Hi, everybody I just posted a new picture of Gene in the photo'section
under the Gene London general photo's heading. it was taken when he was
a boy, working on arts and crafts at a school, function. From the looks
of the posters it may have been a bond drive. Enjoy, John

Hi, all just received a request from Gene concerning his archives.
Gene is looking to increase his personal archive and wanted me to ask
any one who may have old photo's (autographed or not) home movies of
the show or Gene, memorabilia or anything related to Gene and his
career (would consider making copies or donating items) to contact
him or the site. Gene say's copies are fine, but originals would be
better. If you have any of these type of materials in your possession
and would like to discuss it with Gene, Use the subject
heading "Items for Gene London Archive" and email Gene at
CartoonCorners@....
I know these are treasured item's, but I'm sure something mutually
agreeable to both you and Gene can be worked out.
                  Thanks,
                        John

Well, that's certainly Jane "Pixanne" Norman in the front, still beautiful after all these years.  Don't recognize the other two guys, though.

That would be so great if he could get them transfered to a more
digital friendly format. I was on the show in 1959 or 60. I really
don't remember much ( I was only 4 yrs old) except that he had someone
on there that made homemade pretzels. I got to sit on Genes lap,( I
had a huge crush on him) and he helped me make my pretzel.
I also remember being crushed when the episode aired in B&W cause my
dress was such a pretty pink.

Hi, Everyone,
On our first Anniversary Gene and  I thought it appropriate to thank all of you for joining the group and for all your generous contributions to our endeavours on and off site.
When we started the group we wanted to make it a fun friendly place to visit, In some small way at least, a little like the old General Store on Cartoon Corners.
What truly amazes me  when I view the site is that a little over a year ago the site did not exist. There really wasn't anywhere to go to find out much about Gene or the show, TV party ( A Thanks to them here for their enormous help) was about it. We had no real place to connect and share memories of Gene and the show. it's interesting really, I would have thought before I began that there would be half a dozen sites dedicated to Gene or the show or something, but alas there was none. So Gene and I began to discuss the possibility of a web site or something and I knew we could get started very quickly with a "News Group" and make changes and tweak it as need be, I knew it would be easier to maintain and has much of the same functionality without fees and such. So Gene suggested I go ahead with his blessing and here we are a year later.
Before I forget,  I would like to thank Gene Crane and Wright King for their time and recollections as well as Gerry Wilkinson of the Broadcast pioneers and Philly.org for their cooperation and help, especially all the photo's and information. A special thanks to Diane Browne-Sterdt, Gene's Niece" for her memories, stories  and much appreciated support and encouragement.
Remember this site is here for Gene and it's here for all of us too, because we have never forgotten Gene and believe you me, he's never forgotten us.
Gene just loves the pictures and stories and thanks to Adrian posting "A Walking talking Christmas Tree"  and all of our positive reaction to it, Gene realizes the version that came out (and was a minor  hit in Australia, of all places) "was not" the cowboy version he refused to listen to all these years.
I know I've got a lot of work  ahead of me this year to make this the site, "Gene" and "we" really deserve, but with Gene's involvement and all of your help  how can we fail!. Thank you all again for joining, suggesting, posting, all the great Ideas, memories/facts and photo's, we appreciate it all.
                                             Take Care, John

I can not believe it has been only one year for this great group with
Gene London!
I am living in Ohio and it was a funny thing learning that Gene's
origins were in Ohio. It was a little thing that helped me with the
relocation. Gene has been gracious and emailed which helped me feel
connected with a beloved friend.
I was wondering, is there any sheet music for the piano for the theme
song from Cartoon Corners. I just had my piano tuned and I'd love to
be able to play the song, too. Its a song memory that brings joy.
Happy Day everyone and stay warm!

