TRIO'S GAY REPUBLICANS DOC WINS AFI FEST 2004 AUDIENCE AWARD

New York, November 29, 2004 TRIO was honored at the American Film
Institute's AFI Fest 2004, in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 13,
with the "Audience Award" in the category of Best Documentary Film for
its original film Gay Republicans.

Gay Republicans, produced by TRIO and World of Wonder, premiered on
the channel earlier this month on election night (Nov. 2). The
documentary examines the struggles and contradictions (during the 2004
election year) of the group known as the Log Cabin Republicans. Many
Gay Republicans favor their party's stance on issues such as the
economy and national defense, but are at odds with the Christian right
and President George W. Bush's support of the Federal Marriage
Amendment (which bans gay marriage).

The one-hour film features interviews with Log Cabin Republicans
including: Steve May, a life-long Republican and former Arizona State
Senator who feels the party has been taken over by the religious right
and has determined to campaign against George W Bush; Maurice
Bonamigo, a suave, ultra-conservative hairdresser who heads the Palm
Beach Log Cabin -- the most conservative chapter in the country. Carol
Newman, a trial lawyer, who married her Democrat girlfriend this year
in Massachusetts, and recently attended the Republican National
Convention. Mark Harris, an outspoken, staunch gay Republican who
feels that the gay community is prone to a "victim mentality."

The documentary was produced by the award-winning production company,
World of Wonder with Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato serving as
executive producers. Wash Westmoreland is the writer/director. Anne
Clements is the producer. Andrew Cohen is the executive producer for
TRIO. Samuel J. Paul is supervising producer for TRIO.

Now in its 18th year, AFI FEST presented by Audi—the AFI Los Angelees
International Film
Festival—is the longest-running film festival in Los Angeles and onne
of the most influential and fastest growing film festivals in North
America. A program of the American Film Institute, AFI
FEST spans 10 days each November, featuring international competitions
of new feature films,
documentaries and shorts from emerging filmmakers, global showcases of
the latest work from
the great film masters and red-carpet gala premieres.

World of Wonder is an award-winning production company based in both
Los Angeles and London, and best known for award-winning films and
documentaries such as THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE, PARTY MONSTER (both
Sundance Film Festival favorites) and SHOWBIZ MOMS AND DADS on Bravo.
World of Wonder has produced and created numerous documentaries for
TRIO such as BRILLIANT BUT CANCELLED to TOP TEN MINISERIES. They have
just completed production on their latest project, INSIDE DEEP THROAT,
a feature documentary about the classic adult film, co-produced by
Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment. More information about World
of Wonder can be found on the WOW Report daily blog,

TV Barn's TV Picks for Friday through Sunday, November 26-28, 2004
by Tom Heald with Jon Delfin

....

In order to avoid the death penalty in the murder trial of Matthew Shepard,
defendant Aaron McKinney and his lawyers agreed to waive his rights to
speak with reporters about the case. It was not a court-ordered "gag," but
a voluntary decision made by McKinney offered a choice between two fates:
life in prison or the death chamber.

Tonight, Mr. McKinney violates that agreement with an interview given to
Elizabeth Vargas on ABC's "20/20" (10 p.m.). If you watch the report,
you'll hear him claim that killing Matthew Shepard was not a "hate crime."
You'll hear him state that not only was he high on meth, but hear McKinney
and other unnamed sources claim that Matthew Shepard was a meth user.

You won't hear from Matthew Shepard, who's not around to defend himself.
But you've heard from his family and friends before. Editor & Publisher
defended the public's right to know "the rest of this story." But they're
wrong, and so is ABC for this cheap, imbalanced ratings grab. It's not
news, and while the result of "six months of investigation," seems to be
devoid of research.

You won't hear that McKinney's story has changed multiple times, with
previous claims that he wasn't high on methamphetamines, but drunk when the
murder happened. You won't hear that McKinney tried to use the fact that
Shepard was gay to use the "homosexual panic" defense to claim that it was
"okay," if not self-defense, to kill him. You won't see the hideous grammar
in the letter McKinney wrote from prison, stating that his victim "said he
was gay and wanted a piece of me. Being a verry drunk homofobick. I flipped
out and began to pistol whip the fag with my gun." You won't hear that had
they been high on meth, neither McKinney nor partner in crime Russell
Henderson would have been in a state to carry out their premeditated
plotting against Shepard to rob him for drug money.

