I based it on a blueprint drawn by Gary Kerr for the Moebius Jupiter 2.
Even though little details like that wouldn't show up on the model, he
drew them up as if it was for a full scale Jupiter 2 and then reduced
them. He based his tripod blueprint on a screen grab. Also in the
Jupiter 2 Operators Manual, it shows the tripod control with the painted
area around the pushbuttons and lamps. Even though it's a fan based
book, I believe they must have used original blueprints to make their
drawings, because some of their drawings are exactly like some original
blueprints I have, including some areas never seen on screen..

Bill,

Regarding your Tripod Control in the pic below:

For the lower three round lamps, you painted a colored-keyed area on the panel
base extending around each lamp to and around the lower corresponding push
button. What was this based on? Study of screen shots? Just curious.

I added some more panels to the flight console this afternoon and mounted the
three B205s. It's now much harder to climb through the viewport to get behind
it. The center one has an original prop Electodata faceplate on it, so I wanted
to keep the light plates the original gray colors. The other two are complete
replicas and I painted them the Burroughs blue colors. One B205 hides some small
fans that blow the plants in a small forced perspective hydroponic garden tank
to simulate windstorms, along with wind sound effects.
I put my Bloop there because he warns when aliens are present by snarling and
clapping the cymbals, ala Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

That's the power cord the John wrestled with after Smith caused it to start
sparking. Actually it's a temporary fix until I get the permanent wiring done. I
tend to jump ahead and quickly hook things up to see how it'd look lit up. The
B205 isn't wired up yet either. I'll probably spend the rest of the winter
wiring up panels. I can keep more motivated to work on it though if I can
actually see some things finished up.

For nearly 10 years I have been collecting and searching the globe on Irwin Allen collectibles.  Each week, month, and year, we continue to update our website at www.uncleodiescollectibles.com with many items of interest to wet anyr taste buds.  I continue to find not just rare, unquie,  fan made related items, but items none of us have seen before, not even Gene Rodenberry!?

Recently I have been in contact with several sellers and collectors from Argentina.  Just last weekend I won a rare Guy Williams spinner top!  Very cool item, and the seller tells me there is even more Lost in Space spinner tops to be pulled from the vault!  I will have those neat items up on the site shortly.  Tray puzzles are a hot ticket item, and again just last week I won and posted many of these rare puzzles up on the site.  Just tonight I received an e-mail and photos of even yet more rare fines.  Unpublished puzzles on Lost in Space, Time Tunnel, and even a collage puzzle on the man himself, Irwin Allen.  A nice tribute on Mr. Allen's many achievements over the years.  This is really a cool piece, and will be up on the site making it's first debut ever this weekend.

Also I received an e-mail and info on the new David Hedison novel.  Only 50 copies will be available and info will be listed under, "That Does Not Compute" this week.  Thanks to the publisher, "Paul Mohamed" for
allowing us to promote it first, and getting the word out on this long awaited book!

Artwork is plentyful this past week, and you the fans continue to submit sub great stuff.  All well worth posting, and thanks to all of you for sending them in.  Keep those e-mails coming, I love hearing from all of
you with your interest and feedback.  With work, hitting the gym 5 days a week, keeping up with weekly computer work, my 24-7 isn't enough.  I will continue to dedicate any and all free time to the website, answering any and all e-mails, and bring the very best to all of you here on the internet.

The very best this holiday season, and may 2010 be better than 2009!

I agree the price seems high , But consider the time to research the parts ,then
theres the tooling and the possibility of a minimum run[charge] for low
quantity, these factors probably force him to sell at these prices, besides
there are other knobs that would be available that come close for the economicly
challenged..

And forgive me, but I misspoke when I said that this is a trick to make you look like an ass, it's actually a trick for you to make yourself look like an ass.

I also don't believe that I called any potential customers or interested parties asses. I was referring only to you, Robby. Or are you saying that after your posts that I should have been expecting an order from you, the "potential customer/interested party"?

Regarding the knobs, the costs of reverse engineering, machining, molding, casting and ancillary expenses drove the price of the knobs I produced. In the future, my realized costs will continue to drive the price of all the parts I produce.

