cartoon and evasive. I hope they do another Cross over soon with maybe Horatio or one of the others going to Vegas. Maybe they should send Wolfe & Walter that would be so much fun. They would probably end up married to each other lol!

Over all thought I think wit was a good Ep. to watch and had just enough i candy to keep the man watch interesting to say the least!

Now a couple of things that I didn't like !  I'm gonna day this again Tom needs to go! WTF was that spastic Stevie Wonder eye closin head bobbin hyperactive goofy ass trying to do last night! I mean for real! I thought maybe he was having some kind og epileptic fit and they where gonna have to up his dylantan and wash his eyes out ! Did he have something in his eyes ? Was Ray's Smile so white that it was blinding him or somethin? Jeez! Spastic dude go some where elso to have your acid flash backs! Can we get a really actor in hear to play the M.E. Please! Wow! And they talk about Davids acting ! Oh please,

Oh and please cut that stupid Angelic music crap that they were plaing in that one scene with Natalia. Dude that was good for about 5 sec. in the scene in EP.. 7x2 when Eric wore that god awful Butterfly shirt that looked like someone through up colors on it ! Cut the crappie music and get us some good turns please! I like tunes that make me want to jump on line and look for them right away & I don't think that the Angelic Sound is gonna sell any CDs.

OK! there now i feel better ! I'll give this Ep. and A also just because Ryan and Walter Scream lie to little High School girls ! Lol!

Good Tuesday to all! I trust everyone's weathering this week well so far, here in North Carolina, it's a dreary day, good only for sitting back and watching a few Miami episodes and writing fan fiction. Alas, I am working today, but it won't stop me from giving my two cents . As always, if posting before Wednesday, use the spoiler space….And away we go!

What sets this episode apart, and sets the mood is the opening sequence. There's no posturing here, it hits the ground running so to speak. We don't get an all famous Horatio line, just a sort of urgency that really got my attention from the start. I still don't like that they are cueing the theme song while the actors are still talking, but hey, what can you do (It was only cool in Season five's opener, Rio, but I digress)? I would love for them to rethink that.

As far as the episode is concerned, at first glance, this is the same area we treaded before in a crossover, but there's just something so alarming and unhinging about the abduction of Ashley Tanner. Such a small towner, coming to the big city , only to get swallowed into the vices and depravity of it is harrowing. All the time I was watching, I was wondering, just how many small town girls go to the big city with hopes of making it big only to be duped into a life that she didn't see coming. Poor Ashley never saw that the valet would be soulless or that the smarmy supposed media king would take advantage of her or that she would meet such a grizzly demise ( alive no less) from that slime ball. It was what kept me riveted to the set for most of the hour, and what set this ep apart from the start.

The emergence of Ray Langston from Las Vegas was something I was looking forward to, and was not disappointed. From his conference call from a very smiling and bright, and (GASP!) personable Calleigh to his initial meeting with Horatio, I'm glad they waited until Ray was on the scene to do a crossover with these two shows. I loved how in the initial conversation between Horatio and Ray, Horatio acknowledges the tragic loss of Warrick ( spotting continuity between shows- whodda thought!). It was a heart rendering one to be sure, especially for those who have been around from the first crossover that brought about Miami (Cross Jurisdictions) . I just love when the shows can merge the magic in the right way. I also love how Ray brings a tenacity and a certain buoyancy to his job, and he is certainly the most engaging from Vegas ( but that is solely my opinion). He wants to get to the meat of the crime, search out every angle and leave no room for error. He is an intellectual first and law enforcement official second, providing a wonderful contrast to Horatio's crime fighter demeanor. And the fact that Ray had no problems with asking for help in the investigation and welcomed Horatio's thoughts and theories was such a blast! I loved to see David and Laurence share the screen ( they have both worked with each other before on the movie King of New York. Very gritty, but they both chew up scenery). You can see that there's an easiness that comes with them, and it translates seamlessly on screen. I found it slightly amusing that the moment that Dr. Ray ( as Horatio coins him) lands, Horatio slips into his New York accent absently. Maybe it was just me, but I loved it nonetheless. I say, definitely, let these two work a case together again.

Aside from the crossover, it becomes a run of a mill episode. I do love that everyone was visible (Natalia and Wolfe in the smarmy media king's room was a hoot) and I was doubly amused at Walter. I continue to find things to love about the new guy on the block- his scene with the bear and Wolfe was easily, the best of the night. In Jesse's limited air time with the two, I continue to say that these three make Miami watchable again.

