Hi All,
We have some new stuff to tell you about. We've added two new
articles to the Soapbox Corral. Actually, they're old articles. One
is from TV Guide 1960 and the other is from the UK publication, The
Radio News. Thanks to Chris for all the UK articles. It's such a
great glimpse back to the early 60's and what people thought of our
show.
Chris also found a picture of Jack Coffer and one of Bob. They're
seperate pictures, but they look like they should be together. It
looks like Bob's arm is on Jack's shoulder. They are in the FILES
section of this list. Look to the left side tool bar on the site,
click files, and then Pics of Interest.
To access the articles, go to the Soapbox Corral on the Overland Mail
site. One is on the main page, and the other is on Chris'
Contributions page.

Patricia,
Thanks for joining us. Always room for one more. We'd love to see
your pictures and can post them for you. I have a scanner, so if you
want to do that, contact me offlist.
Now, I have a question for you guys. Does anyone out there have any
cool stuff on John Smith? We love him too, and I don't know about
Jenny, but speaking for myself, I don't want to go too far down the
road of being so Jess-centric on our site. Of course we love Jess,
but the other half of why we love Laramie so much was Slim.
Anybody?

Chris,
You haven't disqualified yourself at all. In fact, you are correct.
The first correct answer is Dark trail and yes, there are at least
two others others (maybe more). Yay!
I shouldn't have said there is only one correct answer. In this
case, there are others. I just meant that if anyone wanted to guess
and guess it was okay until they hit on a correct answer.
Anyhoo, congrats! Let me know offlist how to get your tape to you.

Dark Trail as Dobbs
Two for the Gallows as Simms

Angelika,
Hey sweetie! I'm so glad you could make it. I know you won't get
this for a couple of weeks, but anyhoo, so glad you joined us.
Please don't ever apologize for your English. It's a heck of a lot
better than our German would be, no doubt.
Looking forward to your posts.
Yes I noticed everyone is rather annonymous in the members list, but
I'm sure you guys will introduce yourselves around, right? Me and
Jenny know most of you, but not all, and I'm sure some of you don't
know anyone.
Mingle!

That's a very interesting suggestion. All I could find out about
Jack was that he died in 1967 at the age of 29 in a car accident. I
haven't been able to find any pictures, but would love to see him. I
wonder if he ever had a bit part in Laramie, apart from his stunt
work? I'll email the only person I know who might know and possibly
have a picture. Another might be Marcia. Anyone want to ask her? :-)

Okay, it's 'bout time for another foray into the trivial pursuits of
yesteryear. This time, the tape up for grabs to the most trivial
minded of us, is The Perfect Gift and The Stranger. Let me repeat
the rules since they were first posted on the other list.
If you already have these episodes, please let some of our needier
sibs have a shot. If you live outside the continental US, and you
want to play, we'd ask that you agree to pay postage. Inside the
continental US, we'll send it Media Mail only, which is $1.42 and
doesn't require a trip to the dreaded Post Office.
We'll post the question at about 9PM US, EST and the first post with
the correct answer wins. You can guess as many times as you like,
but only one answer wins. If you give an answer that we were not
looking for, but you can prove you're right, well, hey, we're not
unreasonable.
Okay, y'all have fun, and don't worry, we'll keep doing this as long
as the tapes and the $ holds out so there will always be more chances.
See y'all around 9-ish.
I would be very interested to find out about Jack Coffer, RF's stunt
double on Laramie. I believe he was killed in a car crash in the mid
60's. I think there might be a picture of Jess and Jack together,
would love to see it.
Howdy Pards,
We've been busy at the ol' Relay Station. Our dear Chris has
contributed some great stuff. She sent us some articles that were
written about Laramie when it first aired in 1959. Check them out on
our Soapbox Corral page. Chris also sent us a new fic which we put
up on the fanfic page. Well, it's not new, but it's new to
us. ::::Thanks and waves to Chris!::::::
We also added the episode synopsis for No Second Chance.
We also want to announce our second Trivia Contest. We will post the
particulars on Friday evening (US, EST) so be watching for that if
you think you'd like to play. Not having episodes is no excuse :)
The answer can be researched on the web.
Thank you all very much for hanging around.

Thank you Annie - nice to know the memory still works reasonably ok!
Now, wouldn't you think the boy would have made life easier for
himself and put the bathtub in the bedroom? But then, where would the
fun have been in that!