I'm glad everyone has enjoyed the site, it's been a great honor
and a labor of love doing this, I asked Gene of all the people you
know why did you ask me? (ecstatic and thrilled while asking, without
a doubt) and he said in typical Gene Style, I just know your the
right person to do it. WOW! what a compliment! I only hope I've been
able to, in some small way, live up to that.
You know this site belongs to Gene and all of us, I'm glad we all
have somewhere to share and reminisce. I feel like I'm among friends
here, all of us waiting in the audience quietly or not so quietly
(you know how kids can get)for Cartoon Corners to come on so we can
see what Gene has in store for us this week.
I hope this has been a fun friendly place where everyone feels
welcome. A safe place to remember and be together.
Thanks again for a wonderful year, A super extra special Thanks to
Gene for Being Gene and touching our lives in such a positive way. I
know I didn't have to say that, I'm verbalizing the obvious, but I
just had to. Really sincerely thanks to each and eveyone of "you"

made so many new friends. Take care all, John

hello all!

i am new to the group - and grew up a fan of Gene London!

born in '61 i guess i started watching around '65 or '66 - i always thought that Captain Noah and Pixanne and Sally Star were frauds compared to Gene!  the only one that came close to Gene was Wee Willie Webber - and that was only because i liked the cartoons that he showed not because of anything that he did!  LOL  but after growing beyond Gene and Wee Willie on TV my parents listened to WIP in the car and it was a nice transition hearing Wee Willie on the radio when i was older!

I loved Cartton Corners - if i remember correctly on Saturdays was the show with the General Store stroylines?

As silly as this may sound I belive our children need his talents of
imagination and story telling his warm heart and soothing smile, I
belive if this generation had him we wouldn't have the trouble we have
today with our kids. I hope he would consider a comeback.

just think - when we were growing up in the '60's and '70's there were many TV shows for kids to watch on primetime TV - what shows are there today for young kids to watch?

i have a 7 (almost 8) year old son - there isn't anything on TV that i will let him watch during primetime.

It is a whole new digital world out there today. Just think. We
didn't have much of a choice. Luck for us that Gene London was a
solid and good choice. How many channels and options did we have?
In the Phili area, we had basically 3 channels until UHF came in with
that little box on top of the TV. Then cable and satalite TV
struck. The only choice we had was Gene London and guess what? That
was the right option! It worked. Remember when we came in to school
we would all talk about the same TV shows, because with so little
choice, almost all of us would watch the same thing. What Gene
London offered was quality, imagination, and morality. How many
members here watched the TV show The Wonder Years from 1988 to 1993?
The Wonder Years spoke to me, because I grew up in the wonder years.

of the late 60's early 70's. Dark Shadows, 12-15cent comic books. Wee
willie Webber in the Afternoons, Sally star in the morning, Gene and
Dr. shock on the weekends. It's interesting that we had all these
people on different networks and they never put them in direct
competition with each other. Imagine that? You know they all got good
ratings, so wasn't it nice to be able to enjoy all these programs,
with out all the one up man ship .I got started early watching Gene
London, my earliest memories are from about 68, really though
probably from birth, I have older brothers and sisters and they were
in charge of the TV, hey and I gotta admit, they chose wisely (As you
say, though, there weren't a lot of choices, anyway).
We do need Gene London! The old show definitely!I would also like to
see a new show of some sort, too. He's contemplating a reunion one
shot, nothing in stone, but I'm urging. No, it's not silly, in these
troubled times the children need Gene London, they never stopped
needing "Gene London",the adults may need "Gene London" even more, if
for no other reason to remind us of what's important, each other.
On a sad note not sure if any of you are already aware of this or
not, but Barbara Meyer who played "Mam" (Mrs. Dibley) passed away a
couple years ago, I was reminded of it when it came up in recent
conversation with Gene about who Might be in the reunion.
When I can get some photo's of her, I'll post them in tribute.
Judy Bell, (Debbie dibley according to Gene, still looks fantastic
and is teaching in Chicago. I'll See what I can do about an
interview.
We thought it might be a nice idea to get, other local celebrities
thoughts on Gene, Gene Cranes interview for new members is among the
postings, I'll start a separate file for these, if and when I can get
the celebs replies. The Broadcast Pioneers have no contact info for
the family of Dr. Shock, it would be nice to have Doreen's (Bubbles)
thoughts on Gene's show as you know she must have watched it, it
would give us a very unique perspective. As well as being able to
tell her how much we liked her dad's show too. If any one has this
info we'd appreciate it if you'd pass it along. Take care all, John