Another great thing about this episode- Calleigh Duquesne. I haven't seen this much life from her since I don't know when. It's warming to see her coming about once again, and as in true Calleigh fashion, she calls everything like a spade. I knew from the instance that Calleigh called out the girl that was with that weird looking guy in the bar using Ashley's card, that the girl was in trouble. And sure enough, she's left a note in an unmentionable restroom that she's toast. The guy just looks like he's trouble; it's too bad that they couldn't get him on that alone. I have to wonder if he's the guy at the center of this whole thing.

In an episode that I thought would have its ups and downs, I'm impressed. With the exception of the rotating guest stars who were previously some other criminal/ victim (something they need to stop, like ASAP) I think this was executed very well. The crossovers are usually done without much flair, but if this is a fair judge of how this begins, then I'm in it for the last two installments (thank god for DVR is all I'm saying). I think the franchise has started something- I just hope that they end it on a great note.

I'm giving this ep an A , cause it was that good, and GASP! – we get two recurring characters! Travers and the A/V guy( whose name fails me, but that doesn't matter, because he's smokin'). I hope that we can see more of them as the season continues on.
That's how it crumbled for me….What about you?

Anni

The episode pulled in 13.83 million viewers and a 4.0 rating/11 share among

Good Tuesday to all! I trust everyone's weathering this week well so far, here
in North Carolina, it's a dreary day, good only for sitting back and watching a
few Miami episodes and writing fan fiction. Alas, I am working today, but it
won't stop me from giving my two cents . As always, if posting before
Wednesday, use the spoiler space….And away we go!

What sets this episode apart, and sets the mood is the opening sequence.
There's no posturing here, it hits the ground running so to speak. We don't get
an all famous Horatio line, just a sort of urgency that really got my attention
from the start. I still don't like that they are cueing the theme song while the
actors are still talking, but hey, what can you do (It was only cool in Season
five's opener, Rio, but I digress)? I would love for them to rethink that.

As far as the episode is concerned, at first glance, this is the same area we
treaded before in a crossover, but there's just something so alarming and
unhinging about the abduction of Ashley Tanner. Such a small towner, coming to
the big city , only to get swallowed into the vices and depravity of it is
harrowing. All the time I was watching, I was wondering, just how many small
town girls go to the big city with hopes of making it big only to be duped into
a life that she didn't see coming. Poor Ashley never saw that the valet would be
soulless or that the smarmy supposed media king would take advantage of her or
that she would meet such a grizzly demise ( alive no less) from that slime ball.
It was what kept me riveted to the set for most of the hour, and what set this
ep apart from the start.

The emergence of Ray Langston from Las Vegas was something I was looking forward
to, and was not disappointed. From his conference call from a very smiling and
bright, and (GASP!) personable Calleigh to his initial meeting with Horatio, I'm
glad they waited until Ray was on the scene to do a crossover with these two
shows. I loved how in the initial conversation between Horatio and Ray, Horatio

OK, I this this ep should be shown to the wrtiers back-to-back with "YMNKTB",
just to show them that yes they *have* done this plotline before... and it was
just as stupid the first time 'round.

Good to see "The Frankinator" back in action "'I don't remember', usually menas
'I've done somethin' illegal and don't want to get caught'!" Frankie, I've
missed you, welcome back!

All through this ep I was wondering of H was saying to himself "Thank God, I
went fot the $25 civil ceremony!" BTW, whatever DC did to relax over the
pre-season hiatus has worked big time; the man looks smokin'!

Loved Ryan's little territory spat with the M.E. over the green flake on the
body.

Walter took Art History? Love it! The whole Matisse scene was a riot. And the
man has screen cred now, NY's A.J. Buckley and Vegas's Wallace Langham must be
so proud ...

Calleigh's lip inflation issue was less noticable this time out. Now if she can
just show some emotion. The scene with Jesse and the stripper was a good start,
I'm still trying to decide if this was good-cop-bad-cop or if she was genuinely
confused.

Eric doing the PI thing? Guess he's hedging in case "Ugly Betty" gets cancelled.

Next week's the start of the 3 series crossover. Can't wait!

