Gene  opened the general store with the theme song..A box  of confetti  landed on his his head, the phone rang,., it was Mr.Dibley.. and he was angry  at Gene for eating the inventory,,,,Gene explains that he didn't,  "Oh yes, yes, you did, Dibley screams!
look under the counter at all the opened caned goods and cereal boxes,,If it wasn't you than who?.., find out  fast..,otherwise  I'll call the police. I bet the kids did it.... find out just whose been eating my profits, otherwise I''ll fire you and find someone who knows how to handle a robber,, you rubber brained nincompoop!.  Sir, I am Not A RUBBERBRAINED NINCOMPOOP!
Mr Dibley hangs up,,, come on kids, Gene asks the kids, look around and see if you find any opened cans or cereal boxes. The kids look and find,,and the pile grows larger,,the phone rings again,
Did you catch them yet, No sir, says Gene.. but we found more opened cans and stuff,,and the cans smell like they've just been opened.. What? Yes sir I'll have a look round, bye sir.
Kids, the robber may still be in the store
maybe hiding..kids all scream!
Shh.. they'll hear you..I think we better get outta here!
kid's reply; But you told Mr/ dibley you were going to search for him..
That's just what I thought I'd do,,search outside,,
wait.. be still.. do you hear something,?
'sounds like an animal..
animals can't open tin cans,,
Where's it coming from..the basement,,
a wild beast is sleeping in my bed down there.
look.. footprints..  muddy footprints.. leading to the storage closet,.. you kids find places to hide..

gimme your baseball bat..( Gene crosses to storeroom door,, he opens it

sound effect..wild gorillas sounds.. camera zooms into Genes startled face..he can't believe his eyes
( Fade to black for commercial break)

of course an ape is sleeping under  an old blanket..another stinger as Gene pulls of the blanket..the kids and Gene run out the store screaming.

he runs  up the porch stairs to Mrs. dibleymam's kitchen door. he knocks and calls her.
A gloved hand reaches and shakes his shoulder.. Gene is so startled . he shrieks!.. and turns expecting it to be who ever  was sleeping in the store room..

Hi,

First I want to thank the Owner of the list for allowing me to join. Second, I
enjoy reading the posts to see how active Gene is.

My name is Debbie and I'm 58 yrs old. I grew up watching Cartoon Corners General
Store and later the Gene London Show. My Brownie Troop took us all on an outting
for a taping of Cartoon Corners General Store. All I remember was how fun it was
to be there. We even got to sit at Gene's feet for story time.

I had begun to wonder what had become of Gene London and I came upon all sorts
of information and this wonderful Yahoo Group.

Thanks again for allowing me to be a member,

Debbie

Oh my! I'm going to go and do that right now! All of this is bringing back so many wonderful memories from my childhood. I used to catch Gene's show before I went to school in the mornings. Gosh, I realized I watched the Gene London show all through High School, too! It was always so interesting.

Welcome Debbie. I too am 58 and so we were there from the beginning and know how magical this time was for us. It was the next best thing to having Walt Disney in our own back yard.

I just remember tuning it to watch him everyday. I remember Gene teaching me all about the film Fiddler on the Roof when it came out. And I also recall when The Sound of Music came out, how Gene devoted a show to this classic film. From the 2nd grade on, I believe, I rarely missed a Gene London program. Sadly, there are no shows for kids on TV like this for kids today. I even wonder if the children have the attention spans we had back in the day? It's all silly cartoons and video games these days.

Thank you so much for posting these. As a new-bee and latecomer to this fashion world of Gene London, I was totally impressed. His collection is beautiful. And to see pictures the actresses who wore those dresses makes the collection all the more wonderful. And, I doubt if I'd recognize Gene on the street today if I walked past him.

Imagine being able to see up close the wonderful dresses, worn by divas of
cinema history? So come Iguatemi and prestige exhibition sponsored by the TCM
channel, "From Hollywood to Fashion."

For this show, the channel invited Gene London, cinephile, designer and
collector, who donated some super rare items, like the dress worn with the dress
pattern of cherries originally used by Marilyn Monroe in "The Misfits".

The exhibition also features replicas of dresses worn by Vivien Leigh in "Gone
With the Wind" by Rita Hayworth in "Gilda," by Audrey Hepburn in "Cinderella in
Paris," by Grace Kelly in "To Catch a Thief" and Marilyn Monroe in "The Seven
Year Itch" (in the classic scene from the vent).

The exhibition "From Hollywood to Fashion" goes until August 30 at the Fashion
Space Mall, located on the top floor. See below who was in the cocktail of
release!

From the Newsroom

Show, on display until Aug. 30, is the model used by Marilyn Monroe on film

Hollywood for Fashion, an exhibition which brings six dresses divas of the
cinema (one original and five replicas) as Marilyn Monroe, arrives in Sao Paulo
this August. The event is the result of a partnership between the pay channel
TCM and Gene London designer and collector.

The show was mounted in Iguatemi and will be held between the second, 16th and
30th of this month. London holds a collection of 60,000 pieces and lent the
original white dress with cherries printed worn by Marilyn Monroe in The Misfits
(1961).

The other outfits are also replicas borrowed from Gene to the London event. The
classic white Monroe in The Seven Year Itch (1955), long burgundy velvet worn by
Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind ... (1939) are examples. The exhibition has
free admission.

Note on the agenda: the channel TCM (he of old movies), will bring the day
August 16 an exhibition very good for us who love fashion.

The movie buff, collector and designer Gene London has released its collection
of original costume designs for this exhibition entitled "From Hollywood to
Fashion," including clothing originally used by stars like Marilyn Monroe, Grace
Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Rita Hayworth , Bette Davis, Ingrid
Bergman, Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn, Judy Garland, among other a huge
list, including male names like Marlon Brando and Humphrey Boagart. Have you
ever thought - that much! - Be able to check closely the looks gorgeous movies
like The Misfits, Gilda, Gone With the Wind, Cinderella in Paris: ...

Besides this wonderful meeting of costumes, the channel will have a special
program in September, with several films related to exposure:

Programming on TCM in September - every Wednesday and Sunday at 22pm, from

It's super important that we also have eyes for the costumes, as well as
inspire, they mark a time and give luster to the characters. A tasty way to
study fashion and can see the charm and close the structure of tissues, beyond
the history that each piece carries. Who go there, tell me. Ah, detail: it's
free!