Aaron McKinney doesn't have much to lose at this point, but everything to
gain in becoming a martyr to some, persecuted for "the wrong motive."

You will hear a fantastic story from a convicted drug-abusing liar, thief,
kidnapper, drunk and murderer -- a man with most of the civilized world
against him. A story he's certainly had years to create. Why violate his
agreements not to exploit his crimes for publicity, fame, and the chance to
rewrite history and in doing so torture Matthew Shepard's family and
friends all over again? Should the courts reconsider his sentence in light
of this exploitative, egomaniacal power play on "20/20"?

here! TV PRESENTS "Here To Remember"

CELEBRITIES HONOR THOSE THEY'VE LOST TO AIDS --  FEATURING STORIES FROM SAM HARRIS, JULIE BROWN, MINK STOLE, LARRAINE NEWMAN & LESLIE JORDAN

here! TV, the nation's first gay and lesbian premium cable channel, is proud to present Here To Remember, a very special original program to commemorate the friends and family members lost to AIDS.  Here To Remember's premiere on here! TV is scheduled to coincide with World AIDS Day on December 1st and will continue to air throughout the month.

This humorous and heart-warming program, hosted by Leslie Jordan ("Will & Grace," Sordid Lives), is a series of personal accounts from celebrities such as Sam Harris, Larraine Newman ("Saturday Night Live"), Julie Brown (MTV) and Mink Stole (Pink Flamingos, Hairspray).  Each star recounts a personal tale of someone close to them who has been lost to this ongoing pandemic.  Each anecdote, set against a simple, yet affecting all-white backdrop, is told with straightforward sincerity and humor which provides an emotional yet uplifting glimpse into the lives of those affected by the devastating loss from AIDS. Here To Remember celebrates people's lives and, in addition, serves as a gentle reminder that AIDS is still very much a part of all of our lives.

Add Sarah McLaughlin to the list of esteemed stars that have graciously donated their services.  Her stirring rendition of "I Will Remember You" will serve as the theme song for Here to Remember.

After Here to Remember completes its broadcast run on here! TV, the special will be broken down into smaller segments to be used as Public Service Announcements in order to draw continued awareness to the AIDS crisis.

Paul Colichman, CEO of here! TV says, "We are so proud to have produced Here To Remember as a celebration of those lives that have been taken from us by the AIDS epidemic.  AIDS is not only an issue that we look back on, but a problem that deserves continued focus as this disease continues to ravage communities across the globe."

Rick Scott, President of Autonomy TV and Producer of Here to Remember adds, ""When we sat down to develop the concept, we wanted to have a strong emotional response from the viewers.  We felt that a half hour of mourning and sadness was the expected approach, and might be to morbid to make a compelling half hour of television, so we went at it from the opposite direction.  We choose to celebrate the lives of those lost with humor and affection.  The emotional impact was even stronger and made for a much more compelling, entertaining and impactful television program that resonates even deeper with our viewers."

here! TV, America's first gay television network, was established in 2002 by Regent Entertainment co-founders Paul Colichman and Stephen P. Jarchow. here! TV, currently available in more than 30 million households, offers a wide variety of high quality movies, original series and general entertainment programming targeted to a broad-based gay and lesbian audience.  here! The movie Alexander is already raising an eyebrow or two and well before its November 24 release.  Several lawyers from Greece have banded together to threaten the Warner Bros film studio and Oliver Stone with a law suit for depicting the warrior as a bisexual.  In the extra judicial note, the group asked the film makers to state in the title credits that the premise for the hero's sexuality was based on fiction rather than fact.  Many historians today believe that Alexander was either bi or gay, but many Greeks within Greece insist that their national hero was straight.  Neither Warner Bros nor Oliver Stone have replied publicly to the allegations as yet.

American Experience Announces New Documentary on Alfred Kinsey

TPT (Twin Cities Public Television), Ark Media co-production to air on PBS
in February 2005

"American Experience," PBS's acclaimed history series from
WGBH Boston, is completing filming for a 90-minute
documentary on the life and work of pioneering sex researcher
Dr. Alfred C. Kinsey, widely considered one of the most
influential scientists of the 20th century. Scheduled for broadcast in
February 2005, "Kinsey" is produced and directed by Barak Goodman and
John Maggio. Goodman's previous credits for "American Experience"
include the Oscar-nominated "Scottsboro: An American Tragedy" and "The
Fight," produced and directed with Maggio.