Lastly, my apologies to the list. Since Robby started this conversation publically I felt the need to address it publically.

Listen Chris,

I have no problem with you or free market capitalism, God knows I love lost in Space and if it's possible for an enthusiest, fan or craftsman to manufacture something to offer to fellow builders that's great, but I can't help wondering what possesses one to think that a knob is worth $50, unless it was solid 24K gold bullion or maybe blessed by a rabbi or had a lifetime warranty with unlimited replacement for manufacturing defects I might understand.

As to the reference to my ebay listings, these are new tools and range in price, I have something for everyone and I don't set the price so much as the manufacturer, it's not really any comparison. And although I am sometimes interested in a part being offered on some yahoo lists I can't promise you anything Chris. Money is tight for me so I have to look for value or make myself or just go without, whatever the case may be, usually it's go without.

Robby:

Like I've said before, the parts I make are not for everyone.

I won't even attempt to justify my price point to you because I doubt you'd
understand the nuances, but I will point out that the run sold out...

Perhaps I can put the sales pitch into terms you understand
(http://cgi.ebay. com/ws/eBayISAPI .dll?ViewItem& item=32042473976 0):

"For the elite [builder] who demands precise and accurate [replication,
these knobs are] built to be the “best of the best”. Special machining
processes along with the meticulous hand-fitting of the parts create [a
knob] with incredible [accuracy]."

With a sales pitch like that at about a tenth of the cost of your airbrush,
doesn't it sound like a deal?!?

If you still want a cheaper alternative, you can get resin ones that are
available at about a tenth of my price.

While I’ve got your attention and while we're talking about price point,
tell me, why did your power pack connectors go from $6.95 to $9.95 for "such
a high demand product" in such a "strong economy"?

http://cgi.ebay. com/ws/eBayISAPI .dll?ViewItem& item=32041113050 3

http://cgi.ebay. com/ws/eBayISAPI .dll?ViewItem& item=32041496411 2

Did you just decide to squeeze an extra few bucks out of the fans?

BTW, I suppose I can scratch you off the list for the impending “on [your]
word” purchase “no later than Jan or Feb this winter” of my B205 sockets,
right?

Chris

I've finished the run of 205 knobs and they came out great! The upper knob
is molded from an original and the metal has been machined to spec. Knobs
attach to a 1/4" shaft with two set screws tapped through metal so you can
get them tight enough to turn any rotary switch. Pricing is as follows:

1 - 2, $50 each
3 - 8, $45 each
9 or more, $40 each

Photos of the run here:

In addition to the 205 consoles, these knobs were also used on the Center
Console as well as various other equipment aboard the Jupiter 2.

Please email me at boards @ ChrisPappas. com (remove spaces) to order.

Robby:

8/21/09
“on my word will purchase them from you when
I can, no later than Jan or Feb this winter."

11/10/09
"I can't promise you anything Chris."

Just what is your word worth? Don't tell me, I know. You're off the hook here
as I've scratched your name off the list. Please find a suitable alternative
for your B205 light sockets.

"If you think making parts and attempting to
manipulate lists is how to make sales and
	 then calling potential customers or
	 interested parties asses is somehow
befitting to accomplish the goal of enhancing
or adding to a groups benifit [sic] you are
	 sadly mistaken SIR!"

Again I ask, please cite your evidence of all the confirmations from “buddies
with handles noone [sic] recognizes”.

And forgive me, but I misspoke when I said that this is a trick to make you look
like an ass, it's actually a trick for you to make yourself look like an ass.

I also don't believe that I called any potential customers or interested parties
asses. I was referring only to you, Robby. Or are you saying that after your
posts that I should have been expecting an order from you, the "potential
customer/interested party"?

Regarding the knobs, the costs of reverse engineering, machining, molding,
casting and ancillary expenses drove the price of the knobs I produced. In the
future, my realized costs will continue to drive the price of all the parts I
produce.

Lastly, my apologies to the list. Since Robby started this conversation
publically I felt the need to address it publically.

