Okay, so I keep catching tv shows for the first time after they've been stuffed
& mounted,
then sold on DVD. I finally got (after a faulty-set Amazon fiasco) my copy of
Wonderfalls,
and I need to figure out chronology of shows.

I must digress for a moment to just say that as a Whedonverse & Dead Like Me
Fan, I had
big hopes for Wonderfalls and 1.5 episodes in I already think it majorly sucks
that FOX
gave it the Friday-Night-Death-Slot sendoff.

Anyhow, Pink Flamingoes. So I'm watching and Jaye says something about her
sister and
dad going to have waffles. That's got to be a Dead Like Me reference,
and since I
know that particular chronology goes Bryan Fuller creates Dead Like Me, then
leaves/is
forced out, and goes on to create Wonderfalls. So that one was obvious.

My main question is on the Tim Minear side of things. Where does Wonderfalls
fall within
the seasons of Angel & Firefly? At one point Jaye says the universe has it's
hand up her ass
and she is its puppet. "Smile Time" reference? And it may be a coincidence of
word
choice, but shortly afterwards, Mahandra says she will help with the shindig.
Is that a
"Shindig" reference?

Lastly, was anyone from Veronica Mars involved with Wonderfalls? At the bar
while they
are setting up for the shindig the song that is the VM theme is playing in the
background,
and I am firmly certain that Wonderfalls wrapped before Mars premiered...

There doesn't seem to be any actor crossover between WF and VM. I
suspect it's partly because Wonderfalls is predominately a
Canadian-based production using mostly Canadian actors. That's not to
say that there aren't many Canadian actors in US-based works. After
all, our own beloved Kaylee Frye (Jewel Staite) is a Canadian girl.
And, to haul this back to topic, she appeared in 4 episodes of
Wonderfalls as the Eric the bartender's cheating bride.

Fox is well known for signing good show only to kill them off with bad
programming decisions. Firefly, The Tick, etc.

the only Wonderfalls/Veronica Mars Match up I know of
is the song..but i would not be surprised if it ever
does happen. there are definately VM/Buffy actor
crossovers (Alison Hannigan) and I know I have seen
other things...

Don't forget that after Wonderfalls, Tim Minear went on to do The
Inside. Which then got cancelled by Fox.

A few questions for you wonderful browncoats.
#1 - Does anyone have "Mal's Song" by Escape Key?? And would you be
willing to send it to me??

#2 - Any more Browncoat shindigs coming up that I should know about?

#3 - Is it true that they AREN'T making any more Firefly movies?? I heard they
weren't. But that would suck. So I'm guessing no.

thanks,
Ariella

Ariella,

1) I think I have a separate copy of Mal's song but I don't think it
is the best version of it. Can your e-mail handle my e-mailing it to you?

2) As far as I know "MarsCon" will be the next Browncoat "gathering".

3) From what I've heard we are virtually guaranteed there will be more
movies. What is not clear is how they will be produced. Perhaps
direct to SciFi Channel, perhaps direct to DVD... there is a good
chance they won't be released at theaters. But Joss has said
*numerous* times he will continue telling the story in whatever form
he can (but my interpretation is that Joss wants to be a big shot
movie guy so he is pushing movies not TV). A TV series is a definite
possibility but probably not for a few years and probably not in a
recognizable form (probably a totally different cast).

I have a good copy. It's currently in RealPlayer format. Can convert to WMA or MP3 - which would you prefer?

EVERYONE IS INVITED!
If you're anywhere near the Holiday Inn Select on March 4, come on in!
Sit a spell, converse!

CONTRIBUTIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED!
Needed for the Room: $225
Current Contributions: $70*
*currency is in-hand - See CONTRIBUTIONS section below

PARTY DESCRIPTION
Put on your brown coats, shine up your boots and come toast the best
gorram crew in the 'verse. View episodes and pick up some really shiny
Firefly gear. We'll discuss character theory, all the whatifs, and
psychoanalyze Joss Whedon all the way to the black and back.

Party Room Map:
http://marscon.org/2006/hotel/parties.php

VOLUNTEERS
We'll need some help in the area of hosting, particularly if the party
room is to be open Friday night. Now we're not too shy to ask for help
- in fact, we're not too shy at all, but that's another story. The
hours will be short. Promise.

If you're willing to help out, please e-mail me ag channain@...

CONTRIBUTIONS
Nobody likes to talk money, but here's the thing: At the convention
rate, the room will cost $89 + tax + an extra fee to have the beds
removed. I booked us for two nights, mainly to give us some time for
set up on Friday. However, much as I'd like to, I can't foot the bill
all by myself.

Our first contribution was taken at the MarsCon meeting on Sunday.
(thanks Mary Mac!) I know others here have mentioned their willingness
to help out with the financial end of this. If you're still willing,
please e-mail me at channain@....

See you all at MarsCon!

We will keep the room open for as long as we have a 'dependable core member'
(DCM) of the group there to babysit.

It would be nice to have a group of volunteers who would be willing to be a
DCM for a few hours throughout the weekend.

I'm volunteering as a track wrangler and will have to be in my presentation
room during my hours. Channain coordinates the art gallery and sleeps
there.

I'll put together a spread sheet and we'll get folks to volunteer for 2 or 3
hour shifts as room DCM.

Barbara, what does Hot Topic have for shirts though? When I looked
them up online (a month ago?), I think there was only one design and
you couldn't really tell if it looked good or not.

I was expecting "better" from "official" merchandise. What I saw
looked on par with all the unofficial Firefly merchandise we already have.