The "American Experience" project, which has been in the works
since 2002, is the first American television documentary to be granted
full access to the extensive collection of research materials at the
Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, bringing to the public a
wealth of never-before-seen archival material. Goodman and Maggio
interviewed Kinsey biographers James H. Jones and Jonathan
Gathorne-Hardy; Dr. John Bancroft, former director of Kinsey
Institute; Kinsey's daughters, Ann Kinsey Call and Joan Kinsey Reid;
T. C. Boyle, author of "The Inner Circle," a new novel based on
Kinsey's life; Paul Gebhard and Clyde Martin, members of Kinsey's
original research team, as well as several people who participated in
the interviews in the 1940s and 1950s.

Few scientists before or after Kinsey have so galvanized the
American public on issues related to sexuality. "Kinsey's pioneering
research of the sexual habits of American men and women in the 1940s
and '50s helped initiate a debate about sexual behavior that opened
the door to more tolerant views and major shifts in American attitudes
about sex," said Mark Samels, executive
producer of "American Experience."

"Despite his enormous influence on American culture, Kinsey's
story is not widely known today and has never been the subject of an
in-depth television documentary," said Catherine Allan, executive
producer for TPT. " We believe this film will build public awareness
and understanding of Kinsey's landmark contributions and lasting
legacy."

"Kinsey" is a production of TPT, Twin Cities Public Television and
Ark Media for American Experience. Executive producers are Catherine
Allan, TPT, and Steve Krahnke, WTIU. "American Experience" is produced
for PBS by WGBH Boston. Mark Samels is the series executive producer.

Funding for "Kinsey" is provided by Hugh M. Hefner and the Maurice
Falk Medical Fund. Major funding for "American Experience" is provided
by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Corporate funding is provided by
Liberty Mutual and The Scotts Company. Additional funding provided by
the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and public television viewers.

ABC and 20/20 will be looking to raise some question marks and eyebrows with an investigative report purportedly planned to air on November 26.  The segment will look into whether Matthew Shepard was actually murdered as a result of a robbery or suffered by being a hate crime victim in the town of Laramie, Wyoming.  Both Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney are in jail serving double life sentences for a murder they originally said was motivated by Matthew's sexual preference.  However, the story has changed and the ABC program now reports "surprising revelations, including Laramie's underground world of methamphetamine use that may have contributed to the crime and whether or not Shepard knew his killers."

·20/20; Series Talk, Newsmagazine, CC Repeat. - Investigative reporting. Friday, November 19, 2004 9:00 PM CST for 1 hour 00 minutes on WABC [245-WABC].

Thanks for that report!  I've added Camp (2003) to the gay shows
database.

As far as Thursday's shows... Gay-TV-Today only gives information
on shows that will be on in the next 48 hours.  On Wednesday you should see
a listing for the broadcast of Mambo Italiano you mentioned.

If you want to get a weeks worth of listings at one time (actually
13 days), there is another Yahoo Group called Replay-TV-Sharing that you
will want to check out.  The listings there are updated every Sunday.

A new film, Kinsey (Fox Searchlight), is raising some conservative eyebrows.  Set to release in New York and LA today, the movie explores the life of bisexual researcher and professor Alfred Kinsey with Liam Neeson in the star role, and co-starring Laura Linney.  Conservative groups such as Generation Life and Concerned Women of America's Culture & Family Institute object to and are planning to protest the movie for its supposed “sugar-coated” portrayal of the researcher many “blame” for rousing the sexual revolution.

A Focus on the Family review by Tom Neven stated that “to say that it is rank propaganda for the sexual revolution and the homosexual agenda would be beyond stating the obvious”.  The film's writer/director, Bill Condon, responded in an interview that “their real aim, by maligning him and destroying his reputation, is to pretend that the last 50 years didn't happen. Kinsey affected everybody's life, and I hope the film gets a little breathing room for people to see it and think about it for themselves.''  On the flip side, Richard Roeper of Ebert & Roeper said this film was an "instant Oscar contender."  The movie will go wide in upcoming weeks.

This is data from my personal search database. Here is the latest list of television shows that my search software believes may have gay and/or lesbian themes, content, actors or directors. I'm pleased to share it with anyone who might find it useful.

