Hi, folks. I'm Mary, a typical middle-aged wife and mother who loves fan
fiction. I've read stories in several fandoms but mostly SG-1, SGA, The
Sentinel, NCIS, and, of course, Mag7. I've also dabbled in Buffy, X-Files, and
Firefly.

I'm very familiar with the Mag7 TV series and have seen every episode more than
once (thank God for DVD's.) I'm also familiar with most of the common AU's.

I'm partial to slash but I also read gen. I don't usually read het for fun but
I have nothing against it and would have no problem checking over a het story.
I'm not sensitive or squeamish. I'm OK with violence, profanity, and graphic
sex. I'd prefer to avoid deathfic, though.

I have a degree in English. I am very familiar with English spelling and
grammar. I have no talent for writing fiction but I'm a good editor. I'm open
to working with anyone who needs me no matter what they're looking for in a beta
reader from just proofreading to assisting someone who has great ideas but
little familiarity with writing standard English.

I decided to volunteer because I've tried to read several stories with
facinating premises that were ruined for me by typos, incorrect word usage,
missing words, and sentences that were just impossible to understand because of
the grammar. I finally realized that instead of cursing the darkness I should
just light a damn candle.

Thanks for reading.

Write on!

Good Morning,

I am looking for a beta reader for a couple short M7 stories.

The first is a general story aprox 400 words in length.  It focuses on Orrin and Evie, but some others make a very breif appearence.  It is based in The Tribe AU (Which is Post-Apocalypse).

The second is more of a time-line for the same AU and is approx 600 words.  It touches on most of the M7 characters.

Both are part of an ongoing series which has 3 stories in it currently.

Thank-you,
Keith

After seven seasons, Without a Trace is being cancelled.  I know a lot of us started watching the show for Vin's sake, then stayed because we got interested in the characters.  (Hmm, that reminds me of a western several years ago, that I started watching because of Darien Lambert and Vincent, and then stayed because I fell in love with the new characters in the old west.)

On the other hand, fanfic author/editor Pearl Stickler once claimed you should only write fanfic for shows that were off the air, because that way a later episode couldn't do something that contradicted your story, which could and did happen if you wrote for shows that were still being broadcast.

Susan M

PS  Pearl was the editor of Syzygy (multimedia gen) and Avon's Gadget Works (B7 adult), and wrote in such universes as B7, ST, and S&H.

===
Just a note to fan fic writers - you cannot copyright fan fiction. Anything in it is up for grabs, since you have already borrowed someone else's characters and story scenarios. Even with "real" fiction, there are things you cannot copyright, including character names, titles, characterizations, and even plots. Names and titles can be *trademarked* (like the name Luke Skywalker or the title Star Wars), in which case, you have exclusive use of them, but, a trademark and a copyright are not the same thing. You may copyright ORIGINAL work (that is, you created ALL of the characters yourself, and wrote it completely from scratch), simply by writing the word "Copyright" and the year on it somewhere. You can also obtain a formal copyright from the Library of Congress for a small feel. A *trademark* however, must be registered, and costs thousands of dollars - although, you cannot trademark fanfic, either.

Unfortunately, people are free to use anything in your fan fic that they want. As we have seen in the past, this usually results in the "offender" being roasted over hot fandom coals (virtually speaking), but, there is no legal recourse that can be taken. A few years ago, I had a guy print a copy of one of my Forever Knight stories with his own name as author and try to sell it as a 'zine at a con. Luckily, a couple of people there realized what he had done and came to my defense (I wasn't there), and his table was closed down. But, if he had succeeded, there would not have been a damn thing I could have done about it.

Hi, my name is Jenny.

I read anything Mag7 at least once.  Length not a problem.  If I say I can beta it, it will be done.

My favorite characters are Chris and Vin, but I like all the guys.

The only AU I haven't read the specs for is the Two Blood one, though I have read as many of them as I can find.  Haven't read the first one "Hunter's Moon".  Every time I get a location it has been removed.  Really want to read it some time.

I can't do translations, but can help with writers that are having problems because English isn't their first language.

Dyslexia not a problem, nor poor typing skills.

Have never worked with voice-activated software.

All writers welcome.

Have seen all the episodes and own both seasons in DVD.

I raise Arabian horses and have ridden for years.  Own and show Salukis(breed of dog, sighthounds) in both confirmation and in the field.

I do some writing, but have never had the nerve to post anything.  I think that about covers everything.

I have just finished the rough draft of a Master/Wizard crossover story, roughly 9 pages long.  It is intended for Of Dreams and Schemes fanzine, edited by Cathy Schlein, once I polish a few rough transitions.  (I also need to watch my husband's Fall Guy DVDs, to double check Howie Munson/Alex Jagger's eye color.)  It's not M7, but would anyone be interested in beta-reading?

Hello, any mothers out there?  I have a story that needs beta-reading, but it's not M7.  It's based on the Saturday morning TV show Power Rangers Mystic Force.  It's just over 2,000 words, approximately 6 pages single-spaced.  I hope to submit it to Dalmatian Press, which has the licensing rights to do books based on the Power Rangers TV show.  Constructive criticism, especially from someone familiar with the Power Rangers universe, would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Firefly/M7 AU story.  It's an Ezra-crunch, and like most of my h/c stories, it's h/h/w/c (hurt-hurt-what-comfort?).  JD, Vin, Mary, and Maude are mentioned in passing.  Chris, Buck, and Josiah have small parts in the end of the story.  The emphasis is on Ezra Standish, on board Mal Reynolds' Serenity.  The story is 38 1/2 pages long.

The story is intended to be the first chapter of a new AU, setting the M7 gang in the Firefly universe, in the town of Four Corners on Hutchins' Moon.  It is an AU where the events of the movie either never took place, or haven't taken place yet.

If interested in beta-reading and offering constructive criticism, please e-mail me.

Hello everyone,

My name is Marns AKA Bumpkin (bumpkin_is on LJ), and since I just
finished writing a story, I now need someone to look it over for me.
Makes sense yes? :)

Type of story: This is an AU M7 story that is a crossover/immersion
with Highlander. It's Gen and only about a PG rating, maybe PG-13 for
language to be safe.
Length of story: (Wordcount: 4,280)
All seven are involved, though one is mainly just talked *about*.

Now what I am looking for, is someone to go through this story and
poke at anything that doesn't make sense, mention if something reads
'off', and finally, to fix my grammar and punctuation - because
frankly my skills in that last area are bad enough to make a cat
laugh. (or more likely it's them just coughing up a hairball of
disgust *g*)

For any who are interested in looking this story over for me, you can
email me at 'bumpkin.is@...'.

Thanks ahead of time to anyone who reads this,
Marns

Hello All,

I'm currently writing a story where Ezra is six years old and has been
abused (physical, not sexual) by Maude and her 'boyfriends'.

Anyway, he ends up at Chris's ranch where he gets to meet the rest of
the gang. They try to help him with his problems and bring Maude to
justice.

Would anyone be able to cast their eye over what I have written so far -
pick up any errors, give thoughts on Ezra's possible behavior or offer
any other suggestions - that would be great.

Thanks,