In a first, I came into this episode without an air of expectation. Maybe it
was the lack of visual, or maybe it's just one of those things, but I don't
know, something felt off about this one. The very first thing I see in the
credits>>>> Adam Rodriquez is missing. Eric's finally left the building but…( if

he's going to be making appearances ala Yelina and doing the private

Miller! I absolutely adore Walter in every capacity, and I'm stoked that he's
apart of the cast, but can I just lay to mention the techs of the past that
would've made rockin' cast additions?

Maxine Valera: She's an enigma, sporadic spotting, and a different hair do
EVERYTIME. She's likeable spunky, and has the tendency to put her foot in her
mouth with off the wall jokes. I would LOVE to see her become full time, but if
it hasn't happened yet, chances are this chic tech isn't going to make it.

Tyler: Resident A/V … dor-I mean technician. I loved Tyler and his so many ways
of telling us that he didn't know why he settled for A/V tech at a crime lab
when there was soooooooooo much more he could be doing with his skills. Maybe he

Travers: Even though he lasted only a season ( or was it two?) he made a lasting
impression on me. Just by the absolutely darling English accent, I miss him. And
he was clever to boot. He definitely would've made such a great trace analyst.

I say all of this to say one thing, let's hope that Walter is the last of the
revolving techs.

Now, getting to the plot. It took me no time at all to realize that this was a
very…um …interesting retread of The Hangover. I much liked the movie version
better. After the first twenty minutes, I was dozing, or chatting, or
writing…doing anything other than watching. Some things caught my eye, but only
for a moment , like Jesse and Calleigh visiting the strip club( by the way, why

INVOLVED in some capacity. It isn't until later that we find that she was put up
to drugging the boys and helping the father of the bride out. Victim is what I
see her as….

Then there was something about a painting missing and a security guard being
killed… all of that was drowned out by other rah rah ramblings that I just
couldn't pay attention to. Seriously, this episode was a blur to me, something
I've not had since well…season five.

Some good things:

Jesse

Ryan wasn't a dunce

Walter was in the lab doing his thing and had a scene with H.

Natalia was visible

Jesse

Tom went out on scene and had witty banter with Ryan

Horatio got his MIAMI DADE PD…. GET DOWN! voice back…

Horatio's pose with the helicopter in the background at the end to let everyone
know…Miami's still his town

End credits

Some bad things:

Plot

Walter in the lab ( and not with his buddy, Jesse. There should be a mandate
that these two HAVE to share at least one scene together.)

Calleigh in the stripper club ( can someone else go with the boys next time)

PLOT

Calleigh in the stripper club (Wasn't this done in You May Kill the Bride?)

The wedding pretense ( again…. You May Kill the Bride)

Abstract about the painting

The Father of the bride…
PLOT

And…. PLOT

In a first, I'm going to give this episode , personally, a D-. I wasn't in the
least bit involved with this story. I didn't care that the groom finally was
found,…ALIVE, and frankly, just about everyone annoyed me- well everyone except
Walter and Jesse, but I digress… I just wanted it to end so I could see the
promo for the next episode, which looks to be EPIC. Until then, this one's going
down in the books as….not so much.

That's how it crumbled for me….What do you think?

And they say our love of the show has no practical uses:)

From CSI Files:

Young `Miami' Fan Catches Burglar
Posted by Rachel - 28/10/09 at 02:10 pm

A young CSI: Miami fan from the United Kingdom helped police catch a burglar
using knowledge he learned from the show.

Leon Yates is a 12-year-old Miami fan from Bolton, England. The boy was on his
way home from school when he saw Daniel Jones acting suspiciously before
breaking into a home. Yates realized Jones was a burglar and saw a can of
lemonade the man tossed on the ground. He picked up the can with a brush and put
it in a freezer bag, which he then gave to the police. He also gave a detailed
description of Jones, enabling the police to arrest the man. Jones has been
convicted of 50 previous offences, and he was put in jail for two years and five
months after pleading guilty earlier this week.

"I watch CSI: Miami because my sister Toni watches it on TV and I have seen what
they do," Leon said. "I think my mates will be quite impressed; they don't know
anything about it. I just forgot about it after it happened but I am proud."

"This was an absolutely superb bit of detective work from Leon, whose
quick-thinking and bravery led directly to the arrest of a serial burglar," said
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Hitchin, the head of the Bolton Criminal
Investigation Division. Yates' neighbour Florence Hill added, "Leon is wonderful
really. I can't thank him enough. I am very lucky to have him next door."

Terminal klutziness. I slipped on a pile of wet leaves and fell. Got a nice set
of B&B's to show for it. My hand got wrenched as I tried to prevent a faceplant.