REALITY CHECK: No automated software is perfect. Sometimes different shows have similar names. Some shows may be listed here that may have no gay/lesbian themes.

If you know of a show that should be on this list, please email as much information about it that you know to mailto:gaytv@... so that search parameters can be added to the database to find that show.

My software is smart enough to know if it is currently daylight savings time or not and calculate the offset to give correct times for the television shows.  But the offset is calculated AT THE TIME THE DATA IS RUN.

This means that shows which are not in the current daylight savings time offset will not show correct starting times.  They will be off plus or minus one hour depending on the time of the year.  Shows that are after the time change will be off until the time change occurs, after which they will all be correct again.

I suppose it might be possible for me to calculate correct time offsets for every show at every hour, but it would unduly burdon the search software and cause the searches to run slower all year long.  I think that for now it is better to just put up with some shows being an hour off, than it would be to slow down the searches all the time.

here! TV Premieres "Too Cool For Christmas" in Los Angeles to Benefit Cable Positive

First here! TV Original Production to Help in Fight Against HIV/AIDS

STARS GEORGE HAMILTON, BROOKE NEVIN & DONNA MILLS TO APPEAR

LOS ANGELES, CA - here! TV, the nation's first premium programming service appealing to gay and lesbian audiences, announced today it would premiere its original gay-themed family holiday special Too Cool For Christmas as a special screening to benefit Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications national non-profit AIDS action organization. Topline cast members George Hamilton (Love at First Bite, The Godfather: Part III), Donna Mills (Knot's Landing)and Brooke Nevin (The 4400), will be present at the premiere, as will writer Michael Gelbart and other cast members.

A heartwarming family comedy, Too Cool For Christmas is the story of sixteen-year-old Lindsay (Nevin), who would rather go to a ski resort with her friends (and that really cute guy from school) than be with her two dads (Adam Harrington and Barclay Hope) and little sister (Jodelle Ferland). But a trip to the mall and an encounter with a Santa Claus who needs a makeover (Hamilton) imparts to her the meaning of family, generosity and the true spirit of Christmas.

The screening will take place on Monday, November 15th at 8:00 PM at the Regent Showcase Theater located at 614 North LaBrea Avenue in Los Angeles. The event is free to the public, but reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling a special RSVP line, 310-806-4260. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Gay and lesbian families with children are particularly encouraged to attend, although everyone is welcome.

here! TV will donate proceeds from all concession sales - which includes the standard fare as well as some special holiday treats - to Cable Positive. Attendees are also encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for donation to the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation (www.caaf4kids.org), a non-profit foundation whose mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of children infected with HIV and affected by AIDS by helping meet their special needs, advocating and educating on their behalf and bringing joy and fun into their lives. Additionally, the first 250 registered guests to arrive at the screening will receive an "Extreme Holiday Makeover" gift bag compliments of B. Kamins Chemist.

Firestone Communications, Inc. (FCI) and Q Television Network (Q TV) inked a long-term network origination and production deal that will beam Q TV through FCI's link up to the Intelsat America 7 satellite.  In addition, FCI will create several programs and live broadcasts for the network including a 3-hour live nighttime weekday programming block with talk, news and sports shows, a biography series and more.   FCI will handle branding for Q TV as well.  As a result of the scope of services it will provide to Q TV, FCI will be hiring additional production personnel.

Europe's first gay channel, Pink TV, saw the light of broadcasting with its launch earlier this week.  The gay and gay-friendly-oriented television channel will air soap operas, discussion shows and magazine programs (and porn after midnight 4 days a week) with several famous presenters involved in the different shows.  Pink TV will be available on France's Canal Satellite and TPS (DTH platforms), most of the main cable networks and Canal Satellite DSL, TPS-L and Free (ADSL services).  The gay channel is looking to find 180,000 subscribers.

ESPN's controversial drama, Playmakers, a GLAAD nominee for the Outstanding Drama Series award category, made its way to DVD after the show was not renewed for another season.  Critics of the show created such a ruckus that ESPN cancelled the second season despite Playmakers' approval rating for fear of losing NFL game rights.  The show centered on several story lines centering on NFL team life. Personal character stories, a gay NFL player's decision to come out and behind-the-scenes scripted drama were included in the show's themes.