Annie,
The episode you're describing with Jess in the bath is "Bitter
Glory". It is almost as you describe, except that it was the
beginning of the episode, not the end. Slim comes in and sees Jess
in the tub in the living room, he pretends that he's talking to some
ladies outside the door (there's no one with him), and Jess, thinking
their are women out there, ducks down in the water. Later when he
stands up, he is wearing his underdrawers and he has the rest of his
clothes in there with him. It's a very cute beginning, and I think a
very good episode.

Thankyou - that would fit in with the timescale I remember, so I must
really be that old :-( It was definitely black and white that I was
watching. By 1988 I was a working Mum and didn't get to see any of
the repeats so it's a very long time since I saw it. Still looks
just as good though, and the episode guides on the website are
absolutely brilliant at bringing it to life again. Thanks, Annie &
Jen - keep it up, please!

Hi, ladies, I'm the Annie from the UK, and like Mary I remember
watching Laramie when it was new. I was trying to work out when it
first aired in the UK and I don't think it can have been long after
the US because I wasn't very old at the time (well, that's my story
and I'm sticking to it!) Having just discovered the Relay Station,
I'm loving the trip down memory lane, and thanks to Holly, I've
actually been able to watch some episodes this week. Fantastic! He
looks just as good as I remember him!
I'm sure I remember an episode which ended with Jess in the bathtub -
now, why would that stick in my mind :-) I think he was doing his
washing in the tub at the same time, as you obviously would if you'd
had to heat all that water on the stove. Slim comes in and says that
the lady who'd figured in the story has come back for something and
Jess panics and ducks under the water, only to find that Slim was
teasing him. Was that actually in an episode, do you know, or was it
just a fantasy of my own? :-)

Ah, memories. Those wonderful Dr. Brackett suit days. I wonder where he found
some of those. But
I'd have been happy to have Dr. Brackett as my physician, sideburns, plaid and
all. Of course, I'd
have been happier to have Coop as my wagon train scout and happiest of all to
have Jess riding
shotgun on my stagecoach.
I know being in a wagon train was no picnic, but can you imagine what it would
be like to have a
guide like Cooper Smith? <sigh>

My name is Mary and I'm not ashamed to say that I'm old enough to
have started watching Laramie back in the day when it was brand new
and I was a horse crazy little girl. My sister and I (who both rode -
and still ride - english) loved to critique the horsemanship even
though we didn't know a thing about western riding. Intuitively we
knew that what we were seeing was real good. About the second season
we also noticed a certain dark haired cowboy looked real good as
well. I've been a loyal fan all these years and am delighted to be
able to recapture that delightful time through Annie and Jen's
website - and the others as well - they are all wonderful and
different - just can't have too many. My sister and
I used to desperately try to imitate that cute hoppy mounting
technique - it's a wonder we still have our front teeth! In the 70's
our dad who was a physician who liked to nitpick the medical shows,
became a huge fan of Emergency and fancied that he bore a striking
resemblence to Dr. Brackett (he did a little). He grew his sideburns
and mother had a hard time talking him out of wearing plaid suits.
So, Annie and Jen - keep up the good work - this is wonderful stuff!!

Yikes, I'm afraid I'd forgotten all about the pics page. I put those Marshals
pics up so Annie
could pick some Marshals pictures, and it turned out to be easier to put all the
pictures into the
Yahoo site. I've been working more on the relaystation lately. We'd like to
get all the episode
descriptions up and would like pix on them too. I can't believe I left Jess in
such a precarious
position. I may have to rectify that!

am saying Hurrah! for all we've got now. Too many years of no
Laramie, no Wagon Train (I've only seen one Coop Smith episode)just
left me feeling so sad about what we all were missing out on. But now
you folks are trying to do something aabout that, and I couldn't be
happier.
Only one thing, Jen and Annie, when are we going to see the rest of
the screen caps for the Marshalls? Don't leave poor Jess about to be
tipped into the lake with that bullet in him.

Hi Angelika,
Welcome to the group! I've heard so many nice things about you, I feel like I
know you. I'm
looking forward to seeing your pics and hearing your tales of meeting Mr.
Fuller. I'd love to meet
him at least one time. Three times must be heaven. I'm sorry that I can't get
to Scottsdale this
year to meet you and see Mr. Fuller, but I hope I'll get another opportunity to
meet you in the
future.
Have a safe trip! We'll be here when you get back.
Jen