It's weird, EP's looking bad while DC looks pretty good. Maybe someone in the
makeup dept/lighting crew has a bone to pick? Or maybe DC just has a better
surgeon.

Actually, compared to the S7 silliness, this season is shaping up pretty well
storywise. I think it says a lot about our litigeous society that when anything
happens people start asking "when's the civil suit being filed?"

Ironically the civil suit would actually be *more* sucessful than criminal
charges in this case. The food company would end up paying through the nose in
out-of-court settlements to avoid bad press. If you want to hurt 'em where it
counts, hit them in the wallet!

Hope everything works out for you :)

  Hi All,
Hi Anni,

Sorry my 2 cents is so delayed; busy week and I jammed my left hand falling on the way to my volunteer job.   How's the hand, Lady A?  That's gotta hurt!  What did you do to it? This is the first day I've been able to move my fingers without pain.

Thank God somebody else piked up on EP's possible Botox/Restyline OD.   Possible? Sorry to say this (and I really do like EP!), but the Angelina pout is overkill!  You'd have to be blind to see the Bo overload!   My Mom and I thought we were the only ones saying "don't her lips look distorted?" Very distracting.

Otherwise, I agree with everything you said, except that I could see the civil suit coming a mile off.  I'm with you too!  The plots, storylines are getting pretty transparent...

Everyone seems to be on hiatus this week, so see ya in the first week of Nov!  My excuse for being MIA here is actually court-related: child custody, support, divorce.  Nobody messes with LawDog's lil puppy!

The Origin Of Horatio's Shades Is Revealed
Posted by Rachel - 26/10/09 at 12:10 pm

Discover the source of Horatio Caine's iconic sunglasses and the role CSI:
Miami's leading man David Caruso had in choosing just the right pair.

Greg B, assistant to Miami's executive producer Ann Donahue, penned a post on
the official CSI: Miami blog at CBS.com to share the secrets of Horatio's
signature shades. The sunglasses are from Silhouette (model 8568/65 6062), and
they were manufactured at the company's headquarters in Austria. However, fans
probably won't be able to get their hands on a pair. "[T]hey stopped fabricating
this model over three years ago," Greg explained. "The last batch was kindly
donated to CSI: Miami by Silhouette. There are only around 130 pairs that still
roam in the wild today, and they all nest inside a black-steel cabinet, stashed
and padlocked in the props office on the studio lot."

"There are always around ten pairs on set," revealed Assistant Props Master Katy
Mau. Caruso is given a pair at the beginning of the day, and he hands them back
when he has finished filming his scenes. Aside from CBS promotional appearances,
Caruso doesn't wear his signature sunglasses while not in character.

"Damaged pairs are also held by the props department," Greg continued. "During
the many rigors of television production, they do occasionally become dirty,
scratched, or more rarely, completely broken. Pairs declared K.I.A are simply
swapped out with a fresh set, and the departed set to rest in the cabinet with
the other optic casualties."

"We still get emails from fans about where they can find them," Mau said. "I'd
say your best chance would be to search eBay." Property Master Bob Good said a
pair of the glasses would "run you about 175 dollars a pair" if you were able to
find them.

The original pair of shades was chosen by Caruso himself. "It was two days
before we were shooting the first episode, "Cross Jurisdictions", in Miami,"
Good shared. "The first time we met. He told me he had gone to a store, picked
out a certain style, and reserved three pairs." The next day, Greg added, "Bob
found the store and bought all of them."

Script Coordinator Pens Recent `Miami' Episode
Posted by Rachel - 26/10/09 at 11:10 am

Script coordinator Robert Hornak works in the Writers' Department for CSI:
Miami. He recently got the chance to earn his first writing credit for the
fourth episode of the show's eighth season, "In Plane Sight".

Hornak's job description includes reading "every script draft that comes down
the pike, scanning for errors of any kind, from simple typos to story
inconsistencies, making sure they don't end up in the final draft for all the
world to see," he explained in a recent post on the official CSI: Miami blog on
CBS.com. "Good job if you're looking to get a front row seat to big-time TV," he
added. "GREAT job if the people at the switch are as generous as this writing
staff. Thanks to them, that's my name you saw listed as `written by' in the
opening credits of `In Plane Sight,' our Episode 804. For the first time, I got
to follow a script on its trip through the guts of the process, from inception
to airing."

