A filk song is a science fiction folk song, originally usually a parody, but often nowadays original. If you are not musical (like most filkers, I sing in the traditional key of off), you can write lyrics and set them to an already existing song. Some people write their own music. M7 isn't SF, of course, but most of the fans are SF fans.
Filk song was a typo of folk song in an SF convention program, and it stuck. Almost all of Kipling's poems have been adopted by filkers, and having read two of your poems, I think they could be easily set to music.
Beth, thanks for sharing the Vin song.

, A-Team, one about my daughter's underwear that she'll kill me if I ever publish it anywhere, two to teach my children how to spell their names, and of course, M7. 90% of my filksongs can be found in Lee Gold's Xenofilkia. Lee's probably got a website; everybody else does these days.