Chris

Listen Chris,

I have no problem with you or free market capitalism, God knows I love lost in
Space and if it's possible for an enthusiest, fan or craftsman to manufacture
something to offer to fellow builders that's great, but I can't help wondering
what possesses one to think that a knob is worth $50, unless it was solid 24K
gold bullion or maybe blessed by a rabbi or had a lifetime warranty with
unlimited replacement for manufacturing defects I might understand.

As to the reference to my ebay listings, these are new tools and range in price,
I have something for everyone and I don't set the price so much as the
manufacturer, it's not really any comparison. And although I am sometimes
interested in a part being offered on some yahoo lists I can't promise you
anything Chris. Money is tight for me so I have to look for value or make myself
or just go without, whatever the case may be, usually it's go without.

Robby

and by the way,

If you think making parts and attempting to manipulate lists is how to make
sales and then calling potential customers or interested parties asses is
somehow befitting to accomplish the goal of enhancing or adding to a groups
benifit you are sadly mistaken SIR!

Did you just decide to squeeze an extra few bucks out of the fans?

BTW, I suppose I can scratch you off the list for the impending “on [your]

Wow your pricing seems way too low! Only $50 per knob! You could probably
get 3 or 4 times that with such a high demand product and strong economy.
When are the $10,000 finished consoles going to be available? Is it possible
to pre-order with a large cash deposit???

I've bought (and am buying) items from Chris and am happy to have that option.
I'm not made of money and am going in e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y slow motion gathering
parts but I like the incredible lengths he goes to in creating literal
duplicates.
There was/is a website offering $24,000 LIS robots and though certainly not in
everybody's price range, they're an option to some B9 fans. Nothing wrong with
that.

"For the elite [builder] who demands precise and accurate [replication,
these knobs are] built to be the best of the best.

While Ive got your attention and while we're talking about price point,
tell me, why did your power pack connectors go from $6.95 to $9.95 for "such
a high demand product" in such a "strong economy"?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320414964112

Did you just decide to squeeze an extra few bucks out of the fans?

BTW, I suppose I can scratch you off the list for the impending on [your]
word purchase no later than Jan or Feb this winter of my B205 sockets,
right?

Wow your pricing seems way too low! Only $50 per knob! You could probably
get 3 or 4 times that with such a high demand product and strong economy.
When are the $10,000 finished consoles going to be available? Is it possible
to pre-order with a large cash deposit???

I've finished the run of 205 knobs and they came out great! The upper knob
is molded from an original and the metal has been machined to spec. Knobs
attach to a 1/4" shaft with two set screws tapped through metal so you can
get them tight enough to turn any rotary switch. Pricing is as follows:

1 - 2, $50 each
3 - 8, $45 each
9 or more, $40 each

Photos of the run here:

In addition to the 205 consoles, these knobs were also used on the Center
Console as well as various other equipment aboard the Jupiter 2.

Please email me at boards @ ChrisPappas.com (remove spaces) to order.

Like I've said before, the parts I make are not for everyone.

I won't even attempt to justify my price point to you because I doubt you'd
understand the nuances, but I will point out that the run sold out...

Wow! No reason to trash Chris. He is one of the very few who are actually producing excellent, quality parts made from actual console parts or researched info. The great thing about it is he is offering some items for us on this group to buy IF we want to. His prices may sound high to some, but to others, not too bad for unavailable parts or no time or knowledge to make their own. As for myself, I have purchased many items from him and will in the future. I know I will be getting GREAT parts to make my consoles that much better. Nobody said that anyone HAS to buy his parts.

I'm doing the first/last/only run of rings for the side radars this weekend.
(The two black ones on the Jupiter 2's master control consoles.) I'll be
selling my large vacuform machine as soon as I complete this run.

The tooling is a female mold taken directly from an original into which
.060" black plastic will be vacuformed. This is the only way to get the
precise shape at the correct thickness, or thinness, as the case may be.

The rings will be trimmed, drilled and ready for installation.

If anyone is interested, please email me at boards @ ChrisPappas.com (remove