"I remember the first day of `breaking' the story — the process of turning
disconnected possibilities into a coherent story outline," Hornak explained. "I
was amazed that so many ideas were coming out of the writers' heads, some
sticking to the dry erase board, some dying a quiet death in the air just above
the gum packets in the center of the table. I remember sitting there, finally
understanding in a much more three-dimensional way that our scripts are not just
written, but wrestled into submission by some wickedly dark imaginations."

When he sat down to write the first draft of the script, Hornak was confident
that he had Horatio Caine (David Caruso) and the other characters down pat.
After all, he'd spent three years reading the writers' scripts for the series.
"I was wrong," he revealed. "Because it's not just putting words into the
characters' mouths, it's finding a way to carry an entire story inside your
head, knowing how this moment comes out of the last and how it fits with the
next, and being able to find the emotional heart of a forensic-driven scene.
Bottom line: not easy."

During the first day of shooting "In Plane Sight", things started to come
together for Hornak. For the first time, he heard the actors speaking the words
he'd written on paper. "It was then that things really clicked," he said, "and
the script became a living, breathing thing."

"I remember the first time I sat in James Wilcox's editing bay, watching an
early `rough cut' of the episode," Hornak continued. "The moments I'd seen on
set were now, miraculously, pulsing with the vibrancy of an episode. That `big',
cinematic scope of the image, married to techno music and rudimentary sound
effects – even in this early stage, it was a clear demonstration of how
everyone's talents come together for something much larger than the sum of its
parts."

"The producers aim for a feature film every week, and they reach it on a
comparatively small budget with a fraction of the preparatory time," he said. "I
thought I knew all this going in. But seeing it first-hand helped me to truly
understand and respect the people I work with."

Rest In Peace, James Linn
Posted by Rachel - 25/10/09 at 11:10 pm

Oklahoma City attorney James P Linn died Saturday, October 24 at the age of 83.
Linn suffered a stroke several years ago, and his health began to decline. His
son, Rex Linn, is familiar to fans of CSI: Miami as the actor who portrays
Detective Frank Tripp.

"Law, rather than women, is my reason for living," Linn once said. "My first
love is the courtroom. It's a passion with me. All my adult life, nothing's
meant more to me than the courtroom. I'd live there if they'd let me. After
that, my favorite `thing' is people. You have to like people to succeed in this
business."

Gasol Guest Stars On `Miami'
Posted by Rachel - 25/10/09 at 06:10 pm

LA Lakers basketball player Pau Gasol will guest-star in an upcoming episode of
CSI: Miami. (Minor spoilers after the jump.)

"It was a very attractive opportunity," Gasol said of the Miami role. "I play
Victor, a normal person who is involved in a car accident and police are
suspicious that I am responsible for what happened. I have good, meaty dialogue
with an officer."

"I have always had the acting bug inside me," he added. "What this city gives me
are opportunities. I'm in the best team in the league, I'm one of the best
franchises and this is the city where it happens all the movies."

The 29-year-old is seven feet tall, and he has a busy basketball schedule. For
those reasons, Gasol doesn't search out more acting roles. "It's not so easy
because of my physical characteristics," he said. "They break with the norm,
with the size of conventional actor. They are usually short and it is difficult
to find roles for someone my size."

Hi all! Well, I've managed to make time to get this review out on time ( a first, I know), but I happened to be able to stay awake this week and catch the show  in its entirety. Here are a few of my thoughts about it all. As always, if responding before Wednesday,  use the spoiler space. And away we go….

I have to point out right away, any episode that begins with Alexx Woods is a good episode. It was awesome to see her once more, and to see that her concern for  Eric was still intact. This is clearly a relationship eight years in the making  that sticks, and it's believable.  Alexx always conveyed a sort of parent  vibe when it concerned her  colleagues, and here it is no different.  She's never gone overboard with her concern, and just like a mother, she spots out quickly that there's something amiss with Eric and she calls him out on it. Before Eric can explain how he's feeling, the action ramps up, and we don't get to hear his confession of  feeling out of sorts. I  really would've liked to have seen him express himself to Alexx about this, but we can see as the scene progresses, that Eric's clearly not  `with it'.  Early on, it's apparent that he's come to a decision about something and it's weighing heavily on him.

