Yeah, I'm familiar with the reasons why Lassie is a he, just don't
understand why people *still* comment on it as being disappointing or
something, so what? He's gorgeous!

No one ever made a fuss about Benji (not the original) being a girl,
either.

you know, i think Lassie should have
a photo opportunity and show right
here in 29 Palms, CA. after all, this
town is the home of the largest Marine
Corp Training Base! yeh, i think Lassie
should come here to entertain the troups
and for all; the military,
and the citizens. JMHO of course.
{mel is practicing whisper to
have his pic with Lassie) ;)

Hi Lanny,
1954, The Contest. Girl's parents divorced & dad left her at the farm while we went on "business". She was mean, destructive kid. The Contest was a dog contest for the neighboring area.
Marcy
Does anybody know what episode that had Jeff down at the lake swimming when a girl comes to visit. i`m thinking it is during the 1st season -- Lanny
"And, for years, a dog breeder on Castro Valley Boulevard displayed a framed
certificate from movie studio MGM stating the original Lassie collie - a
male named Pal, although the canine character always was female - came from
his kennel.
Some of these facts - and lots more - are included in Images of America:
Castro Valley, an evocative and folksy book of pictures, maps, and
interviews."

Lassie (2005)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0431213/
is now in post-production. Any more news on it, Joan? When will it be
released in the UK and other parts of the world? It doesn't say "Joe" in the
cast list, perhaps they changed the names a lot.
"Odyssey Entertainment will handle the worldwide distribution rights for
Lassie."
One site says the U.S. release is estimated in 2005, but TBA.

Odyssey collars cast for Sturridge's 'Lassie'
" Samantha Morton, Peter Dinklage and Peter O'Toole are set to star in
Charles Sturridge's "Lassie," which starts shooting May 23 in Ireland.
Odyssey Entertainment is handling worldwide sales for the project, which is
based on Eric Knight's 1938 novel about a trusty pooch, "Lassie Come Home."
Set in Britain shortly before WWII, it's the story of a dog sold by her
poverty-stricken owners to a duke who lives 500 miles away. Ed Guiney of
Dublin-based Element Films is producing with Sturridge and Francesca Barra,
in conjunction with Classic Media and Isle of Man Film. Samuel and Victor
Hadida are co-producing through their Davis Films and will release the pic
in France. Pic has been pre-sold to Entertainment in the U.K., Shockiku in
Japan, Applause in Taiwan, and distribs in a slew of smaller territories."

Does anyone know exactly where the shows with Timmy and Jeff were
filmed? I have a feeling the shows with the rangers were filmed in
Angeles National Forest. I remember they did a show where Ruth was a
lookout for forest fires in a show shortly before the big change over.
Wonder where that show was filmed?
Carl
Fire lookouts.
I remember seeing Lassie and Robert Bray at fire lookouts in Lassie and was
always fascinated by them. As far as I know the forest ranger era episodes
were filmed all over the place. Linda and the others will probably give a
better idea of where the off-set locations for Timmy and Jeff were filmed.
It was discussed ages ago but I can't remember! Some of the places are now
built up with houses etc. Most of the inside building shots were probably
done at a studio.
Great site on fire lookouts.

"On an early 1960's episode of Timmy and Lassie, his mother, played by June
Lockhart, temporarily staffed a steel 7x7 lookout called the Calverton
Tower. Shows a couple of shots of the tower. The Forest Ranger was Cory
Stewart (Robert Bray), who played on the next generation Lassie episodes
where there were yet more tower episodes that I can remember."

I've no idea if there are any photos of that.

"Chuck Williams, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Forest Service History.
Chuck Williams has a personal connection to two of the Forest Service's most
recognizable icons. From 1968 to 1970, Williams served as technical advisor
to the television show, Lassie. Whenever Forest Service rangers and Lassie
were filmed, the show's producers relied on Williams to help shape dialogue
and plot. Williams later created a public service spot, "Give a Hoot, Don't
Pollute," that introduced Woodsy Owl, who has since become America's
official environmental icon."

"Make no mistake, The Greatest Good is about the Forest Service as an
institution; the national forests provide only the scenic backdrop to this
nostalgic romp through the agency's highs and lows. Although founder Gifford
Pinchot gets star billing, Lassie steals the show by growling at a local
rancher when he protests Forest Service clear-cutting practices."

That PDF file is two pages, from Classic Media, with a colour photo on the
first page of Howard (Lassie 8) and black and white photos on both pages,
plus the timeline.
It happens to include the most recent film (begins production in the UK) so
must be from earlier this year. The only pic I haven't seen before is that
of Lassie peering out of the car.

Well that's the clearest photo I've seen yet of one of the Lassies in
the new film, not a line dog. They seem to have underestimated the
number of films made in that article. *cough* original black and
white?! Sheesh. Didn't that newspaper writer ever see Lassie Come
Home?! It's in colour. They don't even mention that the 3 dogs aren't
line / ancestral dogs from the original Pal. "One of the dogs is even
given make-up so that it looks just right. Well, it is a lead role." I
wonder if that dog in the main picture has make up on its face. The
coat looks very coarse. Anyway interesting to see a UK newspaper
article about the next movie.
