I know that Trek is fiction, I'm just rankled about how the characters were treated in the new film. It seemed very inconsistent with the characters that were established. According to the new movie the characters are all approximately the same age, and graduated from the academy at the same time. To me it just didn't seem as if the producers built upon the legacy that was left, instead they wanted to erase it and create something new. And what was "new" seemed very similar to the plot of the first "Star Wars" movie.
Anyway I know a lot of people like the new movie so I won't get into an argument about it. If you like it or if you hate it it's just an opinion. My Scottish and Spanish roots make me stubborn as hell.
Hi Erik,
I'm not piling on you or anyone else about the new Trek or anything. Myself, at 42 I'm a child of the seventies and early eighties who's got a healthy obsession for tv of the sixties: classic Trek, Mission Impossible, Mannix, Ironside, The Invaders, The Saint, etc. I just got the feeling once the new film was conceived that the Trek I knew was for my generationand this new film is for the new generation of fans.
Back to MI, "Echoes of Yesterday" was mentioned in an earlier post. I have to say I very much appreciated in a way the Wilfred Hyde-White character. A nice mix of charming, pitiable, and pathetic all in one. A very good episode.
I know that many fans of Mission: Impossible don't like the later seasons as much as the earlier ones. In many ways this is how it is with most television...
When I say cynical I don't refer to the plots themselves.(I think that many of the scripts for Mission: Impossible are wonderfully cynical and I wouldn't...
"There is a primitive phase, classical, revisionist, and parody phase." Wow...that is a really good summary I've been saying for years about many of the great...
I'm glad that you also noticed this about most TV shows. The idea about the phases isn't original to me (only the term I use for the last two seasons of...
Erik, Thanks...actually, as soon as I posted my last message, I thought I was *maybe* being a little hard on The Bob Newhart Show, but I still think I'm right....

You raise a lot of interesting points. Now that I have seen most of the Sixth Season, I must say as a whole it is greatly inferior to the seasons before it,...
Wow...I've got so much I want to add here, but I don't want to take the board too off-topic. [Trying my best to keep things on-topic...] I think there are two...
I think that "The Bob Newhart Show" is dated today, but it is still very well written and the characters are solid. I always preferred the film M*A*S*H over...
Ha! Hello Talara. I see you also feel the same way about the new reboot of the classic Star Trek. OH well this is not the forum for that, and I want to keep...
... Though this is a M:I mail list, I felt that I must speak out. I've been a classic ST fan since the 1960s. I have the classic shows and ST 1-6 on tape,...

Thanks for the positive thoughts on the new ST movie, Robert. Like you, I'm a diehard classic Trek fan. I can quote dialogue from Trek eps like few others can....
Kevin, Wow...that moment with Rollin in "The Legacy" is one of my favorite moments, too...I thought I was the only one. I think that the IMF's consistent cool...
That's great trivia about the actors in "The Legacy." It reminds me of all of the German actors who escaped to the US during WWII and then wound up playing...

Well, Yaakov, I can tell you this: I can't watch All In the Family anymore, because I've met too many Archie Bunkers in my life and didn't find them one bit...
I don't know about you, but I still have a hard time believing that Donald Harron, who played Graf in "The Legacy," is the same guy who played "newscaster"...