With the impending change coming, however, it was nice to see the team assembled again. I don't think there's been a scene with ALL of the team together in the layout room since season one (Golden Parachute). I liked the fact that the team was there , but it was missing one person: Jesse. I don't know if it was because he was the new guy in camp, and this was Delko's swan song, but to me, team means team, and Jesse should've been a part of it. I personally thought it  had more to do with the whole changing of the guard situation than anything else, but nevertheless, that didn't take away from the moment. It was refreshing to see Horatio interact with his team and show the effectiveness of his leadership. I would love to see more of this in the future.

Something I don't want to see more of, is Ryan being dumbed down.  How am I to believe that someone who was  strict  enough  about protocols to in season three  to tell Calleigh that if she was coming on the scene of his investigation of her father to put her hands in her pockets, would just trounce over the most important protocol there is : obtaining a warrant. The line that Ryan gave was not only stupid, but highly stereotypical and turned out to be false. The farmer was very much well aware of his rights and schooled Ryan quite proper. I winced at the fact that Ryan had Jesse and Walter in on it, and  Jesse's quick thinking with the illegal workers was the only thing that saved that.  Here's a note to TPTB: Stop fooling around with characters, it's not working. Either shape Ryan up, or kick him off, but don't continue to insult  the CSI's. His off the wall comment and demeanor just looks bad.

A surprise: Natalia Boa Vista was very visible in this episode, and that's a good thing. My most enjoyable scene was when  she was testing the corn and  was being pressured by  the others to produce. She let them know that as soon as she got the results, they would have them and not a moment sooner. Natalia's become such a strong character, I wish that they would utilize her more. It's a waste if they don't.

A dislike: The whole contaminated food plot. I know it happens, more than I would like to admit, but it grosses me out. After seeing the misadventures of the growers, the transportation and the dolling out of contaminated food, I practically swore off salads, corn and a few more things. I do like, however that they did shed light on the fact that  not everything that is said to be organic isn't, and that politics plays a heavy role in just about everything we do  in life.  Kudos to CSI Miami for shedding that light.

Another dislike: Delko's inability to hold on to his anger in the questioning of the  health department agent. Yes, she's was ridiculous and yes, she deserved the dressing down that Horatio gave her, but Delko was treading on thin ice. I know it was done to show how out of touch he was with the job, but his anger bursting out in an interrogation/ questioning is not new. But now that his perception is more askew, I suppose it was what was needed.

I'm going to veer for a second  and say that Calleigh was a mixed bag of sorts. Yes, this had nothing to do with the show or the case, but the fact that her lips were turned in a perpetual frown had me distracted. Is she going too far with the botox? Does she not like the story line? WHAT?  I happen to go with the botox theory;  even when showing emotion,  Calleigh's face barely moved. Emily Procter's a very beautiful woman,  it's my personal opinion that she should let nature take it's course. She's only forty for cripes sake, she's not going to shrivel up and wither away. That's enough of me being superficial :D

The ending of this ep was one that everyone saw coming, but wasn't prepared for it. Eric and Calleigh's scene was nice and demure, and held the right amount of questions and ponders about the future, and finally stakes why he's leaving. I knew from the moment that Delko was shot in Season five, that he was on borrowed time. I was just glad that they chose not to take him out violently, and allowed him to make that decision himself. What was disappointing to me was that there was no face time with Horatio. Yes, it's implied that their relationship is deeper, but for those who don't see their lives away from the lab, it would've been great to see that personal  touch to the send off. A letter on the windshield just didn't do it for me.

As always,  the team of Jesse and Walter was a knockout. It is my hope that they continue to have this as an occurring theme, it's nice to get a fresh perspective in the grand scheme of things. Walter provides this. What I'm waiting for is  Omar's name in the credits, because he really has  made a place for himself there. Not to screw over our resident lab techs, but seriously, Walter's had more screen time than Valera in all of her  seasons with the show, and it's only five shows into the season! I think there's a message there….

All in all, I give the ep an A. I thought that it was good that they didn't focus on Eric's departure much ( as par for the norm for Miami). It was a good mixture of odd ball humor, seriousness and dedication, and I can only hope that the rest of the season follows suit. Five shows in….and getting better!

That's how it crumbled for me….what did you think?

Given that last week's ep was kinda light in the plot dept., I found this week's
much better. Whatever the writer's are smoking or imbibing is clearly doing some
good, cross fingers that the trend holds for the whole season.

I agree that Frank working the case would never happen in RL, but one the
Miamiverse scale of suspension of disbelief this little screw up was relatively
minor.

