Gareth Thomas on R4, Steven Pacey on stage & DVD Info
GARETH THOMAS
Gareth can be heard for 5 consecutive days reading Radio 4's Book of the Week -
'A Patriot for Us' starting Monday 8 May on Radio 4 at 9.45/10am. Each day's
episode is repeated at half past midnight. 'A Patriot for Us' is the biography
of playwright John Osborne, written by John Heilpern.
Not sure of a transmission date yet, but Gareth has also recorded one of Francis
Durbridge's Paul Temple stories for Radio 4, 'Paul Temple and the Sullivan
Affair'. This will be broadcast weekly for 8 weeks. When I asked Gareth what
part he played in this, he said - "Two Egyptians, an Irishman, a Frenchman, a
German and Sir Graham Forbes!"
STEVEN PACEY
Steven will be appearing in a Gala Charity Production of 'Side By Side By
Sondheim' for the Shooting Star Children's Hospice on Sunday 21st May at the
Novello Theatre, London
The original stars of Side By Side By Sondheim are reuniting for a charity
benefit concert of the revue on May 21st at the Novello Theatre in London. The
performance will benefit the Shooting Star Children's Hospice, which supports
terminally ill children and their families. David Kernan, Millicent Martin,
Julia McKenzie and Ned Sherrin starred in the original London and Broadway
productions of the revue, the first of many Sondheim-themed evenings to follow.
Side By Side By Sondheim premiered at London's Mermaid Theatre in 1976--the same
year that the legendary composer/lyricist's Pacific Overtures opened on
Broadway. Side by Side transferred to Broadway the next year, and received five
Tony Award nominations. Directed by Kernan, with musical staging by Bill Deamer
and musical direction by Gareth Valentine, the revue will also feature guest
appearances. The performers will sing numbers from A Funny Thing Happened On the
Way to the Forum (1962), Company (1970), Follies (1971) and more. Since the
revue premiered, Sondheim has gone on to pen the scores of Sweeney Todd, Merrily
We Roll Along, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Assassins,
Passion and Bounce. Guest appearances from Dame Judi Dench, Christopher
Biggins, Joan Collins OBE, Sir Trevor McDonald, Maureen Lipman and Nicholas
Parsons.

S4 DVD Launch and Mail Order DVDs
The launch event was very well attended on Monday 2nd May in Milton Keynes. The
cast were signing DVDs & photos, and chatting to fans all day, with a special
Q&A panel and guest dinner after the main show and a good time was had by all.
It was great to see Glynis Barber at her first ever event, and whilst somewhat
surprised at how many people wanted to meet her and get her autograph, Glynis
seemed to be having a good time and enjoyed meeting up with her former
colleagues as well as meeting the fans.
To those of you who have ordered their signed S4 DVDs from Horizon, these will
start being posted out in the next few days and we're hoping to complete the
mail-outs by the end of next week. Please be patient a little longer, we'll get
them out to you as quickly as possible.
There are still some signed copies available (both fully signed sets and
single-signature sets) if you've not yet ordered, so if you'd like one send
Diane your order, or email for further details - horizonb7@...
