I haven't read the comments, but I know I just saw the news headline and my
first reaction was "oh no!". Not because they're making the movie, but because
I'm afraid of how badly they may mess things up.
I think it's because too many people, including me, have been burned and/or
disappointed by really lousy big-screen versions of TV shows (and too many
crappy movie adaptations of books - see Seeker, Eragon, etc.). Other than some
of the Star Trek movies, I can't recall too many movies based on TV shows that I
really liked. Starsky & Hutch may be one of the few, and I still can't explain
why I liked it (other than the laughing fit I had with the Original S&H turned
up at the end).
I am not ballistic over the fact that they're *making* a movie, I'm just
wondering how badly they'll mess it up. I'd love to see a Mac movie, especially
if RDA was involved. On the other hand, if they try to update things and cast
some handsome-but-talentless person as MacGyver, and turn it into some sort of
comedy, I'll be very disappointed.
Basically, I'll be wondering if I should see the movie and risk being
disappointed, or just stick with the DVDs and the happy memories. Sometimes,
I'd rather keep my old, fuzzy-happy memories of something, instead of having
that happiness connected with something new that leaves a bad aftertaste.
(Does that make any sense? It's Monday, and I don't think it's as coherent as
it could be.)