H is indeed looking fine. Good lighting, Botox... who cares? The biggest
improvement is that the MIB's slow desecent to "Robocopness" appears to have
stalled (and it only took 3 years to do it). I credit this to one simple thing;
Jesse Cardoza. DC and EC work well together, and they had immediate rapport from
their first scene together.

I'm reserving judgement on the new ME. Usually I told subscribe to conspiracy
theories, but one almost wonders if TPTB aren't holding their breath for
Khandi's current cable project to tank so they can ask her back. Stranger things
have happened.

What's up with Ryan and the sweater-vest? Didn't he burn that thing at the end
of S3? Still it gave Walter and Jesse a giggle. The "Three Amigos" indeed, who
says a crime scene can't be a laugh riot?

Hi Anni,

Hope everything in RL's back to normal for you.

The rich may get richer, but at what price? Was all that money worth the stress,
public humiliation, tearing up a family, being murdered in a gruesome way & your
only son going to jail for?

It's am eye-opener to see H in the lab, in the field & interacting completely
within the team again. Way overdue. And yes, H is looking fine indeed! :)

Ryan's no longer the snake he was previously. The bad skin has been shed (for
good I hope!) & he's very likeable now.

Loved the last scene with Ryan, Walter & Jesse. Lots of dynamics there.

And speaking of Jesse, big yes on him & Calleigh hooking up! She needs a man as
mature as she is. Not only is he a pro, but he's still got a heart. Getting that
one guy a job at an apartment via a friend/contact was so empathethic.

On a technical note, Frank had no right to be involved in a case he was
indirectly a part of. Too close to the source. (You'd IAB/Stetler would've
caught wind of that & said "Uh uh! Reassign him to another case. Now.")

No one even mentioned Nat in this ep. That was strange. Valera's been MIA for
awhile too. Anyone else find this odd?

Speaking of strange, not too sure about this new ME. Seems kinda bi-polar. Last
week, he's all over the place with H pointing out critical medical findings &
this week the ME is as calm as Buddha. What's up with that??

Really like the new three amigos-Ryan, Walter & Jesse. Great interaction
happening there. Walter calling Ryan Shorty really killed me! :)

SPOILER ZONE-we all know's what going to happen with a certain seriously injured
character & while it's sad, we know it's inevitable. I'm positive his family
will be as supportive as always.

LOT of people are pissed off about it. This was captured perfectly in this
episode, especially the crowd mania that accompanied when it was revealed that
the wife was now working to save some kind of life for her and her child. She
was the only one who seemed remorseful and shockingly out of the loop with the
whole situation. Hers is the true tragedy of the story: she did nothing but
provide a face and a name and she's losing everything. It was a shame that she
had to go through this, and not only did she lose her way of life ( which is
something she can live through, undoubtedly) but she also lost her loser husband
and her equally loser son. I'm harsh on the son because he's walking in the same
inroads that his father was, just perpetuating the cycle all over again. He was
all about himself, and not about the investors that lost so much at his father's
hands. I was quickly over his argument that he was due that money because he
helped his father- that was a load of malarkey. It just goes to show that the
apple, in most cases, doesn't fall far from the tree.

it out of the park in this matter. I think the infusion of new blood (er…old
blood if you count that Jesse's been there before), has had a hand in it. It's
sad that this is coming on the heels of a departure of a long time , beloved (
by some) character. But, in order for this franchise not to die a slow death, it
was time for change. The team seems rejuvenated, even H is getting into the
grove of things! I also think that the infusion of humor is assisting in this as
well. Ryan is actually , …likeable. The scene between he and Jesse in the
beginning was just hilarious, and I found myself laughing well after the scene
was done. It's the tiny details that makes the difference. This isn't the same
show of two years ago, heck, even a year ago. Change, in this case ,was just
what this show, and this team needed. And you have to admit, Walter and Jesse
together just light up the screen with their familiar, friendly banter.

of mystery to Jesse. No one really knows why he came back out of the blue, and
when Walter inquires into a phone call that Jesse made, asking if it was a
woman, and Jesse replies cryptically that it was in a manner, this is leading me
to believe that he has a daughter somewhere in Miami. Of course, I could be
wrong, but wouldn't that just fuel all the fan fics that would follow if I were
right? I did love the fact that Jesse stood up and did a good thing for the guy
who lost everything to Burgess, helping him back on his feet by providing him
with a job and a place for him and his family. That just struck such a genuine
cord with me. This Jesse might be a keeper…

In Plane Sight 8x04

Hi all!
I have to apologize, RL just hit me in the face this week and shockingly, I
missed out on the last fifteen minutes of the show. Now that I've screened the
last fifteen minutes, I am now ready to give my thoughts to the world.
Unfortunately, this one may be a bit brief, due to the fact that I was almost
comatose when I watched both times ( I hope that isn't telling of anything).
Without further ado….

