THE CUBE.... Once you've seen it, you'll never get out....
It was a Sunday afternoon, February 23,1969, when the anthology show NBC EXPERIMENT IN TELEVISION aired a one-hour teleplay by Jim Henson, then best known for being the man behind "Ralph the Dog" on the JIMMY DEAN SHOW.
Jim Henson created this unique film, titled simply THE CUBE. It starred Richard Schaal as a man trapped in a white cubical room. He had no idea how he got there or where it was. And although anyone could enter, he couldn't leave....
A deceptively simple teleplay, THE CUBE worked its way into the memories of many who have seen it. Metaphysical play, philosophical allegory, dark comedy, psychological drama-- THE CUBE is as hard to categorize as it is to describe.
But THE CUBE is there, waiting, within our memories. And it'll never get out of there, it'll never get out of there, it'll never get out of there....
This group is designed for people who seek or share information about THE CUBE-- its creation, its cast, the people behind it, and (most importantly!) how to see it today.
We started off in 2003 with the barest of knowledge about the show. Now we've finally reached the point of being able to answer many of our questions. We now have a network of copies of THE CUBE floating around the planet. We've even found the star of THE CUBE! Among the resources here, you can download a reconstructed script in the FILES section and screen cap images from the broadcast in the PHOTOS section.
Next up-- If anyone knows how to design a Flash cube, I have an idea for a goofy CUBE screensaver!
