I know that Trek is fiction, I'm just rankled about how the characters were
treated in the new film. It seemed very inconsistent with the characters that
were established. According to the new movie the characters are all
approximately the same age, and graduated from the academy at the same time. To
me it just didn't seem as if the producers built upon the legacy that was left,
instead they wanted to erase it and create something new. And what was "new"
seemed very similar to the plot of the first "Star Wars" movie.
Anyway I know a lot of people like the new movie so I won't get into an argument
about it. If you like it or if you hate it it's just an opinion. My Scottish and
Spanish roots make me stubborn as hell.

diehard classic Trek fan. I can quote dialogue from Trek eps like few others
can. I've been going to conventions for years. I, too, very much enjoyed the new
film and wish that it continues to do well. I bristle at the fans who are
totally resistant to change. They tend to look at shows like Trek as untouchable
and perfect. My thought is, it's fiction. Great fiction, but still fiction
nonetheless. And, if directors like J.J. Abrams can improve upon the formula or
show a different slant, go for it. Even with MI, though I initially had a
problem with the 1996 movie having Phelps as the villain and a lesser use of the
team formula, I gave it a second viewing and enjoyed it more the second time
when I actually started thinking about whether it's conceivable that Phelps
could become a villain and I started seeing that the team formula actually was
being used a lot in the film. At

lesser-discussed eps. Especially the thread about the ruthless air in season
one. "The Legacy" stands out as a particularly brutal-edged episode, with Rollin
really losing his cool with Graf when Briggs gets shot in the climax. I remember
Barney saying "Willy, get him off of him! He'll kill him!" and Willy having to
pull Rollin off Graf. Very out of norm but very human for Rollin.