I have to say, I do love it when procedurals go after the "ripped from the
headlines" storyline. Although I haven't really followed the Bernie Madoff
adventures, I can garner one or two things: The dude stole a LOT of money, and a
LOT of people are pissed off about it. This was captured perfectly in this

Details Emerge About The Three-Way Crossover

Posted by Rachel - 13/10/09 at 03:10 pm

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's Dr Raymond Langston (Laurence Fishburne) will
follow the evidence to CSI: Miami and CSI: New York before returning to the Las
Vegas Crime Lab. (Spoilers after the jump.)

As CSI Files previously reported, all three members of the CSI franchise will
take part in a crossover during November sweeps. The episodes will air the week
of November 9. The story starts in Miami when Horatio Caine (David Caruso) and
his team discover a severed leg that belongs to a girl that went missing from
Las Vegas the week before. Langston travels to Miami to solve the case. He is
soon on the way to New York City after a girl he interviewed turns up in the Big
Apple. The girl was hidden inside a semi-trailer truck. After the girl
disappears, Langston and Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) discover an interstate
trucking ring that specializes in human trafficking and organ harvesting. The
investigation then leads Langston back to Las Vegas, where the team discovers a
prostitution ring that might be harboring the missing woman.

"The story is really a ticking clock story," CSI: NY executive producer Peter
Lenkov said of the New York portion of the storyline. "It is really a hunt for a
suspect, but also saving a girl's life. I think we put blinders on to get that
done by the end of the episode. This [case] takes priority because it is real
triage the way it lands in our lap. We realize soon after that time is of the
essence. We elected in that episode to make it our sole focus."

"They are all great episodes that blend together and lead you to the next," New
York executive producer Pam Veasey said. The challenge was to incorporate the
crossover while still maintaining the integrity of each series. "Everyone stays
true to their writing style," Veasey explained. "What you fundamentally do is
tell a CSI story, which is what we all have in common. Once it gets to your
show, you will see each of the show's take a different approach to a story that
starts in Miami. We did all get together and talk about what the through-line
would be. Obviously, Ray Langston travels through all of the shows. You have to
find the consistencies with his character, how he would flow into each story."

La Rue Calls For Religious Freedom In Iran

Posted by Rachel - 13/10/09 at 11:10 pm

CSI: Miami actress Eva La Rue (Natalia Boa Vista) is one of the celebrities
taking part in "Belief Behind Bars" – A Call for Human Rights and Religious
Freedom in Iran.

The event will take place Wednesday, October 14 in Los Angeles, California.
"Belief Behind Bars" will feature guest speakers and a variety of international
musical guests, as well as a coalition of religious leaders from Southern
California. The event is meant to show strong support for seven leaders of the
Baha'i Faith in Iran who have been imprisoned for more than a year on trumped up
charges.

The seven prisoners are Mrs. Fariba Kamalabadi, Mr. Jamaloddin Khanjani, Mr.
Afif Naeimi, Mr. Saeid Rezaie, Mrs. Mahvash Sabet, Mr. Behrouz Tavakkoli, and
Mr. Vahid Tizfahm. Together they make up a national committee of Baha'i
leadership in Iran. The prisoners have been denied access to their attorney,
Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Shirin Ebadi, and could face the death penalty at
their upcoming trial on October 18.

Baha'is make up the largest non-Muslim minority in Iran, and they suffer
discrimination from the Iranian government. Baha'is are not allowed to hold
government jobs or receive government pensions, and young people of the Baha'i
faith are not allowed to attend institutions of higher learning. U.S. Senate
Resolution 71 (SR71) is currently in committee and "(1) condemns the Government
of Iran for its state-sponsored persecution of the Baha'i minority in Iran and
its continued violation of the International Covenants on Human Rights; and (2)
calls on the Government of Iran to immediately release the seven leaders and all
other prisoners held solely on account of their religion."

"Belief Behind Bars" is a free admission event. The event will be hosted by
actor and comedian Rainn Wilson (The Office). La Rue will be a presenter along
with Anthony Azizi (24, Lost).