Hello to all of you!
I am Angelika from Germany and I am a big fan of Laramie and
especially Jess Harper. Since when? I fell in love with Jess Harper
at the age of 10 and that is more than 40 years ago. I had the luck
to meet Mr. Fuller 3 times and am delighted. He is a very kind man
and was very friendly to all his fans. I am very glad, Annie, that
you finally decided to make that discussion forum and I hope that
there will be not such a mess as happened in the RFFC. I have a lot
of questions and might add some pics but unfortunately I am very busy
at the moment( sorry Annie, I know that I owe you an email) but will
be back in about a fortnight. Will then introduce myself. By the way:
who else is there? I looked up the members list, seems all very
anonymous! Sorry for my bad English. Looking forward ro meet some
nice people here , informations and chat. Regards from icy Germany

Hi everyone!
I'm Jenny, the co-moderator that Annie mentioned. I'd like to welcome everyone
to the list too and
put my two cents worth in on how I discovered Laramie.
Like Annie, I watched CBN in the 80s. But I never saw Laramie. I was a big fan
of Wagon Train.
I'd wait all week for the show to come on at 4:30 on Saturdays. I was fond of
the character named
Coop, played by Robert Fuller.
Last summer, I was on a Lancer list, and somehow Robert Fuller's name came up
along with Wagon Train
and Laramie. I had no idea Robert Fuller was in a show called Laramie before
that. I joined the
Laramie group to find out more about Robert Fuller. I began enjoying the
Laramie episode
descriptions so much, I searched for eps and attempted to purchase a few that
were mentioned on the
list. I didn't get exact eps I ordered, but one of the eps I did get was called
License to Kill. I
loved it so much I was totally hooked.
Then I discovered Annie who seemed to know everything about Laramie. She told
me all about the eps
and I had almost as much fun reading her descriptions and comments as I did
watching the eps.
During one discussion, we mentioned that it would be great for people who were
interested in Laramie
to know a lot of the info that we were passing back and forth. It was just the
kind of info I was
looking for when I was searching for tapes. We can't agree on who actually
mentioned putting this
info on a webpage first, but I do admit that I'm the one who did actually start
putting the page up.
I'm a system analyst and I had a new web-based project coming up, so I figured
this was an excellent
opportunity to get my feet wet. It was very useful, and even better, it was
lots of fun. The rest
is history. Annie's the artistic talented writer person who does most of the
real work. I enjoy
the more techie stuff like formatting pages, screen capping, etc. She works, I
play. :) But we
both love Laramie.
If you have any questions or suggestions about the site or notice any problems,
please let us know.
We appreciate any help we can get. Thanks for joining us!

Hello new members.
Thanks to all of you for joining us. Please feel free to introduce
yourselves if you'd like. Since we're new, we may not know everyone,
although we do know some of you.
I'm Annie Wingate and I'm a co-moderator with Jenny. We own The
Great Central Overland Mail website which is dedicated to Laramie.
We thought having our own group would be nice and we've had requests
for it. It also gives us an easy way to let all intrested parties
know about updates to the site.
I've been aware of Laramie since I was five because my parents
watched it and I remember seeing it and hearing conversations. Then,
in the 80s, CBN ran reruns but they only ran the third and fourth
seasons. I taped several episodes, but not nearly all, and then I've
kept them all these years. Since then I've accumulated a lot more,
but I still treasure those "originals".
My interest was rekindled last year when the discussion on, of all
things, a Stargate list, turned to our favorite childhood shows.
That was the beginning, and then I met Jenny and the rest is, well,
you know.
I love the western genre in general and Laramie in particular.
Overall, I think it is the best of its kind and Jess Harper was one
of the best cowboys ever. The actor and the character were made for
each other. Beyond that, the relationships of the characters were
special and a big part of why I like the show so much.
I had the opportunity of meeting Robert Fuller in August of last year
and still remember that experience as one of the most enjoyable four
days of my life.
So, anybody else want to share?
Okay, now for business: We've put a new synopsis for Ride Into
Darkness up and Jenny has added some terrific caps to the Glory Road
page.
Annie
We have updated the site with a wonderful new story by Mary. It's a
follow up piece to her Killer Without A Face and is the story told
from Daisy's point of view. Give it a look-see.
http://www.geocities.com/laramierelaystation/index.html
We're happy to have our new sister-site up and running. This
discussion group was formed so that we can post announcements and
updates about The Great Central Overland Mail and Stage Stop site
without intruding on other lists. Everyone is welcome to discuss and
have fun, but if you just want to receive updates, that's okay too.
If you want to receive automatic updates, just join and pick an email
option.
Here is a list of the most recent updates to the site (2003):
Fic:
The Cat by Arren
The Fine Edge by Holly
I'm Already There by Arren
The Trotting Horse by Mary
Killer Without a Face by Mary
