Jim, on my ID800H it does not have a BCL control. I am going to do a complete reset, and re-program the radio and see what happens. Thanks for your tip.

Hi Hank,
I'm still learning how things work with my ID-800H, but those 3 short beeps when running in high power can be turned off in the intial setup mode, by turning off the BCL. Try that out.

When I run my IC800H on high power, I get 3 shorts beeps. This does not happen on Med or Low power settings. I have checked my SWR and it is 1.2:1. Any suggestions? Thanks, Hank, K9LZJ

It was installed since I use the same laptop to program both the ID800

Alan,
My initial reaction was the mount itself. I tested it by using another
radio, this time a Kenwood D7 on the same antenna I mounted on the NMO
and it worked fine. In fact I borrowed another ID800 from a buddy and
it works fine as well.
Definitely a radio issue. Thanks for the input.

For only $625.00 dollars you get a like new Icom IC-91AD
FM / DSTAR dual band portable radio with Speaker Microphone
and DC Power cable. The original box, charger, and packaging
are included.
Giga Parts has the IC-91AD listed at $449.00 and the
CP-12 Power Cable goes for $36.00 plus the
HMN-131 Speaker Microphone, a $32.00 value.
Then there is a Mirage BD-35, dual band portable rf amplifier - a
$169.95 value.
This power house delivers 45 Watts on 2 Meters and 35 Watt on 70 CM.
There is more. This offer includes the control software and a
USB to Serial port adapter with driver software, plus an SMA to BNC
adaptor and
2, NMO mount antennas, one for 2 meters and one for 70 CM.
This is a package deal worth well over $800 for only $625.00.
I hate to sacrifice this radio, but books and tuition have to come
first.

Before you zoom in on the 800H, make sure that the NMO is not the
issue!
NMO's are often intolerant of the mounting arrangement. The thickness
of material you mount them on, or the alignment of the stepped
section is critical. Both can prevent the spring loaded contact in
the NMO base from touching.
This is easily checked with a multimeter when the NMO base is mounted
but no antenna on it.
The other item with NMOs is to make sure that they have a good
metallic connection. I don't know what you have it mounted to, but a
car roof can be insulated on the inside by a thick coating and on the
outside by paint. Often the NMOs don't work because at least one of
these insulations have not been scratched away and removed.

Well aside from programming issues something else happened. I
installed a new NMO for my 2/440 antenna and when I tested it on the
ID800 nothing. Could not bring up any repeaters close by and could not
hear well at all.) I put a D7 HT on the antenna and it worked fine and
SWR tested fine. Put the antenna back on the ID800 and once again
nothing. No measured output not much receive.
I took the bottom off and found 2 pinkish puddy/eraser type things
over the area where the antenna jack is. I assume this is for making
sure stuff does not touch the case? I also found a resistor sticking
up and leaning near, not sure if touching but I would venture its a
strong possibility it was, the antenna jack. (Who designs a rig that
way?) Closed the case back up and again crap for receive and transmit.
I had been having issues with the transmit cutting out hence the
expediting of NMO installations for the antennas on the roof. I
figured that would improve things with a solid mount and a solid
ground. Not make things worse. I also thought it was an overheating
issue so set the fan to continuously on. That did not seem to help.
Any thoughts?

I wish there was a computer wizard right handy - I am not. I believe
that you can leave the cloning software alone. It is the driver for the
USB/COM adaptor that is part of the cloning cable that needs to be
removed and re-installed. This will be in the control panel under
com/lpt ports. Sometimes it picks a weird port # like 14 or so, and you
may just have to change that to com 1 or com 2 to fit the cloning
software and may not have to remove and reinstall. I hope this is good
info - maybe some far more knowledgeable can give a definite answer. If
it's any consolation I spent 4 or 5 hours trying to use the control head
extension cable on an ID-1 in place of an ethernet cable - it would send
data but not receive - dumb on my part. 73, Steve NU5D

I have programming software and cables for Yaesu and Kenwood stuff and
frankly they are far superior to anything I have used on any of the
Icom rigs I have. It's almost as if it'd be better doing it by hand
(except programming the DStar bit would take forever.)

I will use the CS-D800 with OPC-478UC. I cannot get the computer to

Group,
I have for sale a IC-91AD with original box. The radio is in excellent
to new condition. I also have the DC power cable and the software
control with usb to serial cable. I also have the BD-35 dualband
amplifier. I have a speaker microphone and the
radio is Mars modded for tx outside hambands both on UHF & VHF.I also
have a SMA to BNC adapter and 1/4 wave antennas for 2 meter and 440
both with the NMO style mount. For all of this gear I am asking $625
dollars. That is more than reasonable for what all is included in this
offer. You can contact me via yahoo messenger and my yahoo id is KF9L.
My email is rmeredith8388@.... The radio is preprogrammed with
a numerous amount of frequencies that included the marine maritime
frequencies, vhf & uhf business frequencies as well as the cb
frequencies and both am & fm broadcast frequencies.

I am using an ICOM ID-800H for an IRLP node radio on node 4615 and
it is usually connected to the western reflector even during the nets and the radio
never even gets warm. I run the radio in the 5-watt setting with the
standard fan, however I will be adding an additional fan for precautionary use
once everything is relocated to the repeater site.
I would send it back to ICOM and have the radio checked. Perhaps
the heat sink is not making proper contact.
73 and good luck with it…

that any other rig that I own (Ft-8900, D700 etc). I checked the SWR on the
antenna just to make sure that was within specs but I'll check the current
(good suggestion) to see what it is.

Doug, I have not seen my 800 get warm at all. I would check the current
draw and make sure it is within the specifications, and then check the power
output.

Howdy Hank.... we (our local group) have seen all 3 of our 800h's get
warm, I mean real warm during a QSO. Not alarming but it is indeed hotter
that any other rig that I own (Ft-8900, D700 etc). I checked the SWR on the
antenna just to make sure that was within specs but I'll check the current
(good suggestion) to see what it is.

Heat!
Has anyone else had problems with their ID-800H getting VERY VERY hot
in prolonged QSO's? Even on the five watt setting. Mine get's VERY
hot on the top-right-middle of the rig, and the fan is working. It
just seems like it should not get that hot with a fan...
Is this normal?

Brad mine does get hot as well.......noticed that the fan also comes on
when the ambient temp is up, probably a good thing.
